NRLW to get its first Transgender player next season -Updated

NRL needs to be more inclusive of everyone we do not want to be like the AFL turning away trans athletes and the viewership of the wom kens comp has gone down big time since its 2022 not 1822.

A smart step in the right direction 🙌🙌🙌
Your kidding. Destruction of real women's sport. Ask your daughters, wives and or girlfriends what they think.

Trans women are not real women. They don't have a cervix, can,t have children, no periods etc etc.

Let's not import this crap.

You can be generally supportive of the issues transgender people encounter and still have a nuanced opinion on why you believe this is not a good idea. The only real equaliser is a trans league where trans athletes can participate.
Of course you can and I am supportive of those issues. But like I said, this is about biological sex, not gender identity. This is not just not a good idea, it’s dangerous for the women and and reckless for women sport as a whole. And we’ve got people in this thread, who clearly didn’t pass year 10 biology, saying pretty much “sure why not?”.

The entire premise behind this absurd idea is not wanting to hurt the feelings of the less than one percent at the expense of safety and fairness of the 99 percent.

The NRL policy according to the DT is similarly nuanced . I was interested to read Lauren's views on the initiative and hopefully the NRL policy provides sufficient protections for all parties.

My main NRLW concern for 2023 is that we have a Wests Tigers team included in the comp. We do great things in the women's side of things and should be next cab off the rank for 2023.

Such a controversial topic yet.. such a clearly black and white subject.
No offense Intended to anyone, but if science has proven an advantage in many athletic areas with the whole Male V female sporting debate, it’s that males have a somewhat… actually, NVM.

I am agreeing with you?

I can't say I'm fan of it and it has nothing to do with equality. If a trans female athlete has undertaken complete gender transformation (I mean complete, not just growing some boobs, growing hair and wearing a dress) and is taking medications to completely surpress the testoserone levels then there may be grounds for inclusion. It also becomes a grey area if she is say 6"6' and 140kg as physically she's likely to severly hurt her much smaller opponents.

Having said that the vote should come from the players not a board. All current players should ultimately decide if it was to be approved as it's them who'd be playing against any potential trans athlete.

A reminder that the NRL has a policy regarding this:

People are free to partake in discussion of this sensitive topic, mindful of the fact that we echo the NRL's stance: bigotry is not accepted on this forum.

Several posts in this thread have been deleted and a couple of warnings issued (one leading to a suspension)
That policy clearly states 3 principles:

1. Equality - ensuring that any person who wants to participate in Rugby League is provided with that equal opportunity.
2. Social Justice - is about ensuring all people receive a “fair go” by addressing the needs of marginalised people and groups in the community.
3. Community values - ensure we take a respectful approach to difference and diversity between people to ensure they are treated with dignity and courtesy.

How can these principles be upheld when the equal opportunity and fair go of women in their own category be held to ransom by the very minority few? Further to that, I read nothing above that is even boardering upon bigotry. Facts are facts.

No mate.

Respect free speech, whether I agree or not.

Just trying to keep the forum respectful of others.

Easy to be tuff when one is largly anonymous

Just a FYI here guys.

Captain free speech here banned me for telling him to pull his head in. Precious much?

Also, on being anonymous. Is your real name Spartan? We’re your parents big fans of Laconian land forces from 600bc? Maybe but I’d say you are also…somewhat….anonymous.

This just adds to the stigma. The fact a couple of transgenders are competing doesn’t outweigh acceptance of transgenders as a whole. I don’t see all these people outraged over a few trans athletes getting a supposed advantage being affected by the suicide rate of trans people which would be considerably higher than a few a few competing in women‘s sport.
so a woman who has aspired to be part of a team or represent her country or state in any sport misses out because a born male decides to say he is a woman, yeah right ever thought about how unfair that is?
