CANTERBURY prop James Graham today became part of rugby league infamy, accused of biting the ear of Melbourne superstar Billy Slater in a volatile NRL grand final at ANZ Stadium.
In one of the greatest grand final scandals in the history of the game, the British international was alleged to have bitten Slater's left ear during a 25th minute melee.
Slater had no hesitation making an on-field complaint against Graham when asked by referee Tony Archer whether he wanted the allegation made official and placed on report.
"Yeah f--- oath," Slater replied.
"He bit me on the ear."
Archer noted Slater's ear was indeed bleeding from the melee and placed the incident on report.
The only saving grace for Graham remaining on the field was the fact officials did not clearly see the incident involving the first-year NRL player.

The allegation means Graham joins Canterbury's Terry Lamb in league's grand final book of scandalous low acts after he took out British great Ellery Hanley with a high shot in the 1988 decider.
Graham's incident occurred after Bulldogs players took exception to Slater's sliding challenge on winger Sam Perrett as he scored a superb try in the corner to level scores at four-all in the first half.
The melee erupted multiple times and spilled towards the boundary fence, with Graham running from some distance to grab Slater and appear to bite at his ear as their heads were beside each other in a tight grip.
Storm captain Cameron Smith was immediately furious when told of the incident and approached the referees demanding action.

"The last player that bit someone got 18 weeks," Smith said.
It is believed Smith was trying to reference former Bulldog Brad Morrin, who was banned for eight weeks in 2007 for a deliberate bite on Parramatta's Timana Tahu.
