NRL RD 1 2021..*Spoilers..

There are going to be plenty of massive blow outs this year. A team has a bad day against a team like Souths or the Storm when they are on song and they could crack 70.

The game is so quick, Souths tonight we’re lucky the Storm ran out of petrol and lost all there shape in attack. On the other hand Souths showed how easy it is to score when you get a roll on.

A positive tonight, the ref did not over do the six again

As many have noted here there is a question mark over the quality of the Souths forward pack. They were dominated in the first 20 and it was too far back from there. Now Burgess out for a period.

It's a good pack, they just weren't in it to start. Once they woke up they held their own against Melbourne. They were shell shocked by the pace of storm out of the gates I reckon

Will be interesting to see, I thought Storm's errors let them back in.

Nothing better than seeing the Souff Sydney turds kick off with a loss. I'm still trying to work out if Cody Walker played, his name was on the team sheet but he was no where to be seen

Any news on Burgess?

On the Matty Johns late show there was an update saying souths believe it's just a burner

That’s good news. He looked in a bit of bother

I thought the ref ruined the game when he awarded a penalty to Melbourne for Gagai's tackle on Hughs
He was committed and it was harmless and absolutely no malice in it
It's not like he came in 2 seconds later
If Gagai didn't tackle him he could have run through
What was he ment to do stand back and watch it
It gave Melbourne an 8 point lead and not enough time left for Souths
With a 6 point lead the game was still interesting
I thought that penalty was SOFT
It took the wind out of souths sails

Souths shot them selves in the foot heaps of times
There was still 20mins to go and plenty of time after that dud call.

The last 20mins the Storm where tanked, Souths just stuffed up. Forward passes, stupid offloads, handling mistakes, Benji hogging the ball with indecision, bad passes etc.

Ref didn’t cost Souths the game.

This game was yet again an example of how a team when drilled and disciplined can deliver a performance that can topple most peoples favourites for the 2021 title.

The shows me that Bellamy is the true GOAT.

Madge is in the Bellamy mould and thankfully is building that same culture here.

Looking at the way the game is played i think the half back needs to play the whole field. There needs to be a link man on the ball at all times.

One of the reasons Benji looked ok was he was a little closer to the action than Reynolds and played a link role. He really didnt do anything to get the credit he got.

The kicker was in the air and Gagai made contact and wrapped his arms around his legs. No malice by Gagai and first contact was above the waist but he does grab the legs and tuck his arms around them.

Pretty straight forward penalty.

Going to be a very long season for people if this the kind of refs call they blow up about. There will be actual stuff ups, wait for them to blow up. Save your energy.

Thier bench has issues though . There’s no coincidence that thier performance dipped dramatically around the 30 min mark. With Smith and Solomona moving back to the bench , when grant and finucane come back , that should help them a lot .

Yes Hughs was in the air
Gagais timing was out by a split second
His arms Brushed Hughs
There was no actual grab of the legs unless I missed something
If Gagai pulls his arms away then all of a sudden its a shoulder charge and he gets a few weeks
You damned if you do and your damned if you don't in that situation
Just my opinion

Find a replay, both his hands/arms wrap or tuck around the legs. Just one of those unfortunate ones theyll pull up 9 out of 10 times.

Good game to watch - both sides made plenty of errors as to be expected first up. Apart from the first 20 minutes where Melbourne were unstoppable from there on Souffs were pretty much neck and neck. Melbourne definitely had trouble closing the game out - something they have been renowned for in the past. Brandon Smith was solid but will definitely be back in the 13 when Grant is available. To me he doesn't have the DH smarts like Grant. Overall i think Melbourne will come back to the pack as they won't be able to play the whole season like the first 20 minutes of this game. Souths were solid but will certainly struggle to win a premiership on that performance.

Storm were never going to lose. I don’t think they can go all the way, but who knows. They were missing a few. They’ll finish in the top 4 though...as usual.

Yeah mate, agree.
Class team regardless of player ins and outs.

My impression on Benji was he created a problem for Reynolds and played controller with Reynolds just playing the right and walker just playing left. Normally both rove around the park with Reynolds as the controller / link man.
