My reasons to why Moltzen plays 7 for the rest of season:

2. Benji plays better when Moltz is at halfback (and IMO so does the rest of the team)
3. Molzten is an average fullback but it would be horrible to see him not (or under) utilised or even worse, lost
4. From my limited knowledge, Moltz is an integral part of the backs morale – he, Benji and Beau (and now Lote) + others bring so much exuberance to the team – this something not talked about often but I think is very important to our youngish team (and Lui doesn’t have this IMO)
5. It opens up fullback to other players – i.e. Beau, Tuqiri, and even the much talked about Mullaney and Laz
6. Lui and others are not properly proven at FG

Whether Moltzen should play halfback is dependent on whether he is the best player for the job. No other reasons are needed. At this stage Moltz should have the first crack at the job IMHO.

There are some fair points there, but I think the thing is at the moment, as long as Moltzen does his job, he won't be dropped. I expect he will improve more at halfback with the more time he spends there and it will be interesting to see how he goes next Sunday against the Raiders as he returns to the place where he destroyed them last year.

1\. Why? Who else at half do we have with such a record?! Yes, its only a record but good records are a reason in themselves.
2\. I wasn't talking only about this season - look at the 5 games Benji played with Moltz last last season also.
3\. Why? Better one good player playing out of position and playing very well, than one very good player being on the bench and wasted completely

A lot of these views （particularly the 6/6 record) have been used to justify Moltz being the right choice for 7\. In reality only one of the games (Canberra last year) can be attributable to Moltz. I just think its lazy analysis. For example, our best victory last year was against the Dogs IMHO. Who was the 7? Morris. Does that mean we were wrong to let him go. No it just meant the team played very well and Morris played his part in a very good victory. Exactly what Moltz has done in 5 out of 6 of those matches.

In terms of number 6 I hate this argument as it has been used by Fitzy supporters to justify why he has been chosen in first grade. It doesnt matter in what context it is used, it is a crap argument that prevents young players from getting a chance to prove themselves as opposed to mediocre older players with experience.

Just to be clear, I didnt agree with you on 4\. I meant ditto as in the same answer as my answer to 3.

The 6 from 6 record is not about Moltz winning us one or any of those games at all, its about him playing at 7 and us winning each game. Sorry but thats not lazy analysis at all, its blatantly obvious support for his role at 7\. Did we ever win more than 2 or 3 three games in a row while Morris was at half? I suggest the last halfback that enjoyed 6 wins in a row in the 7 role was Princey in 05\. :question: The Dogs win was great but IMO a win once the season is over doesn't count much for comparison - nor does Morris for Moltz. In relation to point 6, my comments regarding "other players" were solely directed toward the topic of Moltz at 7- not any other player. In the context of Moltz, there is talk of Lui, Laz & Mullaney - def not Fitz or fifita

No offence taken Southern.Its a footy forum and the banter is fun. But giving your own reasons for your support of Moltz at 7 would boltster the topic I started (as would giving us a little more detail why my reasons for his inclusions are lacklustre). Look forward to it … :wink:

I would like to see how he goes at 7 in a tough game. That will be the test. Gould is right that we have never had a problem winning easy.

We should have been up 20-0 at half time on Friday given the field position and possession we had. However, we lost our attacking structure in that second 20 mins. Thats a concern for me and I wonder if it would have been the case if we had a genuine half back.

That being said, there is a lot I like about Moltz at 7 and I have always been willing to give him the chance to develop there.

I agree we should have had a bigger lead at HT - at least 4 points lost to poor goal kicking :laughing: . But really what is a tough game to you ST? Parra are no walk over, thats for sure. Nor was Manly last year. I guess you are talking the likes of the Storm and the Dragons?

So who do you think may have the best game to be our halfback if not Moltz? No one in FG has played as good as Moltz in that position IMO. And I rate Lui as a player (but without sounding trite, refer to the previous 6 points :slight_smile:

also ill add this, while lui hasnt done anything wrong hes hardly made a decision and IMO struggles to read the game, like do you think lui would of put that kick in for ayshford? sorry but lui seems to lack the vision and read the game at this point of his career

what we saw with tim on friday night was the ability to know when to run when to kick and most importantly give early ball to marshall, sheens would have to have a brain explosion to move moltz from the 7

It was a tough game and when the match was in the balance Moltz didnt step up. It was Benji and Farah. Now that doesnt mean I think Moltz had a bad game. Far from it.

Ron, you're right Lui doesnt make many decisions but neither does Tim. Come on that kick for Ayshford was hardly ground breaking work. In fact, Moltz didnt actually get the kick right and created more work for Blake.
