Wish he got a few more weeks, team selected if fit with the addition of AD and Roberts in 17 would've been what he wanted. There were good signs.

Can only imagine they wanted to give him the chance to land NZ job as a sop to his genuine commitment and loyalty.

Whoever they land better be good and be able to bring across some big names.
Missed some of it but my take was that the main reasons for why now, is that current coaches available may not be by next year and also that when there are so many of our players off contract (this year) it allows the new coach not to be hamstrung by the same challenges (or excuses) as past coaches to build their own roster from the get go.

Great to see Tim Sheens give it to Paul Kent tonight. Kent reckons we didn't do anything after last years review, Sheens corrected him by saying wrong! We got pathways sorted, got new assistant coaches in, I've come in to help....
Kenty in the background nodding head 🤣
how good was that, he does not cop crap Sheensy, he turned into an attack dog, was awesome to see, i think even Kenty was suprised by his comeback to him.

A number of promising players went backwards under Madge.

Brooks - Dally M Halfback of the year 2018, club player of the year 2019 (played better in 2019 than 2018), then 2020-2021 were dreadful outside of a few good games here and there. Has been okay in 2022.
Garner - good hole runner in 18/19 running off Brooks. Then Madge moved him to the right edge and that part of his game completely disappeared.
Liddle - had a good pass on him and sharp dummy half work. Now he looks like a slow-moving robot who takes a while to compute his options, then takes the wrong one.
Mikaele - was an impact forward in his rookie year, then became a nothing player.
Twal - good in patches this year, but was bog average before that.

All of these guys showed promise prior to 2020 when the Madge method kicked in. Any unique or special abilities they had were coached out of them.

Sheens on the attack but I don’t like his reasoning.

For example lot of players are signed for next year and beyond and the new coach is stuck with them. To suggest that a new coach will have a full say and not use Madge’s players as an excuse for failure, it’s laughable.

I can't comment on Madge behind the scenes but I can comment on how a Madge coached Tigers team played... and boy. They were just terrible. I wish him all the best but when he arrived he said he'd take us to the finals in his first year. His couldn't ride on that reputation forever. Still doesn't make sense they sacked him now and not last year but anyway.

Sheens is talking shit - that is why he is defensive. As a coach that has been sacked he knows better than anyone the way this was handled was appalling and he is been thrown in the deep end to mop it up. He was stuttering for words on the news grab for good reason.
The "pathways" garb is the new go to. I don't believe for one minute that Maguire would not promote talent that was good enough.
He didn't have the support of the board and they panicked when Brown walked that they might miss out on the next sucker they pretend to back - that's what I think and I won't be convinced of other wise.

Did he go into detail about how the pathways is sorted?
Wasn’t Matt Betsy and Kimmorely and even Sheens all recruited prior to that last review…

He said the main reason was he has a 3 year plan.

Question was will madge be coach in 3 years and the answer was no.

That's good reasoning when you take the emotion out of it.

He's defending the club unlike the turncoat s on here.

It’s funny, I’ve been calling for Madge’s head since the end of 2019. He most definitely should have got the arse after our flogging by the dogs last year.
Having said that, he was actually having his best year here, taking into account his horror injury toll. Hearing reports that nothing had changed is a cop out. This club is the arsehole of the Rugby League world. An utterly incompetent rabble of wankers.
