Mbye

Mbye made 20 tackles last night. That’s a big amount for a centre, and his contact was really good

A lot of talk about his defence. It’s good that he’s a great defender, but when you are talking about a centre, defence shouldn’t be the first aspect that comes to mind.

Decent player and even better bloke by all accounts.

A victim of his own versatility. Good Game last night but in truth he is just another "Ivan the Terrible" panic Buy .

You’re right but with a right hand side that’s rubbish in defence and great in attack it’s good that our left side can defend well

Mbye was there in support several times, he was cut out a few times. Both centres tried hard but didn't get the ball.
I don't think we want Mbye taking the first hit up of a set, he is fast and a ball player, not our most powerful or durable back.
His quick hands and good vision made the most of the opportunity for our 2nd try when he put Jennings over.
We need to work on finding ways to use his strengths and we to be effective in attack and defence on both sides of the field. It is good to see Madge trying things and he has much more information than us.

Good insightful comments mate

Agreed. Madge just finding a spot for him but so far centre seems best. Might actually finally become an asset with the change in speed and fatigue in the game. Have to give him this year to prove his worth until momo returns.

I still don’t get the purpose he serves as a player. He’s just....there. He”s not a strike centre. He’s there cos Madge has no other position for him. He’s the most confusing player i’ve ever come across. He’s a captain, playing out of position because there are better options in his preferred positions. There’s constant talk the club could be looking to offload him, yet he’s the only player in the club whose an incumbent Origin player. This isn’t meant to be a thread to bash him, I like him, he belongs somewhere, but where?

We were obviously targeting the Sharks RHS .....Mbye ran the ball with gusto and defended well ....***Douehi's two cut out passes when we go through the hands and score comfortably didn't help***

We should have had that game on ice within the 1st 25-30 minutes

I agree with this but there were also two times Brooks went short to Mbye where if he had cut him out we score.

I'd say defending at centre is one of the hardest as they dictate whether to slide or whether to come in.

his first contact and decision making is really good but definitely needs to add more in attack. having brooks and mbye on the same side doesn't help as they are very similar players. he could add as a wade graham type player though.

Mbye is good at left centre. He was signed as a fullback on huge money which is now a poor use of the cap. That’s not his fault but reality.

Mbye is a great centre and very happy that we don't have to worry about his sides defence. He is a smart player and the players respect him plus he can cover multi positions.. He is a Lock each week

Really don’t understand the dislike. Firstly he played injured for months. Secondly he is just coming back from injury. He is fast; he has good hands; he is a great defender; he is footy smart (otherwise he wouldn’t be captain); he is respected by Madge. As he gets more game time under his belt he will continue to improve. Great asset for us imo.

I'm liking him at centre tbh - very good defender indeed. Hasn't had too many chances in attack, but I think that part of his game is solid too.

I'd say his best spot is utility on the bench, but with Walters there he isn't needed. I don't see a long term position for him unfortunately. I like him as a human. He should play out the year in centre and try shop him for next year. When Momo returns I can't see Mbye being a better centre.

defensively brilliant, and if anything he's still coming back from injury and building his sharpness. that said, we played very narrow for 90% of the game and jammed through the middle corridor for most of it, hence why he didn't get the ball in his hands too often.

Mbye is awesome on defence. Every time Cronulla went down his edge there was NOTHING. In fact, I remember one time they went down there and it was 3 on 2 in our favour. Him and Brooks own that side. Can't say the same about Benji and BJ on the right.

This is our club captain we are talking about I think every 1 needs to get behind him he is always trying his hardest and makes the rite decision 99% of the time he is our only origin player hopefully he gets more games under his belt this year

He was okay this week, probably on the good side of average. Judging him solely on that game I have no issues. I’m optimistic he’ll turn in some good performances this year and based on yesterday could be our chief goal kicker.

Could be worse we could be paying Ben Hunt 1.2 mil and watch him limping around with a boil.
