NSW Potential 2014 Side

Most of you selectors are picking the same players that have lost the last whatever years SOO.

If they pick players like, Gallen, Lewis, Pearce, Dugan, Carney, Uate, Mullen, Whatmough, Merrin etc. Say goodbye to this years series as well.

Let's not even start to talk about the coach.

I would not mind NSW declaring a Morris free zone. Hayne was a revelation at centre for Australia, so I would go with that if Dugan is fit.

Time for this bench full of backrowers crap to end, as well as dwarf legs playing up front. He had one dominant game there, but that is long gone and I don't think he is dining on much gazelle lately to help keep the protein levels elevated.

What's doing with Taufua?
I thought he was alright but this week he got chased down by Tagatese off an intercept? He had a running start, Tagatese had to turn around to chase him but he still got caught by a forward…

Tagatese just got on the field when it happened - he was as fresh as a daisy. Still it is unusual, he probably shouldn't have caught him. It's like Maguire hot footing it with Mead on Friday night - massive effort by him.

Is that what they call it now

Are you blokes conducting that City vs Country thing again this year while Queensland play a Trial against New Zealand?

Does Lewis still play Rugby League?

Don't forget Gidley played a full game the other week… He is a shoe-in now!

Exactly Watto! If NSW were serious about winning, both Lewis and Gidley would be nowhere near being considered for selection this year.

These guys that are chosen _every_ year, like Lewis, Watmough, Bird, Gallen and Merrin, whilst they're all good players in their own right, they ain't gonna win the series for us. They lack the impact of the Qld forwards although the selection of Fifita and Cordner is a step in the right direction, at least. Let's face it though, until we can field a stable spine and a dominant halves pairing (like Qld do every series) I'm afraid NSW are probably in for more of the same, sadly.

You obviously didnt watch last years origin series if you have doubts over Luke Lewis previously. He was NSW best forward in every game. However this year I wouldnt pick him cause hes lost a lot of weight with his radiation. But last year he was our best.

Actually I did watch it Jerry and you're right Lewis was one of NSW best. I'm not saying he isn't a good player, heck I was really hoping we were going to sign him up before last season! It's more the fact that he and the others I mentioned above have been selected, without question, for so many years now, yet they continually fail to have the same level of impact as the Qld forwards do, throughout the series.

It's purely my opinion, but I reckon the game plan revolving around these guys is becoming a tad stale. They are predictable, Qld know what to expect from them and they know how to counter it. As I said in my previous post, I think the selections of Fifita and Cordner, in particular, are a step in the right direction, as I believe they offer a bit more impact and unpredictability in their games than the old forward brigade are having, but we could use a couple more of these types of players in the rotation. Anyone got any suggestions?

All that said, our main problem really revolves around the spine. Qld's spine has been intact for what seems like forever. They've had minimal disruption there, except for when Locky retired - but even then they had a player of the calibre of Cronk come into the side with apparent ease. We've had numerous fullbacks and halves pairings and Farah has only really cemented his position at hooker in the past 2 years. Even this year NSW are still wondering who they will choose in these positions, whilst barring injury, Qld already have theirs in place. There are no guarantees who will be selected at fullback, five-eighth and half yet because there are just no standouts that demand to be selected, particularly in the halves.

I've no doubt that Brooks will be a dominant NSW halfback one day, but that's a while away yet. The question is who can we get in the meantime, cause i really don't think Maloney and Pearce will cut it again this year.

From what I heard it was on the specials board and came with some sweet sauce put together by a chef mate by the name of Darren Hibbert, if I recall correctly.

On the other matter, I think there is a representative round coming up.

After city vs country and rep round…

I've been doing a bit of thinking and with the exception of probably 3 positions I think NSW team is almost decided.

This is not a wish list, this is the team that I believe will be chosen.

5 pat Richards/Daniel tupou/George Taufua
6 josh Reynolds/ james Maloney
7 Mitchell Pearce

12 Beau Scott
13 Paul gallen

14 Aaron woods
15 Boyd cordner
16 Anthony watmough
17 ????

As you can see 5 and 6 could see a few different options , depending on Laurie's plans.

17 has been left open for a few reasons, but Laurie may go for a utility backrower such as Lewis if fit. Or may go for some more grunt in the form of Tim grant. He may even pull a swiftly and go for an X factor player in the form of idris or josh Reynolds.

This will all depend on game plan.

I believe our team is 85% picked already.

What's everyone's thoughts?

17= kurt gidley

cordner started for the kangarooos.. im prettty sure he'll be in the starting line up as well. think lewis will be there instead of beau scott. also, woods to start and not fifita.
lastly, i reckon dugan will be fullback with hayne on the wing.

that would mean gidley will be the goal kicker if maloney isnt playing at 6.

nsw side is always a conundrum.

Mullens has to be no6, you cant go into a SOO game without a very good kicking game and Mullens has a better kicking game than the other contenders.

Geez you reckon the selectors would still be looking at Gidley? And Lewis, who hasn't played a game all year? I'd be very disappointed if that was the case. Same old, same old unsuccessful combinations. I reckon NSW needs some fresh blood in the back row - I'd put Cordner and Guerra in the second row, with Gallen at lock and keep Hayne at fullback, where he plays his best football. Bird and Watmough can bugger off (maybe put one of them on the bench). The old short stocky bash brother back row thing is getting stale.

I think the only doors open are hinging on whether Maloney plays. If Maloney plays then Tupou will nab a wing spot and they'll run with four forwards on the bench. If Maloney doesn't play then I think Richards will get the wing spot, Sutton will play five-eighth with Josh Reynolds on the bench.

Whether Maloney plays is whether his form continues to suck and Sutton/Reynolds force Daley into dropping him.

100% sure that won't be the line up, but if they trot that side out they'd have my money over QLD.

Pretty sure Guerra is a Queenslander.
