NSW Cup Round 1 Results & Discussion

Ooh I forgot to mention that Gower was making metres all day and I was really impressed with Fafita number 2,he is very agile for a big man and has a dynamite step and palm.

Once he gets fit he could be a good prospect.

Just watched the replay on Fox and thaught the only player who you could say is knocking the door down for the top grade is Arana Taumata. This bloke can make a line bust out of nothing, i`m not sure how best to fit him in our top side, but he is a very classy footballer who is far too good for Premier League. I`ve seen a fair bit of Meaney and is is a good solid footballer, but besides his goal kicking, I couldn`t say he`s as good or better than any of our current first grade backs. I do agree that David Fifita isn`t all that far behind his brother, both sensational prospects imo. Lazarus was very good for basically his first game in 3 seasons, but i`d like to see him do a bit more, particularly in defence, before saying he is going better than Robert Lui. Was disappointed Mataka didn`t make more of an impact, but still a big fan of his. Gower played strong as always, but I didn`t see anything to make him a must selection in the top grade just yet. Where did John Clayton come from ??? He is a unit, looks like someone with plenty of potential.

What we need to find is an interchange backrower who will hit hard when defending and cause a turnover, didn`t see anyone at BRET who really fit this description and I don`t know anyone at the Magpies who plays this way, but it`s the type of player we need to find from somewhere.

Simon, Watched the game again and I agree with your point on Meaney.it's a pity that Sheens didn't give him a go with training with the team in the preseason and sone trial games. He could have slotted on at fullback , kick better conversions than Benji , be safe under the high ball and let Moltzen play I. The halves with His roommate…..but No, Sheens gave those chances to Brown & Daniella.....anyway, we will see how good Tim Miltzen looks at fullback without Beau there thus week

But…..my MOM was the big FB Meaney.

Lazarus got Player's Player Award again. Also got a write up in the back section of this week's RLW.

PS….....lols at Mitch Brown.

Defends by running around in circles, dead set awful.

During the replay, did you see Brown even touch the ball?

Lazo looks sharp doesnt he????As does little sauce.

When they get their timing going they could be anything.

I just thought Meaney was the one that got us going up the middle when we were a little flat, but i can understans Lazo getting it.

Gave some awesome balls and how about the double kick for the try, thats was very Scotty Gale.

Poor ol Mitch Brown…...I cant recall him getting the ball once.

And his defense I would put in the "oh dear me" category.
