Went and saw Zero Dark Thirty yesterday and came away impressed with several things:

1\. The performance of Jessica Chastain. I'd say she has an Oscar all but in the bag. She really does nail the part of a truly dedicated CIA Analyst, and doesn't take a backward step to any of her superiors when facing setbacks during the film.

2\. The general execution of the film and the way it is portrayed. America is not painted as the good guy in all of this, and in fact they do some downright awful things. There are no apologies though, the film simply recounts events as they were told, without glorifying either side. The final act where Seal Team 6 roll in to take care of business is brilliantly executed.

3\. I'm surprised Kathryn Bigelow wasn't nominated for best director once again. She has used a large ensemble cast with great effect, and the final act where Bin Laden meets his fate with a high velocity 5.56mm bullet is one of the best staged action sequences I can recall seeing.

I wouldn't call it an entertaining film, it's not. It almost plays as a documentary in a way, with very good acting from all involved. I found it genuinely interesting and highly recommend it, regardless of what one may think about America's war on terror.

I watched it yesterday Willow and while I thought it was a good story, I felt it lacked a climax… I assume this was done to ensure they didn't glorify either party?

What was it in the end, 190 days until they finally decided to go? The bloke could easily be running around the streets of Melbourne today with the way US policy works... Thank god he was still there!

I would still recommend everyone goes see it, but its not an American Action Film and there isn't a Hero Scene.

To those with kids watched The Kroods today with the young uns and they really enjoyed it

It had a few laughs for us older kids as well

Would recomment it

Going to see Man Of Steel on Thursday despite all the rubbish reviews. Looking forward to it, looks to be the same kind of theme as the Batman trilogy.

Saw a great French romantic comedy, “Happiness Never Comes Alone”.
If your a bloke ,always trying to appease the wife after a Friday night bender , after a Wests Tigers win, as the Alice Cooper song …"smokes & drinks & don't come home at all" take her to this film.
You both will have a great laugh , she get warm & fuzzy feelings while you will get a lot of pleasure watching Sophie Marceau's performance......she must be the sexiest 47 year old lady on the planet.....and they are real and there spectacular

It's picked up decent reviews in the US from what I've read, plus they reckon the fight scenes at the end blow away the set pieces in the Avengers.

Russell crowe doesn't compare to Marlon Brando.
No Gene Hackman.
A pommy superman?

That's all my rubbish.

But I will be watching this one.

One question - with all their power and invincibility, and with the countries in the world - why do Zod & his mob want USA, and Superman only ever saves people in the USA. What do they see in the USA? -at least Lex Luthor aka Gene Hackman just wanted 'Australia". And we never got to Australia.

And if Superman is so super - then why doesn't he help in other countries - ah yes, he did come to the Eiffel Tower in Paris - but that was only to save the life of his loved Louis Lane - Margot Kidder. Now if she was never there, Superman wouldn't of been there and the terrorists would of got their way in Paris - but where was Superman - the son of Jor El. To save the earth not just the USA.

I hope this film plugs those holes -

I have similar gripes AHX, like why does Superman stop bullets with his hand, yet duck when they throw the gun at him.

I watched World War Z last night. It was probably one of the better zombie movies I've seen but in saying that it wasn't the greatest. There were a few what are you doing moments and it just didn't have a great rhythm to it.

For those with young uns , have seen both Despicable Me 2 and Monsters Inc 2

Despicable Me was enjoyable , kids loved it but Monsters Inc 2 Put me to sleep and when I asked the kids what they enjoyed most they said the popcorn

Yep, it's a very solid film with good performances and good fight scenes, I liked it a lot.

As did I. I liked the story - a tad inplausible sure, (how he is selected for the tournament over so many others have should have been higher up the pecking order), but the family dynamic was superbly written and acted. Tough movie about extremely tough people.

The thing that makes me a bit 'meh' about superman is the fact that he is nigh on invincible. He has all these super powers that help him like being able to fly - both on earth and in outer space, being extremely strong, having supersonic senses, having x-ray vision etc….it is pretty much implausible that he can be defeated and that makes his stories boring.

I liked Nolans Batman series because that character is nothing but a vigilante with great resources. He is human and is vulnerable. In all 3 films, his nemesis was either smarter, crazier/ballsier or stronger than him. He had to adapt in different ways to defeat them and most of the time he did it by displaying moralistic human behaviour. He was always in danger of dying and that made his stories interesting.

Watching an indestructable guy take down villans is nowhere near as exciting for mine...thats also why I hated the avengers flick. It was good eye candy but left you feeling empty really as it had bugger all depth. I suspect the Man of Steel is similar.

The thing that makes Batman in general great and different Stryker is that he is the only superhero that doesn't have superpowers.

The Nolan series was a great departure from the comic book style batman movies of the 90's and brought more sense of reality to the story and made Bruce Wayne/Batman seem more like a normal guy.

The last movie in the trilogy had great psychology with Bruce as a real underdog

Not a movie but a mate lent me a tv series called Game of Thrones. Anyone rate it?

Only seen a few episodes of the first series, hasn't been too bad actually.

Have not seen it but the general consenus is that it is currently one of the best tv shows out there and was also the most widely pirated show last year.
