Mitch Moses

Was training with the first grade side today. Any news whether he is being named this week to play ahead of Brooks or something? Not very likely but possible. He is not that small he is about the same size as Kaysa Pritchard who is going fine. I was thinking that Potter is planing

6\. Moses
7\. Brooks

14\. Marshall

Pretty crazy I know but it may actually happen if Potter is serious.

Strangely enough I would not rule it out. Probably not this soon though. Moses would have very few minutes under his belt in training with the first grade squad alone due to his knee injury. I say strangely enough because he's obviously more physically advanced than Brooks that it's possible that he could be beat him there in the long run. However, I think it's safe to say he was making up the numbers for the session. The state cup side played yesterday and today would definitely have been a day off after past 3 games in a week.

he might be a talent , but would be concerned at exposing these young kids to early (I do believe in the saying if your good enough your old enough ) .
I know we are depleted with injuries but we have to have a fine balance IMO.

TBH I think we should lock up Brooks, Moses and Tedesco on 3-5 year deals really soon. Brooks, Moses and Teddy are highly rated by not only us but other teams.

That's it. This is why I know the likes of Marshall, Blair and even Utai will stay in the side when fit. We can't just keep blooding kids because they have potential. We already have too many in there now and look at our results.

Would doubt they would throw him in against the most physical side in the comp, but you never know we are at a level so low now it just might be the time to throw the kids in and hope and pray

While he was probably making up the numbers, I look at them this way…

Our Current 6 is a whole runner, or take it to the line and pass it on type of player [Centre/Backrower].
Our Old 6, currently playing Halfback has lost his spark, but has too much experience to leave out [Play him at 7 to provide a link]
We need some X-Factor and Creativity to question the opposition defenses. This requires someone who will think and play outside the square and play what is in front of them. [A Young Benji]

Brooks is a Footballer who plays a numbers/percentages game… Mitchell is an X-Factor and plays of the cuff and is exactly what we need. If we need to rely on Halves to make tackles, we have already lost!

One more thing... How old was Benji when he made his debut?

The playing styles are exactly what makes Luke & Mitch such a deadly combination in the halves.

When it comes time I would blood them both

It is pretty crazy, Moses would get destroyed in FG and he needs to bulk up quite a bit if he's going to walk off the field after a game.

Agreed Willow, but cast your mind back to a scrawny kid Sheens sent out to do battle with against the Bronks. If he is kept out of the defensive firing line, I think he has the evasive skills in attack to avoid the big collisions. Although after all Marshalls shoulder problems I think they will think long and hard before throwing kids in at the deep end again

that's an idea i've been toying with for a while. i reckon the game's changed dramatically in 10 years which has meant that it's extremely difficult for players to debut and dominate like benji did at 18 in 2013\. Even benji didn't come off unscathed, four shoulder reconstructions anyone? The game's just far more physical and weight based that few 70-80kg youngsters can make the jump to FG so quickly and easily.

Genuinely curious if anyone can name a player who's come into first grade to do well before they hit 20 in the last couple of years?

Agreed , I'd rather give someone a shot and hope for the best then to stick with the same ol team and dish out what we've been serving lately

85 wasn't he? benji was 89 before this season and slater is 90\. Inglis is only 101 which is surprising, just very strong i guess.

May be time for brooks, even though I still think he's too young and inexperienced. Maybe just hold out for Anasta to come back give him 2-3 games and see how he goes. If he does poorly we can bring in Brooks at Round 16 or so to blood him for 2014.

Reynolds is 10 cm shorter, weighs 10kg more then moses (although about the same size as brooks) and was 21 when he debuted. Give brooks and Moses are 18 and will be 21 in 2016 we can expect to weight 3 years . Daly cherry Evans was also 21 when he made his debut. Given those numbers we generally shouldn't expect much out of either for 3 more years
