Meyer: cambo has once last chance

Traitors, fans with conditions on their presence.

None of them worth pandering to, listening to or worrying about.

Sad to see so many ex passionate Wests then WT fans change clubs.

These people put up with a lot of low performances and othrr crap over the years so the fact they they switched show you how disenfranchised old magpie fans have become in the WT.

Apart from emotional issues doesn't make business sense to lose committed fans.
If the media portrayal of our club was more balanced we would lose no Balmain fans but keep and add Wests fans.

A win win.

What do these Wests fans expect though?

The team to be called Wests Magpies and play all games and always train at Campbelltown? They didn't support the Magpies when they were around hence the need to form a joint venture. Joint venture require both sides to give and take.

The Tiger is a far superior marketing tool than a magpie and so the name was Correctly chosen to be Wests Tigers. Not even Western Tigers, West Sydney Tigers, but Wests. Even though it doesn't roll of the tongue as well they called the team Wests so Magpies fans could be happy.

The team frequently wears black and orange with some white? Do they expect all merchandise to be black and white only, and ignore the predominant colour of our mascot?? The most frequently used colour is black, which was common for both clubs so what the big deal?

The WT do twice as many school visit in the south west, and spend more on marketing down there.

And yes GNR i now realise the Parra game was after the Panthers one. Thought it was the other way around.

Wrong again. The support, or lack thereof as you claim had nothing to with why the JV was formed. It began and ended due to not being able to compete with the rich clubs due to SL.

And it was Newcastle in round 1 where we lost 42-10 that the Panthers game was after.

If it 'began and ended due to not being able to compete with the rich clubs', wouldn't that suggest you didn't have enough support to fund the club?

Wests Tigers are one of the strongest supported clubs in the NRL but at the same time aren't anywhere near being one of the strongest financially.

The fact that inept dinosaurs were running the club for so long might also have had a teensy weensy role to play in the magpie's demise (hand writing player contracts on scrap paper and the like).

However the fact remains that is the locals don't feel like they have a stake in the club, then its the club's responsibility to do something about that.

With the NRL led board coming into power, I am sure there will be a new push for the club to do more to identify with Campbelltown. Its an area of strategic importance to the NRL, and they will definitely want to increase rather than reduce their footprint in the area.

As an old Balmain boy, I don't want the club to abandon Campbelltown, and I don't want Campbelltown to abandon the club.

don't forget guys - there are 2 types of Wests fans - the inner west ones and the outer west ones. We should not group them as 1\. Can someone please draw a line in the sand. The fact is I couldn't of been in 2 places @ once.

Seriously some "fans" on here remind me of st george supporters talking about the past and past figures with enough conspiracy theories to write a book. Forget the past.

The fact is this year weve been playing awesome, attractive football and are a team on the up. We easily out numbered the dragon supporters at ANZ with a crowd of 20,000 and the same when we hosted souths there. At leichardt we had 16,000 in the pouring rain against a team who hosted a 13000 crowd at their semi 2 or 3 years ago.

Yet at Campeltown after a great win against manly and on the back of increased media exposure in reference to the "2560" battle, the gearzone player meet and greet, the relatively good weather, the $10 tickets (even though it couldve been marketed better), and the chance to watch the magpies in the lower grades C-town supporters had a great opportunity to make a point. However "we" only attract 6500 ? No excuses can be made, its seriously disappointing for the wests tigers franchise on a whole.

Im a huge supporter of the 4x4x4 stadium allocation for now because its a way of still recognising the past and sticking with our roots whilst embracing a new franchise and moving forward. I cant see the tigers removing games from CSS without subsequently doing the same to Leichardt sooner then expected which would be a massive shame (IMO anyway). So please C-town sider turn up to the games and support OUR team !!

Enough with the excuses, there is no reason to not turn out and support the boys at any ground in 2014.

Ps. Just for those who argue that the Tigers do little to engage the south-west and convince them to attened games, what would you guys/girls recommend they do to improve crowd numbers ? Because i seriously cannot see what more they could "realistically" do to boost numbers from a marketing perspective ? But our C-town brothers and sisters would probably be better positioned to answer that question..

I am confident Dave Smith will advise the three independants on the board to ensure the Wests Tigers remain committed to the Macarthur Campbelltown region. We already have too many inner-city clubs. So yes its a very easy option to grab the cash and play all at ANZ but I think our club has a bigger responsibility to the game …..... that is promote and devleop Rugby League in the region. Moving away from the region would make Mayers life a lot easier ...... but this isnt all about Grant Mayer ........ its about our club and who we represent and taking Rugby League to a wider audience .... particularly at a time when the game is under threat from rival codes.

Then the NRL can pay us to play there.

A RL Club is a business now. Businesses can't keep making decisions of negative financial impact and expect to survive

I should also mention that I think the NRL have an obligation to help us promote and develop Rugby League in the region as it is in the best interests of the game …..... so why should we shoulder the entire burden. Its been a tough nut the crack since Wests moved up there in '87 and Wests Tigers took over in 2000\. Nothing has worked yet and a whole new strategy needs to be worked out embracing local business, politicians, junior league people etc etc. We need help from the NRL me thinks ...... its too big for us to manage on our own.

I still think negotiate with the NRL.

Bring back the 6 - 3 - 3 split for two years with an assurance from the NRL that all games at LO & CSS will be Saturday or Sunday afternoon games.

The two years of extra games income from ANZ builds the financial base and allows the club to re-assess whether to bring back the even 3 ground split.

What did you think of Mayers comments Smeg ?
Over-reaction ?

If you're trying to get a region who isn't feeling the love from WT to commit their hard earned and support to the club, giving ultimatums probably isn't the best way to achieve that.

If he had of come out and said we, as a team, need to work harder and smarter to embrace the fans of both our heartlands, that would have been better than making veiled threats.

I have thought about this… And looking at that crowd, to me it personally looked over 6000

It did look closer to 10000 then 6000.

I'm a tigers fan and go to all home games.

This could be a plot by mayer, to give the boot up the bum... So to speak... Making the threat, undervaluing the crowd.

Hoping to stir the support for the next game.

I am not saying that this is what he is 100% doing here. But it does make sense if he is.

Note to sprout conspiracy theories, but with the number of comments made about the size of the crowd and the ticketing must be raising some questions. Further, these comments appeared in the herald today:

_Less than half of the 2500 allocated members for Campbelltown Sports Stadium attended Saturday night's victory against North Queensland,\
\
The corporate boxes were at capacity with 400 in attendance, while 4500 tickets were sold for the match that, despite the poor crowd, still made plenty of noise for the first game of the season in Campbelltown.\
\
While the crowd figure was disappointing, those at the ground showed plenty of commitment, exceeding the club's expectations by buying more than $15,000 worth of merchandise._

It is the last comment that is interesting. Has merchandise sales exceeded expectations set from the crowd? Perhaps the crowd was bigger and hence, explains the merchandise figures.

Mayer might not be as stupid as we think. He might be trying to kill many birds with one stone.

1) The fudging of crowd numbers might be to show how indispensable Balmain is to the JV even though they have no votes.

2) To scare Campbelltown council into reducing the rent.

3)To show its time to rebalance the JV to win back especially the inner city Wests fans.
4)To get newer Wests fans from Macathur to fight for their club.
