Nathan Cleary

Clearly and Brooks as a combo would be fantastic

Love J Rey but god that has to be up there with one of the worst signings ever….. paying him 700-800k for him to play like 2 and a half games

If we can offload him to soemone who’d be willing to take him like Newcastle, Raiders or maybe even ESL

Seems like a really good bloke but ideally if we get Nathan it’s either Brooks or J rey who has to make way and I know who I prefer over them 2

You can't offload anybody if they do not want to go. That is a fact.

I would say he will be used as a utility on the bench when Benji retires and if the other scenario eventuates. I'll believe that when I see it.

If we sign Cleary there will be plenty of interest for Brooks from rival clubs and that will force his price way up.There are plenty of clubs that need a quality no7.

So even if he wants to stay we may not be able to match the money he will be offered. Interesting times ahead, but as I have said before, Cleary on his own is not the answer, we will need to get some quality around him

I’d extend Brooks now. This locks his price before any real competition. Clubs will circle as soon as NC is announced thinking Brooks will want out and force the price up.

BTW - As much as he denies it, I’d be surprised if Ivan didnt know the exact state of play with Nathan to the minute.

100%…they are very close, Nathan lives at home, I'm 100% sure they have privately hatched a plan many months ago how this is to be played out....

They live under the same roof, they probably talk about it every morning while Mrs Cleary is cooking eggs. Probably the most unique contract situation ever. Imagine a rival coach being that close to your star player, the player you hope to build your club around for the next 10 years.

Imagine also if that coach was really good, and you'd inexplicably sacked him a couple of years previously because your whole squad had been injured for two years straight, to replace him with a congenital idiot who was mid-way through pissing away the club's best chance to win a premiership for more than a decade. What a fool you'd feel.

As far as I'm concerned Luke is a keeper.
If Nathan does come play Luke at 6 Nathan at 7 Liddle 9 and Grub as bench who can fill in at 6 or 9.
We still need some more grunt in the forwards as well.

I think Brooks performance tonight showed his real place in the team- not a definite keeper, replaceable, just not at a consistent first grade standard after way too much development time and expectations, and unable to lead the team around the park. PENCIL IN FOR REPLACEMENT…....... NEXT!!!!! N. Cleary I hope so.

Could this happen for next season ..going by Goulds comments today he would not stand in his way as he has an agreement with him if he wants to go .
Hopefully Brooks will be moved on sooner rather than later .

He really has to go.

Two tries straight through him. Five short kicks, one dropout, four possessions to the dogs. Garbage! !

The rest weren't much better either. In my opinion only Chee-Cam, Thompson, Mbye, Benji and our two starting props earned their money.

Garner looked like he was still injured from last week and should not have played.

Very disappointing.

Brooks has no intention to leave and would take less than offered elsewhere to stay IMO..

When push comes to shove…money talks

By God the Sharks could use a player like Brooks, they were clueless last night when in attack

Yeh Brooks is so much better at setting up.the attack than Townsend, he showed last night he isnt even as good as Townsend

Absolute unenthused rubbish dished up last night!
Apart from Masters the rest aren’t worth feediing!
Garner excepted as he was holding his neck all night and was clearly hadn’t recovered from last week.
McQueen is history! Back to the tattoo parlour.
Nathan Cleary gives 100 percent every game but the jury is out whether he is going as well.

Brooks has been one of our best and most consistent players all year but some peoples memory's last less than 7 days here.

I have no idea if it would work but I would love to see Nathan and Brooks play together but not sure how it would happen with Reynolds in the team/bench/hospital.

Agree

Garner tackeling technique gone out the window since playing first grade wasn't like that at isp. Think he still struggling mentally with nrl.

Yes I agree Brooks has been consistent with having absolutely no idea what to do in the red zone it has been happening for years time to move on and employ someone that can achieve consistency in that area . For a player that has played over 100 games and still as of last night can not at least do the basics of a half in the attacking zone ..time is up !

Interesting quote from Gus on 9 last night

“I have an agreement with Nathan. If one day he says, ‘I want to go play with my dad’, let’s make it happen. I’ve got no problem with him going to play with his father whatsoever."

Im sure there is a method to what he’s saying. I got a feeling he knows what Nathan is going to do.

What should he be doing..seemed OK the two weeks prior..

He wasn't even that bad…and only one who really threatened to score or set someone up to score..lol

his short kicking was off found legs on another day like the majority of the year he gets better results...we had a lot worse performers than him last night..

People can't wait to stick the boot into the kid..
