In the days before mobile phones and pubtab....the TAB in burwood was down behind the police boys club...being only a kid at the burwood pub my old.man and his mates would all be getting me.to run down to.the tab to put thier bets on.

I used to go to the Tab many, many moons ago with my father late on a Saturday afternoon with a couple of big green garbage bags, empty the bins of all the used tickets and go home and go through them all. Usually found a couple of discarded winners but the big collect usually came if there was a protest or two during the day and people threw their tickets away without checking the protest result. It used to be called “emuing” - ie. the emu picking through the rubbish -but is barred now at both tracks and Tabs.

Hahah thats keen.
I was in Bankstown TAB once and backed this nag, midweek meeting...half the barriers opened a second or two before the other half ...declared a non race all bets refunded.
I had my ticket in my pocket and then noticed a few blokes picking up tickets off the floor and in the bins...searching frantically...all talking some lingo i dunno what.
There was a ticket face down on the counter where i was standing i just picked it up and looked at it...same nag i backed ...100 on the nose...back in the mid 80s...i just quietly put it in my pocket and walked out...caught the train to punchbowl where i was living and cashed them both in at the tab there...easiest 100 ever which was a decent whack for me back then ..
