NRL TV rights:...$1.7 billion

If the difference between paying $135 a month means ads or no ads during Rugby League and that's it, I'll take the ads thanks.

All Fox really screens that isn't available on elsewhere is exclusive A-League and half the NRL. The American Football offering is pathetic at the moment. Plenty of college ball which is all well and good but I've had to wait until last Friday to see a Bengals game, and that's only because they were 7-0 coming into it and it was the Ohio derby against Cleveland.

I love watching Sydney FC run around and the Fox product is very glossy and well produced, but I'm sorry to say it isn't worth $135 a month to me.

My response was to Happy saying Fox would take a big hit because they lost the rights to the EPL…He did not mention other sports and their coverage..If for eg you are a fan of test cricket you get foreign series on Fox as well

My point ...which is one of points in Roy's article is that the new deal if it comes to fruition would be Fox having simulcast rights for All 8 NRL games not just 4 Live games...as Ghost pointed out $50 for the sports package that has All NRL games live would see and increase in subscribers that would off-set any losses they may suffer because they lost the EPL...

Of course this is only a personal choice...

I reckon the NRL draw might influence many of us one way or the other , but the EPL thing is a biggie for me

Don't know what FT is getting all flustered about , not if Leeds are going to be back anytime soon LOL

And then to see them drop back just as quickly as they arrived

never had foxtel, not planning on getting it. i stream all my games on livestream anyway, even the ch 9 ones since there's no ads

unless im at the pub or the game obviously.

would love to see some embracing of online streaming in 2018 though. use that technology and broaden the NRLs reach, maybe get more money too. Imagine Netflix for sports, instead of onselling rights to TV the NRL do all the ad breaks themselves and keep all the money for players and the game.

TV is an outdated model. No one watches it anymore like they use to. Tv shows and movies are downloaded and streamed. Why wait months to watch something when you can watch it with the click of a button? The only thing that TV has going for it is rubbish shows like The Voice that are on live. Everything else you can access on the internet, including live sport streams. I think TV will be the equivalent of the wireless in 20 yrs.

I seen an ad for 60 Minutes the other day advertising some of the best footage ever captured of Killer Whales. Why wait a week to see this when you can simply Youtube it whenever you want. Even the way TV presents itself is so out of touch.

telstra nrl digital pass?

When all's said and done you will find that the rights deal will be significantly more than the $1.7bn that was originally thrown about.

The NRL and Smith/Grant have played this very well (unlike what news corp rags are printing) and still have much time to ponder for the remaining cash, they definitely hold the Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon cards.

Everyone knows that the technology factor is adding to the remaining piece of this deal and that emerging trends and tech is pushing up the value of other bidders against Foxsports. This can only be good for the deal as value increases.

This deal will probably be the last of the traditional fta channels being big players in the market due to the on demand nature of viewing. Interesting times ahead.

Why wait for round 1, 2016 ?
Just YouTube it NOW.

livestream is a million times better, but you need to pretend youre not from australia
