Auckland-born Samoan international prop Martin Taupau has signed a three-year deal with the Wests Tigers after acknowledging his opportunities at his current NRL club are limited.

The 23-year-old played the first seven games of the Bulldogs 2013 campaign but has not featured since Kiwis front rower Sam Kasiano and English enforcer James Graham returned from injury and suspension respectively.

Taupau debuted for the Bulldogs in 2010 and has played only 17 games over 3-1/2 seasons, meaning a cross town move to the Wests Tigers next year is appealing.

The 111kg forward represented the Australian Schoolboys in 2008 and is also a former Junior Kiwis captain.

"Martin is a powerful player who will add plenty of size and strength and depth to the important front row position,'' said Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter.

Taupau made his test debut in April against Tonga – a preparation game for October's World Cup in Europe.

He was contracted to the Bulldogs until the end of 2014 but the club granted him an early release so he can join the Wests Tigers in November for pre-season training.

Saw a tweet from our new CEO tonight answering a question, maybe someone else whose more familiar with Twitter can post it, but he said that the last couple days have been positive signing players and sponsors and that there is more good news on the way but to stay patient. Interesting.

Good signing, big boy who already has shown a glimpse of what he is capable of. The more competition for spots there is, the higher the standard goes. This signing will keep everyone on their toes.

_2 players, one gold sponsor in 2 days. Not a bad effort from all @Wests_Tigers. More good news coming but patience needed._

I think the first bit '2 players, one gold sponsor in 2 days' he is referring to what's already happened, not 2 additional players

Think it was posted at about 7 o'clock, so after.

Phil, i hope not. Given his form and the length of time remaining on his contract there are more important things that need to be done before upgrading his contract.

Hopfully another signing just so on twitter Frank Pritchard wife tweeted he didnt get a contract year and his pissed off mabe we can snare him now.

Massive potential this guy; just needs the right coaching, environment etc which you'd think he would've had at the Dogs. Lots of players in front him there though so maybe the opportunity at WT might be what ne needs.

Good news for us!

If I recall correctly, you seemed to be in the know regarding James Gavet. Any more news?

Hard to get a bead on it; spoke with him last week and he said 3 to 4 weeks still - seems to have been on that timeframe for a couple of weeks.

He and Marty were tipped to bring the mongrel at the Dogs - didn't quite eventuate with Tolman, Graham, Kasiano and Payne (& sometimes Finucane) ahead of them at the time!

Can understand Taupau's wanting to move.
