When you need to buy new tyres for your car, do you buy 8? Just because you have the money?

No, because it is pointless.

Tui was bought as a fullback but was given time at #6 in first grade this year to get him fit. No-one can argue that he got better each game he played, he even got a MOTM award.

Even Tui admits that his preferred position is fullback and I for one don't think that he will be a flop there.

I won't argue if Cleary signes Moylan, I just believe he isn't a priority for one of the two spots left.

How can you compare tyres to rugby league players. Tyres are all the same which is why you buy 4, not 8\. Players have different skills and abilities. You want to have the best players possible. As for Tui, who cares. Players have shown very little loyalty to the fans and the club in the past, time to put together a team that can actually make the finals.

So you're saying our finals aspirations hinge on Matt Moylan?

We have a hell of better chance of making the finals with him in the team. You don't think so?

Probably. But we already have spent on our spine. What are you gonna do?

Too bad he's only one player.

Marsters could be anything.

The point is, our back row is weaker than our spine. We have an Origin player at 6, a 1 who could be anything and a 9 who could be anything.

An ex origin player. He's nowhere near that standard anymore.

Let's see how he goes in a new team under a new coach before throwing him in the trash. Anyone playing under Des the last couple of years could do with a change of scenery.

That's because if Manly sign him, they will move Blake Green on. Who will we move on?

We don't need to move on anyone. Unlike Manly we have enough cap room.

I struggle to understand why anyone would not want to sign someone who would be the best player in our team by a considerable margin. It just makes zero sense.

Sweet, so by your logic if JT, Cronk, Slater, Munster and Morgan all became available we should not approach them because we've already signed some players? Manly has a spine that is eons better than ours and they're still looking to try and sign him.

Your way of thinking is a good strategy if you never want to play finals football.

That's because if Manly sign him, they will move Blake Green on. Who will we move on?

We don't need to move on anyone. Unlike Manly we have enough cap room.

Why waste cap space on a position we have filled when we have one of the weakest back rows in the comp?

We've already spent money on our back row too. Plus the biggest problem - there are just no decent back rowers available who are any better than what we've got.

Agree 100%. Anyone who has any idea about footy would want a player like Moylan in the team. You would do what you could to fit a world class player in your starting team. I'm very impressed with Tui, but he doesn't own the fullback position. If he kills it in the pre season and trials then sure. If he does then you could play Moylan in the halves , I'd even put him at 7 and have Reynolds At 6.

Think our spine is set in stone.

1\. Tui
6\. Reynolds
7\. Brooks
9\. Liddle/McIllwrick

Rock on :righton:

Hmm… live in manly or live in penrith... Tough decision

Well cheaper rent in Penrith by far.

But why do footballers have to live in the suburbs where they work? Lots of Sydney-siders don't.

Because Brookvale is a hard to get to unless you live nearby. Traveling from Penrith everyday would get tiresome very quickly.

I think that this will be our spine as well. It could be good but it could be terrible. We have no reliable consistent players in that spine.

I do think though that we will have players like Benji and possibly Gamble putting pressure on those guys. I also think that all of those players excluding Reynolds could develop into quality NRL players.

Based on our recruitment I would agree that's our spine. But I don't think it's set in stone. I don't think any player should be guaranteed any position, especially not at a club that hasn't played finals in many many years. So if a player like Moylan comes along you pick up and re-arrange your spine. At the end of the day it's about winning games.

The thing for me about Moylan, no doubting he has some talent, but I don't agree you just sign a player because he's available and good.

It's not just that we have existing players in Moylan's positions, but we have to think long-term. If we get him from Panthers, right now Panthers aren't desperate and we'd probably have to pay a significant portion of his contract. This then means a long-term investment in a large salary in a position that isn't key for us.

This impacts our potential signings for 2018 and 2019.

As someone else noted, Nathan Cleary travels from Newport to Penrith.

If we sign Moylan, we most likely miss out on Cleary in a couple of years. So if it's a choice, who do you choose?

Why do you say that…Wests Tigers only have 9 contracted players out of 30 beyond 2019...I see no correlation the signing of Moylan would effect the possibility of signing Cleary should he be available..you could argue that it may even strengthen the possibility as they are supposedly close...

Moylan is certainly a high quality rep player but when you have already assembled the majority of your squad, I think you should only buy someone that fits in with your 2018 plan, not someone who replaces a player you've already spent good money on.

Reynolds would be close to our highest paid player now so it's silly buying another five eight - he's not a fulltime hooker as some suggest.

Tui is the current tip as fullback so if Moylan plays fullback Tui will be the utility - so why did we buy Benji? Don't tell me to replace Brooks, that's just dumb in anyone's language.

The two last spots should be for areas we are weakest at, not got covered already. A good, fast backline goal kicker would be nice but there's not many of them - period

With Moylan in the team we look like a top 8 side.

Doesn't seem like you read what he was saying. Unfortunately for the brigade who want him here, we've already spent money and roster spots on the spine, including depth. Moylan might seem great because he appears to better than what we have, but he doesn't fill a position we need. If he was a back rower, we'd be in business, but we don't need a 5//8 or fullback. We have sufficient depth already.

Yep we don't need him. We've hit our peak already. A top shelf player isn't going to be an improvement. Yippeyyy!GF here we come!!! :crazy
