Nofo off to Manly.......?

@balmain-boy Exactly, and this is what Madge needs to be looking at. Replacing say a $475k per season Nofo with a $200k per season Bradley - especially when the likelihood is we will be paying freight on Packer, Mats, Taylor and Reynolds.

Compare Thompson's efforts and value for money to that of Nofo. This is how the salary cap forces clubs to make hard decisions. I think we got it badly wrong years ago by letting Korobeite walk and keeping Nofo.. A winger who is strong with lightning pace is always the pick.

Would like to, but Nofa hasn’t had many opportunities this year. How many games has Corey made 200m in this year?

Wonder how many games JAC or Cotric have made 200 metres

Missed me point my good man ....seems like good finishers with speed are as or more important than metre eaters

Noffo makes good meters and loves the club are arguments you hear to keep him. They are valid.
Equally valid is an argument that he is a poor defender who is always caught out of position thus gifting a lot of easy meters and tries to the opposition.
He is an enigma in the way that even when he plays well, the team suffers for having him in it. Additionally, he is overpaid and spends a lot of time out of the team.
Sad to see a loyal player go but its the best move going forward for both him and the club.

The correlation in not making finals and the players that have been with the club for years is evident. A new crop of player needs to be injected into the roster as loving the club is not good enough ! Sometimes tough love needs to be dished out.

Maybe you should have picked this game

Nofoaluma double and we flogged them

Can't watch that stuff with Tedesco in it.

If we won the side could include Ted Bundy, Idi Amin, Stalin , Hitler , Mugabe and Jack the Ripper and it would be ok

Unfortunately that's not my quite point. I can look at Moses playing for Tigers and, in hindsight, feel revulsion that he ever wore our colours - but that's ok, it's in the past. Same as when Adolf Hitler played those 10 games on the wing for Balmain in season 1931.

But Tedesco, it just hurts to be frank. I mean I dislike him and I silently hope every match that he goes down with an ACL (I really do), but more than that, it's just so wrong that Roosters can take players like that off another club. It's not like Thurston or some other lack of talent recognition, or some salary cap tactical decision - Tigers wanted Tedesco, offered him a million bucks, but the Roosters just swanned in and took our best player, who was already getting quite close to being the best player in the comp, and now maybe is the best player in the comp.

Makes me sick in a sad way, esp on that day against Manly he scored 3 tries and I was there, thinking "this guy will make the difference in the future, we just need a little more quality about him".

And now I think I am seeing that quality emerge, of a tougher and gradually more consistent Tigers side and a coach who knows what he is doing - and Tedesco is gone. Turns out the guy you put your hopes in, he's always been a bit of a show-pony and a revisionist; turns out that the heel he did on the Raiders is actually typical Tedesco behaviour and he just looks out for Number One when it comes to contract time.

Turns out the bloke you cared about least - Luke Brooks - is actually the only one who stuck around to try and make a difference. He's the one we rely on now, and for his troubles and despite Dally Ms, plenty of haters still.

I know one can say loyalty is dead and football is a business, but for fans it's not like that and I'd rather not be reminded that fancy clubs pull fancy signings. I'd rather Roosters not rub it in our face, when Cronk passes to Keary, then Latrell, who makes a line break and turns the ball inside to Tedesco for a try. And they all jump up and celebrate with one another, have a circle jerk and pretend like it's normal to have basically the entire Australian backline consolidated in one team.

It's not a business for me and Tedesco should be in this 2019 Tigers side helping us push into the finals, because he's our once-in-generation talent.

Butthurt much?

Thompson provides great value for money with good pace. We need more like him but bigger and faster. Being able to run the ball out is good but being able to score long distance tries is a facet we badly miss from our outside backs.

And if Thompson wants 300k due to his decent form, is he worth it then? The value proposition disappears if he goes from being on small change to decent cash. His value comes from his effort and the ability to manage a salary cap when you have players on low money that regularly contribute to your top 17 and aren't just squad fillers.

I get the feeling we offered another 1 year deal at about 180k. His agent said nope he's playing better than many others and deserves to get 350k, at which point we went Yeah nah....

Nof isn't worth 450k. He's not complete enough to earn that. Not his fault that we're paying him that much though, but it doesn't help his long term prospects at the club to be overpaid.

@balmain-boy If Thompson wants $300k I would tend to give it to him. If you divided the top 30 players against the salary cap, it’s still under the average salary and he plays above average almost every time he dons the black and gold. He is consistent, which is something we don’t get with every player in first grade.

You are right but I think the issue is we are stuck with 5-6 players who are on more than double of what they are worth (ET, Packer, Matulino, McQueen, Reynolds) and with that we really need to undercompensate with some cheaper guys.

Id like to keep Thompson but we have some squad issues we need to address and I can't really say without knowing how much we have etc. If those guys listed above were on there rightful prices, Id have no issues throwing 300k to CT.

@jirskyr This is a great post. Best in a while. Well said. I still feel disgusted when I see Tedesco in the Roosters jersey. I even have a hard time cheering for him in the sky blue.

@Roar_Power

Give him 2 years @ 275 a year

His bigger need is security at this stage of his career

Even ask his manager to try and find a small TPA ....

@tigerap

Hi the guy i know you told me big Ben Packer Reynolds and Taylor are being shopped around before it came out in the paper told me that the Tigers are chasing hard and close to signing a great young player from another club but wont tell me his name yet because he is still under contract for next year do you happen to know who he talking about ?
