PENRITH PANTHERS
Dallin Watene-Zelenziak has been granted an immediate release from the Penrith Panthers, with the outside back expected to join Wests Tigers.

The versatile 23-year-old outside back has not played for the Panthers in any grade after he was axed from the NRL side in round 11.

Penrith allowed Watene-Zelezniak to negotiate with rival teams after he made it known he wanted out of Penrith.

After shooting through the junior ranks at the club, featuring in the 2013 NYC (under 20s) premiership, Watene-Zelezniak played 106 NRL matches for the Panthers.

"As a local junior and a product of the Panthers development system, Dallin has given our club great service," Penrith CEO Brian Fletcher said.

"While we're obviously disappointed to release him, we do so knowing it is in the best interests of both parties.

"We extend our sincere thanks to Dallin for his contribution at Panthers and wish him the best of luck for the future."

Watene-Zelezniak is widely tipped to sign with the Tigers, where he would play under his New Zealand coach Michael Maguire.

However, the incumbent Kiwi skipper's anticipated arrival will place questions marks over the future of Tigers captain Moses Mbye, who holds the No.1 jersey that Watene-Zeleniak craves.

"Obviously they [the Tigers] are chasing Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, they're looking at him - Madge considers him a fullback," The Australian's Brent Read told Sporting News.

"What does that mean for Moses Mbye?

"There are just some real balls in the air at the moment and I think he's one of them."
