Message From Benji

It's a nice video. I think respect of his decision should be granted from everyone.

Nice touch. I for one am grateful for the direct and honest feedback.

Can't believe some still want to see negatives in what is only a 100% positive move from Benji and those who facilitated the interview.

Good Stuff, Now on with the game.

The fact that he spoke from the heart and was tearing up showed how much this decision has hurt him and how much the club and the fans mean to him. Yes, he should have come out from day one or done something similar, maybe some on the forum would not have ripped into him as much if this were to be the case. Some may think of it as a dummy spit still, some may agree with him in that he knows the club is moving in a new direction and that he would be holding up the new generation of Tigers players (Brooks, Moses etc.)

He showed a great deal of humility and humbleness, something I believe his has shown in bundles throughout his time at the Tigers, throughout that, highlighting that the tigers is his only club and not playing for another and it was great for him to finally explain his decision to the Wests Tigers fans on the official website. Just hope this interview tonight does not ruin all this! He has been a great asset both on and off the field, given us some of the greatest memories I can remember as a Wests Tigers supporter and I think although he will be a major loss on and off the field due to his presence, I think Benji, the club, the fans and the players can move forward from this in a positive way for both this year and 2014, knowing that we have secured our young talent for another few years, as well as free up some much needed salary space for perhaps a signing or two later down the track. The situation is settled we can move on and hope Benji comes out for the next 8 rounds (and hopefully more) and show us why we loved him for 10 plus years and push up to another finals series, perhaps a top his year off with a grandfinal.

Carn the Tiges! :sign:

Haven't looked at it and don't think I need to.

I would assume that it is basically what has been said and displayed by him many times over the many years, things that should have been obvious to all. However, some people were blinded by the ego (which I think all at a similar level have, and need) and looked past the hard working, loyal person with a big heart, that he wasn't afraid to wear on his sleeve

its amazing what a simple interview does…. people crusify him based off what others say, then opinions change when he says it...

dont always beleive what u hear.... until u hear it first hand.

This has been my entire point for the past couple of days. I am glad those who thought otherwise have now accepted his version as he said it directly to us without any fanfare, press conferences or the like. He just sat down and explained himself and let his feelings out into the open. It was an emotional message and I do feel for him as he is hurting about all of this…it is plain to see. He took the time to tell the people who have supported him the most and embarked on this rollercoaster of a career with him...the Wests Tigers community what was going on.

It was a very classy move.

The so called supporters who have been slagging him off and putting him in a negative light with a bit of luck are chocking on their own bile.
Really sad to see such a great player struggle for form in recent times.
He now leaves the club in the same way he spent so much of his career at the tigers…......with loads of class.
We were lucky to have him........Thanks Benji

Thanks to Benji for taking the time to communicate in this fashion with Wests Tigers supporters, fans, members. A classy effort imo.

This post will probably divide opinions….

I will be honest, I am in no way burned that Marshall is leaving, I have thought for a while that he is past it, but am unhappy with the the way his camp have handled to situation to put it lightly.

Benji has long surrounded himself with sicophants. Im not having a go at him personally, everyone has a character flaw, and if his is that he is a bit of an egomaniac enjoying a bit of smoke blown up his backside, then so be it. That isnt the end of the world, and doesnt make him a bad human being. Benji had Sheens wrapped around his finger, Beau, Moltzen, Tauber seems wrapped around his... people too afraid to offend him. His game has suffered because of it, and now his profile.

His camp are well aware of his media swing, they have worked the angle for years, they know if they make a peep it will be printed. It hasnt been an accident that the negotiations have gone down the way they have, they created the media storm, and will most likely be using the ability to hit print as a selling point in his code switching contracts.

The video on the website was nice, and if his camp hadnt played the club against the media, it would have been a perfect way to sign off, it was honest and heartfelt, though at the end of a few turbulent weeks in the media, it also felt slightly like damage control.

I feel sad for the guy, but not sorry for him. It is sad that his ego has allowed him to run riot for so long that being pulled into line was taken as offensive, sad that this monster was nurtured so extremely that reality seems distorted to him... but i dont feel sorry for him if that makes sense.

Congrats to Benji for speaking so well and putting things into perspective in a way that seems to have calmed the debate at least.

He is owed the respect of a great player for the club we all love. We won't see his like again.

I really hope that everyone capable can pack Liechhardt tomorrow night and give him a big send off. He looks petrified that the crowd will boo him. That will be absolutely devastating.

Surely no-one will boo him. Not even opposition fans would do that.

He should get a long standing ovation when he runs out and also when the game ends.

Very good interview tonight. Very emotional. To borrow an acronym from another great club: YNWA

Think you are mostly right B&W. The thing that needs to be considered with Benji (and not necessarily as an excuse ) is that he never had a father and by luck or good fortune apparently has chosen Sheens and Tauber as substitutes. No what has been said about Sheens I believe he always had Benji's best interests at heart. In respect of Tauber, he directly earns income from Benji so there is definitely a big conflict of interest.

Listening to that interview has me thinking

I reckon the club has possibly dumped him

Especially once he started talking about Brooks and Moses , they aren't his responsibility

Benji , I have been on your case ,but best of luck in the future you have done many good things for our great club ,pity you couldn't turn your form around

It's what I've been thinking by reading in between the lines lately too mate.
Though I can't understand why they would. I don't think it would be an attitude or performance thing.

Also, enjoy my new Avatar…
