Moses Mbye Super Duper Thread

I don't pay much attention to comments on Facebook but some comments on there mirror those on here. People are being unnecessarily unfair on Mbye.

Good luck for the future Moses.Class act the way you are going about your departure and not bagging us out like other players have in the past.

Anyone know what the deal he got at the drags? Obviously we are paying half for next year, any word on how much longer and how much they have given him?

Probably making up the rest of what he was on in 2022 with us. He’d still be on 800k next year with us tipping in half.

Yeah cheers mate, I was more wondering about how much after that he has decided he is worth that’s all.

He wasn’t the player that lived up to his marquee status and that’s hardly his fault, you have to look at Pascoe, Egan and Cleary. I don’t blame him for taking the money on the table, if we had paid $450k for him or less his true worth he’d probably still be here next season. As people have said he seems like a decent bloke can talk a good game but he’s just an average footballer who probably could and should have had stints in reggies, but when you’re paying him what we were you can’t justify that. Time to move on for all parties wish him well can’t say there will be any good memories though.

I think a good point is, big money does not make you a Marquee player.

Mbye was never bought as a Marquee player and never played as a Marquee player.

It is a term that is thrown around too will nilly.

Teddy, Turbo, DCE, Walker, Munster etc. etc. are Marquee players.

Mbye was just a very ordinary NRL player that we threw twice as much at, as we should have.

He's left in a pretty classy manner. Not sure he deserves some of the comments people have thrown at him...

Agree, If he was on like 400-500k most fans would have no problem with him as he covers a lot of positions. Our mistake giving him massive overs.

I give Mybe credit at least he was honest tonight in the interview on ch9.

Subtle digs at the club if you read between the lines….whoever negotiated his $800-900k salary deserves a medal…he has been a dud buy only cause he never lived up to his salary….had he been on his true value $300k…there would be no negative noise…..

Tamou was meant to be one of those players but he’s been a massive flop.

This is why I don't like that approach. Tamou to me isn't that bad mainly because we aren't paying him that much.

I agree we probably need 3-5 players to improve significantly. Ideally we'd get what you are stating but we'd probably end up with more plodders, a dodgy salary cap and then lose players like Stef.

This is a weird read to me. Hoping could be out of context?

Madge gave him the captaincy and because they weren’t developing or progressing, he felt like a hinderance?…it’s like he just put his hands up in the air and went oh well that’s all I’ve got?

The NRL.com article says Mybe is selfless for leaving the tigers.

But he's still on close to $1m next year - with WT paying a fair wack of that for him to play off the bench for someone else.

Selfless would of been to forgo what WT owed him for next year.

Not saying he should do that - but I don't think he's selfless either.

Half way through a $3.5m contract and decides he’s just not good value. Honest but didn’t offer to give anything back.

He will go well at the dragons in the number one or six & prove many people on this forum wrong.

Well why in the hell - didn't he do it here!!!!!!

By your comment then he must have been tanking.

Just a soft money sponge.

He was not given the opportunity here with Madge he kept on playing him in different positions & off the bench I’m pretty sure Griffin will put him in one position & that’s why he will excel there & the way Madge gave the captaincy to Tamou over Mbye was disgraceful no wonder why his heart was to play elsewhere & not at the tigers good luck to him & I for one hope he plays well he is definitely a top 17 & was not his fault that our club paid overs for him.

Downvote

Completely speculating, but by Madge giving him the captaincy he was basically saying you have an opportunity to live up to the price tag. Its mbyes choice to leave rather than suck it up and work harder with the responsibility. It probably backfired on us because it took so long yo find a home for him.

IMO, mbye although probably an ok guy in person, has at the same time got some toxic qualities for a professional team player. He may work out better surrounded by different personality types and I wish him well.

Onwards and upwards!

I don't think any player will ever do that ever 😂
