Michael Maguire should be our new coach

As it stands we will be certain favourites for the spoon next year. I'll feel better if we can bring one top quality player in. Just one šŸ˜… BJ and Hastings don't count.

We are bound to win the comp then.

Any way you cut it, and despite the youth narrative the club is pushing, we’re struggling to attract quality players. Couple this with three full seasons of very little if any improvement in performances/examples of clever coaching and the club should absolutely be trying to determine what is going on. We’re a top grade pro sporting organisation and should be managed in such a way with accountability and high performance standards.

Ok, I'm taking it there is someone else in aussie is also called Michael Maguire? Yeah why not give him a crack?

For those of you supporting Madge.
If he retains his job is there a point at which you will draw the line?
4 years of no improvement?
5 Years of no improvement?

At what point does the mythical all encompassing excuse of "the long game" end?

I'd sack him now but the club will give him 6 to 8 games next season.

So if we don’t get the spoon it’s been a successful year?

I think the struggling to attract quality players line is massively overstated. Theres probably only 5, maybe 10, actual top quality players changing clubs each year. The over-whelming majority of them it is easy to see why they have gone to where they have gone to, usually a combination of moving to a stronger club chasing success, moving for family reasons, or going to the highest bidder. Very rarely is an elite player going to an average team that doesn't offer something the other teams haven't. With this in mind it would be a miracle if we were recruiting top quality players.
Pretty much every other transfer is typically just average clubs trading average players amongst each other.

Occasionally, a highly rated young player will change clubs for greater opportunity as they are stuck behind quality established players at their current club e.g. Matt Burton. Historically, this is the player that needs to be signed to change a clubs fortunes e.g. Thurston to Cowboys, Sam Burgess to Rabbitohs, Ponga to Knights.

We seem to have landed our fair share of these players in recent times, Utoikamanu, Laurie, Blore. So i think Madge's ability to attract talent is just fine.

Good post.
With Packer’s retirement and Mbye leaving, our cap has been put on the block and bashed back into shape. Kudos to those who had the discipline and foresight to make it happen.

Well Foxsports reporting a rift between Maguire and Hartigan.

I wonder if the inability to get good player signings has created finger pointing between the 2?

James Pooper, when short on material, goes to his "Tigers shelf" and grabs a few random pre-typed paragraphs, glues them together, submit it to his editor.

Blah blah blah "big 4 of Tedesco, Woods, Moses, Brooks" blah blah blah "coach under pressure" blah blah blah "history of missing finals" blah blah blah "salary cap pressure Packer Mbye Reynolds" blah blah

If you’re gonna sack him, sack him before he fills the cap with players the new coach might not even want. The same way Maguire had to deal with Mbye, Reynolds and Packer. Not to mention the excuses the new coach will be granted that ā€œthis is not his teamā€. This is the best time to appoint someone, with a clean slate and no baggage.

If only that would happen not by round 8 next season !
