Nathan Cleary

im a bit apprehensive of putting all our eggs in Clearys' baskets.

dejavu to 2014 when we thought teddy, moses, brooks and farah would be the spine of the future

We don't need Nathan Cleary …
Money would be better spent on some mongrel props and back rowers .
Brooks is doing a good enough job at the moment plus we have Reynolds, Lolohea, and Mbye in the mix .

Spending 1.2 Mill on Cleary would be stupid !

The Tigers front office would have had plenty of dialogue with Ivan about both a contract extension and the possibility of enticing Nathan across. Either way, I am pretty sure they would know well in advance if the Cleary's are coming or going….

I don't think Ivan is the type to spring on a last minute transition to another club. He is good mates with Pascoe. Nathan may stay at the Pennies. I think Ivan will be a long term Tiger. I don't think its about top dollar for the Cleary's and I can't see either at the Roosters.

Pascoe will also be in demand. Plenty of clubs would love to get him onboard especially teams who need to be guided out of a big black hole known as the salary cap who are facing a few bleak years and need a road map to get back on track

Good point, another club could make a play for all 3 as Pascoe and Ivan seem to have a good working relationship.

I think Ivan will want to stay he is on his way to rebuilding his 3rd NRL club now and deserves a chance to enjoy success from a platform he built. Plus he was a Tigers fan so that has to help 😛ray:

If Nathan doesn't come to us I hope he stays at the Panthers because the Roosters would make me sick.

You would have to think that IC would certainty want to see the fruits of his endeavours with the Tigers …the satisfaction of Rebuilding a club through to a premiership would be the pinnacle of ones career ...Gould stole that from him at Penrith now someone else gets the spoils.

Relax and take a chill pill, nobody is going anywhere! - although it’s to their benefit to conjure up some doubt.
Ivan got punted from the panthers and needs to build a solid resume. He’s investing too much in the tigers’ future personnel to move on and relinquish the accolades.
Pascoe also got punted from the panthers so he would be at home watching Dr Phil each day if the tigers didn’t take him on.
Nathan may or may not come to the Tigers but the responsibility of the board is to ensure we mitigate that risk by keeping Brooks on the radar, developing Gamble in a succession plan etc.

No idea how Roosters are rumoured to be planning to package the Clearys for 2020, when Ivan is contracted to us 2018-2020\. Unless they can make us dump him before then.

When has a contract ever been a problem for the Chooks. I am sure they would be willing to pay plenty to the WTs as compensation and the WTs would probably accept if they knew he was going to jump ship in 12 months anyway.

IMO its a two horse race between Penrith and us, with the Panthers being slight favourites. Although as good as he is, we have Brooks (if we can extend him) and a million plus a season can buy you a couple of very good players.

Not the same with coaches. Has a coach ever asked for and been granted an early release from a contract? Normally they are doing well and stay, or they are dumped.

Des Hasler is the only question mark, I can't exactly recall under what circumstances he joined Dogs from Manly.

No, he technically became a free agent when Tinkler was bought out, and chose not to remain at Newcastle.

Well Hobbo if Brooks keeps improving, maybe even wins Dally M, he will nearly double the money he is on. My bet is that in 2019 we’ll have Brooks or Cleary but not both.

It actually may happen this season…...

Both are contracted for 2019.

If the Rorters go after Nathan they'll have to go after Ivan also, the wheeling & dealing will be fascinating there'll be brown paper bags flying everywhere.I think Ivan will stay so he can admire what he has built, would have probably still been at Panthers only for Gould's bad call.

Well it’s a funny coincidence in this thread to be talking about Hasler & Cleary & coaches switching clubs .

The 2011 Grand Final was between Manly coached by Hasler & The Warriors coached by Cleary . Both were contracted to those clubs for 2012 & both left a year early .

Hasler left because the Dogs signed him for 2013 & Manly said “well you may as well go now”. They didn’t part on good terms .

Halfway through 2011 Cleary wanted to take his family back home & the Warriors agreed to release him . He continued coaching until the end of the season & got them to the Grand Final . They parted on good terms .

There endeth today’s history lesson .

In tomorrow’s episode we look at the life & times of Ricky Stuart …. :astonished:

I think its time, that if its not already happening, that our Uncle Harry puts his hand up for a TPA and uses Ivan to promote his apartments who wouldn't by an apartment from Ivan.

Good idea.
Better used to get Cleary here than it would've been to keep Teddy.
