NRL live streaming on mobile tablets... when?

So I read a few news articles of late about live streaming of matches will be available on mobile devices, tablets etc this season:

http://www.computerworld.com.au/article/444417/nrl_fans_get_live_match_streaming_mobile_tablets_from_2013/

Although am yet to find any information or apps pertaining to this supposed happening.

Anyone heard, read or seen any update information?

Also, http://www.nrl.livesport.tv/ shows that they will not be streaming the NRL in 2013.

So what is happening and when? I was hopeful of being able to watch the All Stars match this weekend… but looks like it won't happen.

According to this artcile http://www.nrl.com/fans-to-get-ultimate-digital-experience/tabid/10874/newsid/70510/default.aspx it will be through the offical NRL app on iPhone and Andriod. It doesn't look like there is a iPad version of the app though.

They would be crazy not to do something that people can stream on their computer or tablet. I mean who will really want to watch a game of football on their phone?!

I totally agree. Have been trying to find more info about it as I don't have fox but was hoping to watch Round 1 at least. Don't really want to watch on phone would rather link laptop up to TV and watch on the big screen.

Have you seen the Cricket Australia/Vodafone app on the ipad? It is amazing. I live overseas and have been watching all the games live on my ipad. Links up easily, don't need a VPN and the video quality adjusts to your bandwidth. Have easily been able to watch with 3g and wifi. The NRL and Telstra seriously need to emulate this!

Just got word that Setanta now has the rights for online streaming and that possibly those outside of Australia will be able to live stream every NRL match free of charge. This comes from another website forum, the person received this information from an email from NRL. An announcement should be made soon from NRL.

Fingers crossed!

That would be great. We watch the NRL via Setanta in Hong Kong, but it really is a poor cousin to Union when it comes to coverage as they show so many more Live Union games, so the only option is to stream.

Apparently Setanta will have every NRL game live.

Although I tried to subscribe tonight for a month so I could watch some Union (yes, I am desperate… visiting my wife's family in her hometown in China and I'm pretty bored), but couldn't manage to subscribe, kept getting error messages when I clicked on the links.

Anyway... I'm hoping Setanta and the NRL have something nice install for us all. They need to take a leaf out of Cricket Australias book, their ipad app with live streaming is awesome!

Hopefully we will see something soon for the NRL

Has anyone seen an update to this? Season is only 3 days away. Would have thought Telstra and NRL would have something out by now.

I emailed Bigpond and the NRL yesterday to follow this up. So far I received an email from bigpond.

Thank you for your email dated 04/03/2013 regarding accessing NRL content.

As of this date, we are still gathering more information as to what company has the NRL Management determined the video rights.

For us to able to assist you further, we also forwarded your query to the NRL Management Feedback Line.

:wtf I thought that it was announced that Telstra had the streaming rights and you could watch any game online this year? Obviously someone forgot to tell Telstra.

How surprising that yet again the NRL and Telstra have royally screwed the fans. :imp:

Hi tigerstu, I assume when you do get Setanta connected in China it will be the same as it is here in HK. Unfortunately, you won't get every game live as Union generally get the prime spots for telecasts, but they do show every game sometimes at odd hours.

UPDATE:

This is it… hopefully what we have all been waiting for:

http://new.livestream.com/nationalrugbyleague#

But only for those "outside" of Australia.

Live streaming of EVERY NRL game in 2013!

Sensational. Let's hope the quality is good and my internet speeds can cope!

If that link doesnt work, just try the live stream website and find nrl. It does work, but only available in certain areas. I'm currently in Malaysia and it doesn't work, but from US it does see, to work.

Also, NRL finally released the new app today… But only for iPhone and android phones, no iPad version. This one also costs as you have to pay the subscription, but can use it anywhere I think.

So looking good for us to have something. Just another hour to go and hopefully should be watching kick off.

Also if you have foxtel you can use the Foxtel Go app to stream Fox Sports 3 to your iphone or iPad.

No foxtel, I think many of us are overseas, hence trying to find ways to access coverage.

Watched tonights game through livestream and it was pretty good. My internet is not great and it dropped out a few times, but I then had to go to work where there is a better connection… they archive the games, so could access it and watch again no problems. Even have HD stream if you bandwidth can handle it.
