Seriously? You must be familiar with this set play, surely the 'favourite' amongst players and fans alike:
  • Set starts on our own 20m line
  • Tepid 1 out runs for 5 tackles
  • An awesome high kick from our own 40m line landing on the opposition fullback's chest
  • Slow/disinterested chasers letting the oppo get back to (or over) the half way mark by the second tackle.
classic

Our kick chase is so poor. I can’t remember who kicked but we were able to grubber into the Sharks in goal and it should have been another set but our chasers were so slow and disjointed the Sharks player was able to make it back into the field of play.

Whether you like Buzz or not, he probably does get some occasional mail on things around the place. Would you be surprised if Sheens was on less than Gus and part of his role was to the shield the incompetency of the club. I wouldn't be surprised at all.
Buzz is unreliable at the best of times, but he's certainly unreliable when it comes to his old nemesis Gus.
Part of his diatribe the other night was a dig at Gus rather than any real comment about Sheens or the Tigers.

my thinking, while entirely important to me, has absolutely and undeniably no effect on how these players will respond on a personal and professional level. My guess, would be, "extremely poorly".
I’m more optimistic, sometimes a critical change can bring about some spark.

The path of least resistance would have seen Brooks stay in place, but this should spice things up a bit.

I’m more worried about the Brooks adjustment than Hastings, but it’s likely a proof is in the pudding scenario.

I’m not too critical of Brooks per se, except for the value for money front. I see him as factory, but he wants out doesn’t he?

Anyway, no place to hide in our game. We will see what this pairing does in concert.

I remain quietly upbeat about Hastings. He’s having a swing.

Paul Crawley has "coincidentally" written about this in today's Telegraph

The complete list of coaches sacked mid-season over the past decade shows Jason Taylor holds the record for copping a bullet in the back the quickest. Taylor lasted just three rounds in 2017 before Wests Tigers were lapped 46-6 by the Canberra Raiders and the Tigers board made the call to make Taylor another of their many coaching scapegoats.

Last year it was John Morris who got his marching orders after five rounds when Cronulla appointed Craig Fitzgibbon for 2022 and put Josh Hannay in as caretaker.

In 2020 there were five coaches axed mid-season, namely Stephen Kearney at the Warriors (round six), Dean Pay at the Bulldogs (round nine), Paul Green at the Cowboys (round 10), Paul McGregor at the Dragons (round 14) and Anthony Seibold at the Broncos (round 15)., With the exception of 2016, there has been at least one coach relieved of his duties mid-year in every season since 2013.

I remember the presser when Taylor got the boot. Pascoe said that they werent prepared to let another season slide. He doesnt seem to be bothered about seasons sliding anymore.

Funnily, He ran straight into the gap created when Joffa didn't chase and started walking... The Old "Someone else will get him"
Then comes out firing shots, banging on about how hard they're "trying"

That said - He's been far from our worst...

But that was a great kick, Followed up by our usual shitty chase.

He has signed Kikau, Reed Mahoney, Matt Burton, JAC. These are class players . We could only dream of attracting so many good players in their prime. When they fix their spine they will be alright.

It's interesting comparing. I would take Api/Papa over Kikau/Mahoney any day especially on the reported salaries

We snared both Papa & Api to date - arguably the best players in each of their positions in the comp last year and started this year the same. We still have a heap of roster spots and a bunch of cash to splurge. Downside is we have a heap of roster positions and lack of quality to fill them which could lead us into rushed & over priced decisions. Time will tell.

Kikau, Mahoney, Burton and JAC aren't the best in their positions last year or this year, JAC if anything has regressed and they have him on his high wage for another 3yrs. Gus is struggling to fit 2 of them into the cap and have massive contention issues with their cap + roster for the next 2-3yrs. They can't just not offer players contracts they have to fill the 30 man squad quotas by set dates and be within the cap limits. Gus has zero cash to grab a halfback or fullback unless they trade their best players. Squad depth is going to be a massive challenge for them.

Side note - Gus started his splurge last year for this season to make an impact. Right now after 5 rounds, we have scored more & conceded less than their higher fancied purchases.

I noticed you forgot to mention the most important colume they have 2 pts in that one and we have how many. All the other stuff you mentioned doesn’t matter winning will fix most things
