Can someone please explain how manly are preparing to offer TWO of the biggest nrl contracts ever to Foran and DCE and we have cap pressure despite all the players that we have let go.

sure thing, we have Chris Lawrence, Moltzen and Galloway taking up the better part of a million dollars by themselves. This year we would have had anasta, blair and fulton taking up the full million (not trying to bag fulton he is a deadset legend but due to his unfortunate injuries he was not useful at all i felt).

Ok,Ink,Cos,FT,I completely see where you are coming from with your input to this thread…..

I have also said in another thread that the team looks more inexperienced than experienced, however I'm willing to let JT sort out the team to field in 2015 and rely on his coaching and co ordination to select the fittest, keenest players who want to play for the club and fans..They have to want to be there and play consistently week in week out in one of the most gruelling comps in the world..not an easy tasked as has been proven with our run of injuries...hopefully the new developments in the club such as S&C,new board and assistants in the coaching department will see a more professional outfit on the field and off it..a whole new mindset throughout the entire club, granted we will not win every game every week but the young guns will gain heaps of experience the more they get on the field, hopefully the senior players will help by leading by example and backing the younger ones up as best they can...I'm trying to be positive and look to a much improved WTs team as well as coaching staff and admin,we are going to get beat a few times but as long as right across the board from players through to admin they do their very best...then I will be pleased...

Unfortunately there's gaining experience, and then there's ending up with a bunch of burnt out and busted, humiliated kids.

We are talking about our cap for 2015 and beyond. One months ago Blair,Thompson and Austen were in our 2015 cap, now they are not and we still seem to be struggling with our cap. The question has to be asked if these players had not requested a release, how in hell were we going to balance the books.

I still suspect we are clearing space to strike if and when the right player comes on the market. Of course the only other explanation is we are very tight for dollars and are using part of the NRL grant to pay coaches and admin staff. Nothing would suprise when you consider what a basket case the club has been in the past few years

Let's hope that doesn't happen guyofthetiger,JT may show us his worth as a coach… and injuries are few and far between...

I am very much inclined to believe the latter explanation. If the club is waiting for the right player to come on the market they are leaving precious little time for this scenario to take place. Pre-season training has been on for over a month and trials will begin in early February. In March we will begin sending a team, a large portion of which will comprise young inexperienced players, into a season long battle with the best the NRL has to offer. It is difficult to feel happy about this.

I think people should forget about thinking that there is some hope of a player coming in for 2015, unless SBW wants to come back to League

And he is happy to play for only $100,000 a season. lol

Exactly. I hope I'm wrong , but it's one thing to bring in a couple of young blokes if your team is playing well or is a strong team , but to rely on a bunch of young guys , as we look like doing , is asking for trouble. Sure they may start ok , but an NRL season is a long time for them to keep up the intensity needed, week in , week out.
Like I said, I hope I'm wrong.

"How many roads must a man walk down

Too many telegraph journos in here who can't see the forest from the trees. Yes our kids will make mistakes next season and yes that will probably cost us a game or two but our team across most of the park is superior to the 2014 version, and off the park its infinitely better.

You label people telegraph journos yet you have your black gold and white googles glued to your face & living off with the fairies. Unbelievable.

Sheens always said 50 first grade game before you can call yourself a first grader….I've run with that

It was one of Sheenius favorite quotes and probably one of the smartest

The label premiership favourites didnt sit well with me in 2011\. Somehow it just went against the grain.
All through the years Wests and Balmain have been battling clubs and todays version is no different.
We'll have our day in the sun again ….... probably not next year ........ but then again who predicted it in 2005 ........ apart from Tigergran that is.

"John Morris will be the next Cooper Cronk"…that was a classic quote from Sheenius.. :roll

The actual quote was John Morris can be OUR Cooper Cronk…as in directing the team around....Wonder what quotes Taylor will come out with that can be dragged up 10 years later to have pot shots at the bloke...

"I think he (Morris) can be our Cooper Cronk this year,'' said Sheens.

Pretty much the same thing Geo…either way, in hindsight it turned out to be a laughable proposition which is why its often referred to

I suppose we can refer to the old saying " you have got to start somewhere",2014 and 2015 will have been the young guys starting times and if they don't cut it after that, where will we be at…..honing some more younger guys that may or may not cut it...
This is the dilemma that often hits clubs,if we had plenty of money,do we try and buy a premiership like other clubs have tried or do we persevere with bringing in the young crop year to year in the hope of breeding our own premiership winners..
I reckon we need a mix of good experienced players and young guns ......have we got good experience to lead the way for them ?...time will tell,we won't win anything with half the squad in rehab year in year out either...
Money, good recruiting and good coaching are what's needed,I think we are on the way to recovery, the next couple of years will tell if we can climb to the top once again....
