The jersey makes Robbie look like he is wearing a kitchen/BBQ apron. Jerseys might be good use at TigerTiger.

Many look at the WT colours as gold and black, the white is lost for many and by having a predominantly white jersey the club can better get across that the colours of the Wests Tigers are gold, black and white, to highlight the Wests Tigers identity they had to get away from having a predominantly gold (orange) jersey and a predominantly black jersey as these two colours are still perceived as being Balmain by some, and using white as the dominant colour on one does this.

I never quite understood the view (and arguments) of some that it was the 'gold' colour and not the 'orange' colour for the Wests Tigers. I always saw it as orange/black (Balmain Tigers) and white/black (Western Suburbs Magpies); hence orange/black/white (Wests Tigers). Humphreys is quoted as saying its 'orange'… “With this in mind, our 2011 jerseys are bold and highlight the properties that we do not share with any other club – the tiger pattern and the colour orange”. That will probably ignite the argument again...

Anyway, the jersey designs are growing on me as well; however I actually prefer the orange that was on the 'leaked jerseys' better. It seemed lighter and suited it well; whereas the orange they have gone for appears to be (dare i say it) a dark fluoro orange...

I'd love to know why designers over complicate things. Keep it simple.

Usually its because the client thinks they are the designer and ends up telling you what they want something to look like…. this looks as though it might be one of those cases hahaha

I can't get my head around these jerseys, in my opinion they're awful. They main one looks like an apron and i feel no conection to the white one.

Well done WT on getting Harry on board. From what i know the back sposor might be a big name as well.

They definitely polarise opinions! Personally I like them.

I especially like the fact that by the sounds of things the players had a lot of say in the cut and also the colour (the away one especially). ie. they are designed to be good to play football in which should be a fairly important factor.

Now just waiting for them to go on sale. Hopefully in time for the gimme gimme gimme it's christmas season.

New polo???

Yuck.

"One of the issues has been that the black jumper was seen as a throwback to Western Suburbs and the orange one was seen as a throwback to Balmain," Humphreys said.

"We kind of want to get a bit beyond that now and create something that is a Wests Tigers identity rather than a throwback."

If they want to get ''beyond that'' I guess this means we see no more heritage strips.

There will be Heritage strips Ink. The club wants to celebrate the rich history of Balmain and Western Suburbs in games against St George and South Sydney is what I remember reading

I guessed we would have…...makes me think his description then of these new jerseys is just a load of bollocks, I guess he had to say something about it...it was a stupid comment
If we wanna get away from the Wests Balmain thing then maybe we should wear red, blue, purple or green?

Yeh dunno how the main jersey is moving away from all that ?? Can someone explain?

… And I don't believe the players had anything to do with the design. What Harry wants, Harry gets...

Major sponsorship used to worth around $500k/pa a few years ago. Surely it must be higher these days.
If the broadcast rights have skyrocketted from 10's of millions a few years ago to close to a $1bil next year, surely major sponsorship must have grown by at least SOME amount.
does $750-$1mil/pa sound about right?

I don't think it was a stupid comment by Humphreys at all. He obviously wants to create an identity of its own for Wests Tigers and he feels this can be achieved through the use of 'tiger stripes' and 'orange' (as no other team in the NRL boasts these attributes). Yes we share the same animal mascot and colours of that of the Balmain Tigers; there is no escaping that fact. Neither is there escaping the fact that tigers are orange, black and white (have you ever seen a red, blue, purple or green tiger? I surely haven't). 11 years ago both teams chose to amalgamate by majority vote, with the name / mascot / colours being chosen then as well. I can't see any of these things changing. We are no longer Balmain Tigers or Western Suburbs Magpies, we are WESTS TIGERS; have been for 11 years and will be for decades to come!

However, Humphreys and the NRL also know it is important to acknowledge, remember and respect where WESTS TIGERS has come from and the heritage that is associated with it. This is achieved through each season through the 'heritage round' and 'heritage jersey/s'; and through the celebration of significant games of past years whose anniversary falls within the season (e.g. in 2011 the 50th anniversary of the 1961 Grand Final between Western Suburb Magpies and the St George Dragons will be replayed and celebrated).

You bet there will be. Will be interesting what design they choose as the game against Saints at the SCG is meant to celebrate 50 years since Wests played Saints in the 1961 grand final (we played again in '62 and '63). 1961 was the first year that Wests wore the black jersey with a white V, that is now so synonymous with Western Suburbs. Was also the first jersey to bear the magpie emblem.

ps. the white jersey brings back memories of the 70's to me, when wests would occasionally don the white jersey with black V.

Wests wore the white with black V as their alternate throughout most of the 80s & 90s as well (along with those LG ones that had a trianglular patch of horizontal stripes on one side of the abdomen in conjunction with the V above)!

Thanks ink - that last line of mine was in response to a query in another post re: UD's potential to upgrade to major sponsor.

I actually did not think it would be them because I didn't believe that they would accrue too much material benefit from the sponsorship given the industrial market in which they exist. It benefits companies of that ilk (like JFTA) to get their name in the marketplace in the **short term** but does that recognition into sales in the long term!

That is why I made the open statement that I did (with a big query hanging over it regarding perceived ROI)!

On that ROI note - I cannot understand how an 80% workplace coverage/closed-shop style union like the CFMEU gain any capital through their sponsorship with the Raiders!????! And how they internally justify using revenue from membership to spend in this fashion must be a thing of pure unadulerated brilliance/bulls**t!

Ink - back to your posts - and your statement that the jerseys will grow on you - I 100% agree!!! There is nothing that makes a jersey look better than arms holding the Premiership trophy!!!

In 2005 we were in our first year of a new jersey with a new sponsor - I hope that is a good omen for 2011!!

Further to my previous post - the 2005 jerseys were terrible at first sight - but by the first week in October even the fading honeycomb-styling looked …. like victory!!!!!

(to paraphrase Robert Duvall in "Apocalypse Now")
