New WT Coach To Be Announced Shortly

He really shouldn't be coaching his mates either, has trouble written all over it. Will be interesting to see where he's at as a coach in two or three years time. People often make out that lengthy apprenticeships have to be served before going on to being a first grade coach, but Payten had a remarkable insight into the game as a player, so we may see him as a FG coach (not necessarily at WT,) sooner rather than later if he develops at a rapid rate.

Yep. No way should he coach people he played with last year. No Way. Payto was one of the boys. Went for beers with them, went to the cricket with them etc. Thats fine by the way, but the majority of these boys will have to be gone before Payten can take over. Paytens probably answered to Benji/Robbie for years and years, would be hard for it to be vice versa.

I also agree we don't need one of the boys types. Walters and Brown could be these types.

Why has Daniel Anderson's name not even come up?

Anderson is the absolute standout candidate for coach for WT of those who are affordable & available!!!
Outstanding & recent track record in NRL (aside from his last year when Eels management thought they cld do better).
After him theres daylight….then Folkes/Taylor /Brown/Payten,all of whom are high risk for one reason or another..
Parrish has been a failure in UK,Walters is a mini version of Kearney who is totally unproven & riding off Bellamys coat tails..both no go.
Gotta be Anderson if the price is right(which it can be if $$ linked to performance)

Love this topic, like most others, utter BS and rumour.

Apparently the coach was being announced 'shortly'. I just hope that same time frame isn't used if something happens to me and an ambulance is called.

'It will be here shortly'….I can hear it now.

Really hope its not Walters. Went to Catalans after Potter had them on the up and then was sacked and Trent Robinson came in and fixed his mess

from the sydney morning herald this morning -

Manly are poised to bolster their pack with the signing of St George Illawarra forward David Gower. However, there is still uncertainty on how the Sea Eagles will line up next year. Salary cap pressure means the club may have to offload Brent Kite, but his switch to Wests Tigers is not a done deal. Parramatta-bound Manly assistant Matt Parish is the favourite to take over from Tim Sheens. Should he be successful, it is understood Kite is unlikely to figure in his plans at the joint-venture club.

How would you feel if you logged on to your computer tomorow morning and the first thing you see when you open this website is Wests Tigers sign Michael Jennings, Mose Masoe and Mick Potte. Then the next day you see Robbie Farah has resigned with Tigers for 3 years.

Don't like the sound of this. Seems like Parish is already figuring things out for when he takes over next year - arghh!

"There was also mention of a secret benefactor making balmain's contributions to WT"

This came from another post..if Alan Jones is the benefactor then he will get what he wants..and what he wants is Parish..

You can't tell me Parish is the best candidate for the job , with what's available… :crazy

I can't too you who would be best and either can anyone on here because we haven't interviewed all the candidates or even met them all. Parish has links to both ses of the joint venture and has been coaching for 20 yrs now so he obviously has some positive especially give the quality of coaches who have employed him as an assistant and the clubs and nsw state of it in team. I'm not sure he is the best candidate but I don't know. I think perhaps people seem to be saying no to parish without any genuine reason why he wouldn't be a great coach

i think Folkes is the best coach available, his record speaks for itself, has a proven record, knows what culture is required to be a succesful team .
I remember reading an interview that Farrah did 2 years ago and he believed that Folkes was the major mentor in turning the belief in the club that got us in that winning streak and he regarded Folkes as having a brilliant football brain.
I'm not saying Parish will be no good but when you interview people for a certain position you look at there track record and he ticks all the boxes for me , that would be my choice…

Parish would be well down my list but if you believe what you read he is odds on for the job. I think if he gets the job it will be his price tag as much as his ability that will get him over the line. Anyway Iam sure nothing has been set in concrete just yet. I would give it to Daniel Anderson tomorrow if it was my call

i agree with the cheapest bit ….

I wouldn't be surprised if we are going to make a big name signing as well and we will announce that at the same time as the new coach. Will take some of the media scrutiny away.

I'd be surprised if it was Alan Jones. It's not like he is a Balmain fan or anything. He just coached them for a few years. Infact judging by what he did to the team back then, i'm more inclined to say he hates Balmain. lol
