Are you talking about the same guy who is talking about Rugby 7's at the Olympics

Sounds like we will end up being a stepping stone at best to be successful in another code

A typical McDonnell purchase in my opinion

Better get used to it happy. You are kidding yourself if you think this new generation isn't aiming to make the most of every sporting opportunity available to them, inside league or otherwise. SBW and Israel Folau are big role models, and considering what they've achieved in terms of their breadth of experience and personal brand, you can understand why.

Win State of Origin, play at the rugby World Cup, pick up an olympic medal, enjoy a few summers in France? Count me in, bro!

Clubs are also becoming ever more ruthless about business management, so why should players not also think that way? Even just recently, reading FPN's interview about how he was offloaded to Canberra, the Roosters essentially deciding they didn't want him any more. Why should a kid expect the club to take care of them their entire career, without keeping other plans/options in their heads.

The "one club" men are fewer and fewer these days; anyone with the right skill-set will avail themselves of all opportunities.

This kid is just ballsy enough to say it out loud. Credit to him, he's young and super confident - you need that platform to make it big. I can appreciate big claims or big goals if it's ultimately matched by talent. Better than the usual off-season cliches "I'm fitter and more focused than ever" (hello Benji) or "looking forward to working with the new coach" (hello Blair).

Why do people naturally assume because he is a sprinter he has no idea about league even though he plays, give the kid a chance.

Exactly. And I for one enjoy these stories about the young blokes at the club. Some of you guys just come across as grumpy old men, fair dinkum. Good luck to the kid, and well done WestsTigers for making these stories available.

Good post. But I think that the dopes who are denigrating this young bloke are grumpy young men, not grumpy old men.

How did you come to that conclusion Col?

Agree with most of what's been said. It highlights the futility of relying on "young guns". Like anyone else these days , they will jump ship quickly if a better opportunity presents itself. Blake Austin was a case in point. The Tigers gave him a lifeline, helped him establish as a first grader and he was gone.
You need to try to finish as high as you can every season. Another so called rebuilding year can disappear in a flash as a few young guns sign somewhere else. This is not the 1980's, you have to be pragmatic every season. We are simply being naive .

Old saying - you can't coach speed. In other words you've got it or you haven't. Massive advantage to have it in abundance. It's not everything obviously but it's a start.

I can see where people are coming from feeling a bit sketchy. I've never heard of the kid, could be a champion, could be a dud for all i know, but you don't get excited over a player solely on the fact he has speed. People made that mistake with John' Grant

Of course you have not heard of him, he has just finished school for God's sake.

No one had heard much of Benji when he arrived from the same school.

Give him a couple of years and then you can judge.

Maybe they should be writing the stories in a couple of years too….thats the point your missing completely Col

The club has little else to write stories about

On a bit of a side note from the big debate going on….

I saw someone on the WTs Facebook page mention he's already broken izzy falou's vertical leap record. Can anyone confirm?

Some people on this forum are forever going crook about the lack of information coming out of the Weststigers club. So they give us some information on a young signing and you are still complaining?

Well said jirskyr. Nothing wrong with players stretching their wings. Challenging and testing themselves in different sports is becoming the norm now days. Like it or not.

No stories on any first graders eh?

Do we have first graders?
Did I miss the post?

Lol not anymore, JT is getting rid of them all!

Seriously though, if you have a goal to be the fastest at something, then become an Olympian. However, if you have a goal to become the best rugby league player you can possibly be, then welcome to the NRL.

Says he played 3 games at the start of the year

Yeah he played a couple of times early on then hasn't been seen since. Not sure if he got injured or left the club. Hasn't been on any of his social media accounts for a while either…
