Mitch Brown

Mitch Brown just doesn't seem to have been given a fair go at our club - I have always thought he would be a great fullback, but as everyone on this forum is saying with all the new talent on board next season, it appears he will be overlooked again.
I too would have thought Mr Sheens would consider him a handy player to have around the place - he is very safe under the high ball. I wouldn't blame Mitch if he looked elsewhere, where hopefully he would be in the run on team each week - but I hope he stays around :crazy

I hope he stays with us & i feel after 2010 he was in very good form & should of been the starting no1 this year & given a chance. Ialso agree if he was on the wing against the Warriors he would of taken that bomb but he wasnt & hindsight is great, in two words KEEP HIM.

Forgetting about the dramas with Lui at the moment, with creative players like Lui, Marshall and Farah we don't need another cook spoiling the broth. Our side would be suited with a strong fullback that is safe under the high ball, positions himself well, and can cart the ball back up quickly. Mitch is able to do that, and do it very well.

He's not a superstar, but he's what we need in a team full of players who give "rocks and diamonds" efforts: SOLID.

I know it's not a popular opinion, but I'd take a safe fullback like Brown over a player like Moltzen who could be brilliant or brilliantly woeful.

considering the fact that he was barely getting a run… I'd call that Loyal. To clarify his position... When he signed with us from Sharks.... They had Covell, Ferguson, Gardiner... All getting a look in front of him, Collis was coming in.. Pomeroy, Stapleton, Williams, Kelly and Wright were there abouts... And we didn't have a fixed FB. Do the Math!! It wasn't his lack of loyalty... It was his lack of future!!

Geez mate- going to disagree about 'loyalty' here- he left the club that developed him into a 1st grade quality player where he was in a battle for a regular position to join.....a club that didn't develop him where he was in a battle to secure a regular 1st grade position..

It's not like he left the Sharks for a guarenteed starting role.

That's not loyalty mate- that's looking after himself first.

Don't really get your point… But I said his loyalty to the WT is evident as he re-signed at the start of the year with us even though he wasn't getting a regular start.. And that was BEFORE Moltzens news of departure!! Which wouldn't maker getting a start any easier... Where I'm from... We call that Loyal!!
He is a Sharks Junior and left them for a "Chance" at a FB start here (We didn't have a recognised FB), I also stated that (Read OP)... He was behind a long list of Up and Comers at CS as well as some Ring ins and Mainstays, Can't be-Grudge him for having a red hot crack at improving his chances.
I'll stand by my Claim that if he was in the team for Lote or Chrissy... (Both were well underdone), We win that game!! And as to people assuming he is NOT a superstar FB, Well we may or may not ever know!! I see some people who were calling for Moltz's head at the start of the year, Now wish he was staying.... That is ALL due to time to adjust to a permanent position... And NOT being given the boot, everytime someone is half ready to come back into said position (as Brown has)
Fact is Brown showed more form toward the end of the year than Utai, Lote, And Chris (Not having a shot at any of these boys... Injuries etc) combined... But was the first to be punted!!

I dont blame him for leaving the sharks, but I dont think that signing for us is him showing loyalty either, it is not like he was knocking back big cash or a guranteed spot elsewhere, is happy where he is, anywhere else he went he'd be in a similar position, so why change, doesn't make him loyal, makes him human.

If he had a guranteed spot or twice the cash at another club, he prob would have jumped it, as it stands he is a capable player at the edge of your squad, important to success of a club to have blokes like him, but if they go, well they go.

I**t is easy to assume he is not a superstar at fullback, if he had the raw skills to be an outstanding NRL fullback he would have got a chance to show it.** I like Brown, but i feel people have romanticised Brown's rock solid finish to 2010 into more than it is.

You can't be serious… Guys like Ayshford, Even Moltzen are all older than Brown and come on a bit late...
What about B Ryan... I'd be hard pushed to swap him for any winger in the Comp at the end of this year, And he's near retired!!
As far as I am concerned... You don't know what he could be, Nobody does... Because he hasn't been given a REAL FAIR DINKUM CHANCE!!

Not that it matters but Brown is older than Moltzen and Ayshford (and they have been inside the first choice side for 3 yeas), Blokes with the skills to be a SUPERSTAR (your description), dont sit outside the top side for 5 yeas as Brown has.
Clearly you like the guy, and rate him, but ask yourself this, if he was a potential superstar, how come no talent scout, recruitment officer or NRL coach has chased him hard at any stage in the last 6 years since he entered grade.
I believe he could do a solid job at NRL level, and hope he gets a chance with us or someone else, but I can assure you he will not be a superstar.

Im a Mitch Brown fan and im sure if he was left alone at fullback for a little while he would turn into a near superstar! How can he prove anything when he gets chopped from one position to the next week after week. I spoke to Mitch briefly yesterday at the Luncheon and he said he really wants the no.1 next year and he is doing everything possible for it, he is training harder than ever since the last game and will continue to through the off season and make it very hard for sheens not to select him at 1\. He also mentioned he much prefers playing right centre over left, but he hasnt had the chance all year as Ayshford didnt miss a game and he was outstanding all year..

If he doesnt get the fullback gig ill feel for him.

Said exactly the same to me about a month ago Diver, he's a really decent bloke. He also confirmed to me he was signed for next year 100%. He was actually signed mid season, it just didn't come out in the papers.

I feel that the only difference between Brown and Moltz is that Moltzen is slightly more agile.

But what Brown lacks in being agile, he more than makes up for in strength, safety and consistency. And considering the brilliance of Marshall and Farah we dont need a Slater or any other superstar in the #1

If Brown were our fullback next year we wouldn't be loosing anything and we can pick up were we left off this year.

I agree guys. I will happily sign up for a fullback that is safe, reliable, good defensively and returns the ball well. I think we have enough points and flair in us elsewhere.

Moltz in 7, Mitch in 1 for 2012!
