New jerseys confirmed, Harry is back!

Three weeks till kickoff and you still can't buy the jersey.

This is just unprofessional.

Humphreys must really be asking for top dollar for back of jersey sponsorship rights. The fact that he chose to forgo Xmas present jersey sales and Jan-Feb-March birthday jersey sales is an interesting decision. He has really blundered in my opinion I feel it's unprofessionalism in the extreme. The kit should by finalised by September - October each year so it can be on the shelves asap to capture November and December birthdates as well as Xmas. I would undersell the back of jersey rights to gain the jersey sales and then work on the 2012 back of jersey rights now.
What is even more disturbing is that he has knocked back one organisation who have offered a reasonable amount of cash and this has left that organization scratching there heads.
This is the same man who looked straight down the barrel of the camera with a straight face and said the club wanted to show it's own identity away from Wests and Balmain and then unveils the main jersey being orange with a black V and black shorts. No ticker. He just should have said what we all know, that being the main sponsor wanted that. If he said the truth it would have been easier to swallow and accept.
Sure Humphreys has done good things for the club but he has blundered greatly also and running a football team is not the same as running an airline company. The fans are his direct stakeholders and he must be more truthful to the fans and deliver a better service than what he has.

Guarantee that any rear of jersey sponsorship would make more money than potential jersey sales in the three months from December.

I would have like to see the kit on sale earlier but it really doesn't bother me.

I was wondering when you were going to lay the boot in. Post is as I expected from you BB.

I agree with HT and the Bug, it's history repeating… You couldn't buy the heritage jerseys until about round 8 last year...

Can anyone confirm whether it is actually the WT heirachy or X-Blades holding up production?

I agree with everyone here…. Smeg hits the nail on the head, but Humpty does deserves a gee-up if he cant manage these simple 1% items for the club.

Go get him Bug!!!

Three weeks ago Nathan Ross told willow and i that they were just finalising the back of jersey sponsor
He also said that they hoped to have it out by the Foundation Cup but knew that wouldn't happen.

personally the jersey can stay in the scrapheap it came from and we can play in the heritage strips all year!
I'm not sure where all this support for them is coming from because everyone i've heard talking about it seem to agree that it's the Worst.designs.ever

Its unprofessional smeg, and very poor marketing.

Revenue from merchandise sales is an extremely important source of income for the club. As shit as the jerseys may look, they would have sold like hotcakes over Christmas, and in the new year.

I can see your point hybrid. Our marketing department was actually at it's best when Longmuir was at it's head. it is a pity he was ever moved to the CEO spot in that respect because he was a true asset in that area.

On a personal level I am not fussed but I can see the reason for yours and others concern

It's pointless bringing out a jersey that is incomplete. It will only end up having some crappy looking vinyl thing tacked on the back when the sponsor is finalised. If they release one with out it people will just end up complaining that they didn't get the same jersey the players are playing in.

That is true TTS. But the point is the 2011 sponsorships should have been done and dusted by now and he should be working on the 2012 sponsorships

This might be true as they would have had to of sold 4000 jerseys in between Oct - March to come anywhere near the money they would make from sponsors but the point is client satisfaction and the Wests fans have not received it. I know people who are holding off anyway and who want to buy the Heritage jerseys anyway instead of the putrid new ones.

Firstly I don't get the fascination with the daggy old heritage jerseys. Life is about moving forward.

Finish the jersey then release. The only way to do it. anyone that buys the 2011 and then sees it updated shortly after will feel duded. This way is less than ideal but will reduce headaches long term.

Ps - Isn't it true that the club only makes $$$ if people buy directly from it as opposed to almost nothing form jerseys bought out in retail land.

Well the jerseys are available for preorder on the website.
No mention of being incomplete re back of shirt sponsor.

But does state it will be 2-4 week wait!

I dont know how this club expects people to become members and to do it now so they can win money only to treat its members and lowly fans like this!
The possibility of not having the current years jersey until round 2 is utterly ridiculous!

Maybe i do just buy from rebel this year then

I wrote an email to the club complaining earlier today about how late the jerseys are and that after being told the back of jersey wouldnt be on it they conveniently forget to mention it on the website

I believe that's true, isn't that why they always offer discount vouchers when you take a membership… So that it'll encourage direct sales as well as offer a value add to the memberships?

Also this just gave me a thought... IF the jersey was ready too early, say, in time for Christmas, yes there would be a lot more jersey sales but they would all (or mostly) happen through retail land, where they'd see little to no real money.

However if you hold off until close to the start of season a few significant things happen:

1\. There will be more people holding membership discount vouchers (since memberships increase exponentially as the season approaches) that haven't bought their jersey yet.

2\. These people, and even those without vouchers that have just been waiting for the jersey to be finalised, might just feel its more convenient to grab the jersey at the first home game (again more profit than retail)

3\. Specifically this year, when there are high hopes for a team to go really well, the price of sponsorship increases as the season approaches. Clubs with low prospects should take the early offers because it gives them certainty. Clubs in the position we're in have the upper hand as the season draws nearer.

Think about this... Let's assume we're negotiating with McDonalds. The marketing person in charge of this deal at MD's might have very little knowledge or interest in NRL, but does identify that that team that came 3rd last year would be a good move for them. When they go to do more research their first point of call will be the media, papers, internet and general chatting.

Negotiating in early December to finalise a deal before Christmas will mean very little hype will be going on during the negotiations. Finalising it now for example means that the marketing personal can look up NRL.com, read the papers, watch the betting futures and see that all signs point to Tigers being there for the big one come October... So when they're ironing out the final details, we can hold firm and confidently say: "There are PLENTY of other lining up, take it or leave it..."

I don't know if the Tigers marketing dept are as savvy as all this, or if it's inefficiencies or what... But being in marketing, these are the lines I'd be thinking along...

ThaMVP I think you are being too nice to them. The NRL makes money from the licensed product and they would be spewing Wests Tigers product is yet to be released. If Humphreys comes out with a million dollar back of jersey deal then I will be the first to congratulate him. But I think they must have hit some hurdles of one type or another .

Yeah that's fully possible, maybe even likely, but geez that'd make me shake my head… especially with the power being fully in favour of us IMO

If they somehow WERE thinking along the lines I mentioned, they wouldn't care about the NRL being pissed (unless there's harsh reprimand, which I can't imagine there would be)

Maybe I am giving them too much credit and its more down to inefficiencies... (I wonder if I can send them my resume :smiley🙂
