Due to the fact you have 10 interchanges coping with 12 players on the field in this day and age is pretty manageable

I respectfully disagree with that. It is much more of a punishment in today's game than ever before. Look at teams that lose a player from their forward rotation early with injury. Down to three on the bench and they struggle at the back end. That effect is multiplied if they are down a man on the field also.

The send off is immediate punishment enough. The suspension that follows is another story.

But as I said Glen the team that has lost the guy through injury that can't take advantage of it so it is nullified

The point I am trying to make is that this

These punishmenst for the big games aren't good enough with the current playing conditions

I'll give you an example

Tigers v Manly GF

Glen Stewart cocks an elbow early in the game and breaks either Robbie Farah or Benji Marshall jaw

Stewart gets sent off

Due to the fact you have 10 interchanges coping with 12 players on the field in this day and age is pretty manageable

Us losing Robbie or Benji is absolutely devastating as the players that can take advantage of the extra player are gone

Do you see my point . We need to come up with a more brutal on field punishment for the team that commits the offence

I agree, and this is only a suggestion:

take away any points they have scored during the game.

so if at time of offence score is 18-16, your way, a player from your team is sent off , the score automatically become 16-0 in favour of opposition.
if your team who score is now nil, does win the game they do not get the two competition points, also for their points for/against, they get nothing for and double amount against.

may look harsh and bit over the top, but as soon as it happens once, be suprised if it happens again.

So Prior gets sent off in the 55th minute and the Dragons just head straight to the airport for the early flight home? Why stay of you can't get the 2 points?

Referees are already sh.t scared of sending a bloke off incase they have pulled the trigger too soon because they know it will have a massive impact on the outcome of the game. That's why they prefer to put the player on report. If the punishment was harsher (which you haven't explained your suggestion yet) I can't see it ever being used.

if they wish to walk off the field, then its their decision.
would not be suprised if NRL hierachy imposed fines or more for this action.

why should 25 min be a problem.
would you as a fan be happy if your team walked off the field?
it would show that when you are up against a hard situation, you simply give in.

we both have our opinions on this and may have to agree to disagree.

It's okay to have these harsh sanctions on something clear cut like this but there's been some pretty poor send off decision. Jason Ryles comes to mind… Adrian Morley too.

Losing a player is a massive issue for a team. Saints had virtually no chance of winning once they were down to 12 v 13\. For me it's enough of a punishment. In the above scenario playing 70 minutes with 12 players would be a massive problem and besides anything that looked deliberate would attract a Les Boyd suspension. Who in the modern game is really going to do that?

Because they have been told they can't win and will not receive premiership points no matter what happens.

I would be absolutely livid if they stayed on the field for no reason and one or more of our players were injured and missed future games.

There is a differnece between hard and impossible. To fight on in a tough situation and win is the sweetest victory. To push the proverbial up hill when there is no chance of reward at all is just stupid.

The Saints had virtually no chance of winning anyway

Watch the above replay again Yoss He doesn't cock the elbow until AFTER JT passes

Mate it is deliberate Saying sorry to someone doesn't make it OK or not deliberate

Personally I think he was trying to put a shot on JT and got it horribly wrong. I'm pretty convinced Prior wasn't thinking "I'm going to elbow the little mongrel in the head here". Sure it was late but hits on playmakers often are.

My memory of the game is the Saints were every chance of winning to that point. I'd tipped the Cows and was still a bit worried at that stage. Prior getting sent off reduced that possibility even more.

How many times have you seen a player put on report & he should of been sent off, he then gets suspended & the team he played against & did the illegal hit receives no advantage. Example Ben Teo against the Tigers when he hit Groat high with a shoulder charge that went wrong & we were down a player.

Why am I the Rat? You were the lazy Fullback who never wanted to get his jersey dirty. If this was a Blackbird Thread, I'd understand being called the rat…
