Moses in Favour of Martin a Massive Mistake!

It's easy to be wise after the event and this type of discussion is not a positive one to have but….let's compare the two players;
Moses: Young, elite talent, high confidence, large ego, inconsistent, *disloyal/ unappreciative?
Martin: Young, elite talent, quiet confidence, humble, reasonably consistent, *respectful/ appreciative?
Obviously you can bring in the factors of Moses playing behind a weak pack, two halves with P plates, poor coaching, blah, blah, but I remember, I wrote a thread describing the potential of Martin and, sadly he was released. There is no doubt that he will develop into a top first grader and international. What a massive mistake the Tigers made.
As a footnote, I'm glad Moses is moving on. There is no room in the Tigers club for a player with an ego as big as his.

I don't know why we stuck with Moses over Martin anyway. Both stellar juniors but Martin was arguably the greatest NYC player of all time.

People didn't seem so broken up last year when Martin was injured and Moses was consistently winning games for the Tigers. Not that I don't agree with you.

Do the question marks mean what I think?
You know neither of them personally and are just making it up to suit yourself?
Letting Moses go will be a lot bigger mistake than letting Martin leave - twice the talent.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.I can understand the logic in keeping Moses ahead of Martin but unfortunately it was a decision the club got wrong.I cant blame the club for that many of us agreed with it at the time even though it was obvious Martin was very talented, you cant keep them all.Mistakes do happen you cant always get it right.

Culmination of years of mismanagement. Never should brooks and Moses and Farah have been on such massive salaries that we could not hold onto reasonable back up. In hahdsight we should of said to Moses sign for 3yrs at $400k or we are going with tmm.

I will bet you Martin ends up the better player. He has the personality of a champion. Moses's personality will hold him back.

I think so too, from observation real champions are humble more times than not and that's something Moses is not. As I've said before, he's similar to Benji - erratic playing style, over confidence and deluded belief in own ability. Letting go of TMM was a mistake, but only in hindsight. At the time Moses did have more of a spark and looked like a ready made superstar. Taking personality into account however you'd take Martin any day.

Good to see you both know them personally so you can make an honest judgement based on your intimate knowledge. :unamused:

As if you've never formed opinions of players/coaches based on how they conduct themselves on the field or public eye.

Long legs on that horse of yours.

Silly debate… Moses was the correct choice to keep based on his level of development and stage of his career.

TMM simply came through at the wrong time and letting him go to continue his career was also the right choice.

If TMM came through a year ahead of Mitchell, I'd say we wouldve kept TMM and let Mitch go.

Spot on Watto….

Blair over Gibbs/Fifita was even more dumberer...

The Broses factor probably played a big factor in the choice to keep Moses or Brooks over TMM.
The club probably feared losing both but now in hindsight the choice seems silly but at the time understandable.
Also the club possibly had reservations of pairing two young halves together and Martin being younger again probably made the choice for the club.
This club is littered with seemingly poor recruitment and retention decisions hopefully cleary is all over that now and is given greater influence than the last two coaches.

Well you don't need to know them personally to judge their playing styles.. And how they conduct themselves in the media, and through some of the choices they make does start to build an image of their personality in the public eye. We can only judge by the evidence we're presented with.

Ask the majority of our fan base if Moses is an awesome guy, and I think you'll find they're holding some negative judgement despite not knowing him personally.

Ah took a while but a sensible post did come in.

Too many supporters use hindsight as the driver of their emotional position. You can't use future knowledge as the primary argument to decry past decisions, you have to accept that those decisions were made with different knowledge and in a different position.

Now to expand on what Watto said: Moses played SG Ball for Tigers in 2012, played Schoolboys and was named tot he NSW Blues pathways. He joined NYC in 2013 and signed a 4-year deal in August 2013, along with Brooks.

Te Maire Martin played Arrive Alive Cup in 2013 (i.e. Moses' current contract sign-on year) and didn't join NYC until 2014, by which time Moses was already being positioned for FG. At the end of 2013 TMM had played NYC for one season and MM had played first grade 10 times!!!

I said it in another thread, you can't just hold back young kids in case your first choice does not work out. TMM had an opportunity at Penrith, Tigers had sunk their faith into Moses and they did the right thing to let TMM go.

But in 2013 when Moses was signed, why would anyone have chosen TMM over him? Nobody would have, Moses was on the brink of FG and TMM had barely left high school.
