Mick Potter's future at Wests Tigers

I love this site and it's members. Hillarious. we lose the first game of the year and everyone (well mostly) are calling for the coaches head, the captains head and some are even saying we should be relegated out of first grade. FFS kids. Its round 1\. You learn more about yourself in a loss than a win. End the witch Hunt. The players and the coaches have more invested in this club than any of us, whatever membership badge you hold.

Chill.

If the Dragons, who are deemed to have the worst attack in the competition, put nearly 50 points on us (without Dugan) what will other teams do to us?

Regardless of what you think yesterday was alarming for all the wrong reasons. Zero improvement from last year, we simply can't tackle and our discipline is atrocious. Not many reasons to be positive.

Im not suggesting we celebrate the loss. All I am saying is maybe you all need to chill out a bit.

Luckily the forum doesn't run the club (Cos god knows you all seem to know better). If you did we'd have a new board, new coach, new coaching staff and new players every other week. Hillarious.

Hang on, I am not suggesting that you are saying we should celebrate the loss, am I? But if you can't see the negatives then you are blind. Fact is yesterday was a huge concern and no amount of sugarcoating will change it.

The forum is a forum, it's a place to have your say, no one is suggesting they can run the club, they are just stating their opinion, are they not? If you don't like that, because the opinion differs to yours, well, that's just too bad for you.

ok let me put it another way. If your kid keeps failing at school, do you sack the teacher, the kid, the school or take the blame as the parent for birthing a dumb kid?

There are a lot more factors to a losing side than just the coach. (And im the 'blind one')???

Potter has now picked his side, so its his sword to fall on (you cannot count last year) at least give him time to grow/mould/shape and learn his side. You cant expect to win every game of what is only year 1 in a building stage. if we have had no improvement by end of season, then re-ignite this thread.

the coach dosent drop the ball , the coach dosent miss tackles …...but this coach keeps selecting the players who do .Potter stated he had worked on our defence in the off season .. well im glad he did cause saints put 44 on us ,, id hate to see what a top side is going to do

It does make me laugh that some are declaring Saints one of the bottom sides because they have "the worst attack in the competition", considering they have a brand new spine that has played a total of 1 game together…1 game. I am not sure how that is long enough to judge them a strong team or a poor team.

What I do know is that for the first half an hour yesterday we looked to have some defensive structures in place that were working. One of the tries was scored when two of our defenders were injured. We missed a try due to a bad bounce.

Why we collapsed after that is hard to say, heat, possession or lack of, lazy forwards in the middle, illness, poor last tackle options. For mine I think it is a little bit of all of the above.

St George got the rub of the green and many of the 50/50 decisions, and you know what, that's footy!

If we are less than 50% wins by origin time, then maybe Micks contract should not be renewed. However, I doubt you are going to see quality coaches putting their hands up to coach the tigers on the money Mick is reportedly on.

You don't get a divorce because your wife forgot to make your lunch, so lets see how we go next week.

PS: my wife never makes my lunch!

Milky, if we had caned Saints yesterday would you have put up an equally ridiculous poll about for how long the club should extend his contract? I think not! I think you've been sweating on a result like yesterday to post complete and utter rubbish like you have here. It's only one game FFS. Get a grip, man!! Or maybe let that grip go and get some oxygen to your brain so you think better stuff than this.

To begin I would like to note that Mick Potter is currently off contract and is not contracted with us for the 2015 season.

Our next 9 games include:

Titans
Rabbitohs
Warriors
Sea Eagles
Cowboys
Eels
**Titans**
Roosters
**Sharks**

I can only see us winning the highlighted games, 2/10 to start a year isn't a great record, opinions will differ on which games we will win but if Potter has a bad start to the year what would you do, and which games do you think we will win?

Personally, I would have Potter stay with us to mentor our backs, he has done a great job with out fullbacks, Tedesco, Meaney, Moltzen and Rowe improved immensely since Potter took over.

For the head coach I think signing Michael Maguire is a no brainer.

100% mate potter must go

If you think we'll be 0-6 to start the season those other two games are meaningless because he'll be gone. I think we're a chance to be 2-2 tbh. Titans and Warriors are winnable games.

Not with potter

The no Brainer bit is Maguire is signed till 2017 at Souths , what makes you think he would give that up and come here?

Exactly you have no faith in potter

We should sack Potter after the Gold Coast game, and put bigdamo in charge as coach!

It'd be genius!

A Wests and Balmain Boy! Full of an almost Sage like abundance of knowledge.

I can already smell the premiership - and see the headlines.

"MCGARRY ORCHISTRATES TIGERS REVIVAL"

"TIGERS WIN MCGARR-ND FINAL"

"BIGDAMO PROVES INTERNET NAYSAYERS WRONG"

I'm on the phone to Centrebet as we speak.

I still think Potter can get something out of this team. I've got faith. I like what he said after the match, placing the blame where it should go and I like that Brock Corfe and Teddy said that he pasted them and told them they were embarrassing after the match. It doesn't sound like he is offering any quarter for them this year and as well he shouldn't. Even if this team struggles all year and he gets sacked I will rate Potter. I think he has what it takes and I think last year was harsh luck with injury and ridiculous players acting like idiots ruining the season. This year with a little luck he will get improvement in the long run.

I feel the same way. I don't see Potter as the problem. He is also trying stuff.

Stuff? What? Defence stuff

Chill.

We invest our whole life time and money we have the right to a winning team. And they say why membership is down why pay money to watch rubbish.

we cant hang the coach after 1 game , we have new players , 6 in the game yesterday so he needs time to bring it together playing games not just training them , he will find players weakness and make changes over the next few weeks but to sack him , no let him run his term see where we are then act

We didn't get beat we got flogged by st George not Souths

It's not after one game. It's after an entire season, an off season and then the 1st game of the season. What the first game showed is that we are worse than we were at the first game of last season. We are woeful in defense and have no spark in attack.

I think he's run out of chances.

Whilst I agree Potter needs more than 1 game to get this team playing like he wants,I can't cop Anasta being picked every week,he needs to go and go now, along with a few others, players need to be put on notice, their spot is theirs to lose,NRL is not a god given right for these under performers.

I was a defender of Anasta, thought he may have been unfairly bagged in 2013 given he missed a lot of games with injury and played a number of positions.

I also thought he would be a level head and direct the team around, assist Brooks and assist in the kicking game.

He was pus on Sunday, didn't even look like he was interested. Surely Austin will be knocking on the door.

If we can't win more than half our games with the roster we have then I am happy to see Potter go. It's his job to get the best out of the players. I've been a big Potter supporter but if he can't make it work then maybe he's not right for the club.

I don't know what Steve Folkes is doing now (did I hear he was a video ref in the Panthers v Knights game?), but I would be hunting him down to fill the Head Coach role. It's no coincidence the two years he was here we finished in the Top 4.
