Official: Esan leaving

Thanks Pom - appreciate your calming words when everything is up in the air so to speak.

Sounds like very amicable negotiations over Esan, (wish him all the best) which is good - hopefully we come out with something good seeing we were so obliging.

Young players similar to Hiroti and Brittain would be good for us to build (also because of limited funds).

I do hope the two talks that Madge had (and the cap money saved on Esan) will be enough to entice Zac Lomax to the Tigers - also another good young player that would be good for us.

@fibrodreaming All that tells me is he was never in the plans moving forward , if he was then an upgrade would of happened ...the coach and club did the right thing and released him for a pay day elsewhere.
Should of been dropped mid season .. an injured ankle does not equate to being lazy on field ! Harsh but tied of finishing 9th!

Lomax is 100% in the frame. Not over the line but confident.

Thank God we have a chance, I am a great fan of Lomax, can fill in for a number of spots, a good thinking player and can kick goals at a reasonable percentage.

I will keep my fingers crossed - thanks for the hopeful comment.

That’s good news. Are we still a chance for Brimson and/or Arrow?

Best news i have read in a few years(along with signing Madge)

That honestly surprised me so much, I did not expect that at all. Usually closer to the date, there would be more rumblings. I’m confused I don’t know how to react.

There's been rumours about it for weeks? Even the money was already on Esan to Cowboys several weeks ago, before any of the Matterson stuff came up.

Pretty simple as I see it--We need speed! The G F was won through speed.Storm, Raiders Souths have it. Esan needed 20 metre run up to get moving-something other teams were awake to.

Yeah, we need players like JAC, Tedesco, Pappenhauzen...............

Hang on................

Rather than insinuating players that we let go.

Maybe you could name someone with speed - that actually wanted to stay.

Well, JAC wanted to stay....Balmain fan.

Pap also...Balmain family.

Not criticising...just would be nice if we got these right for a change when deciding who to keep.

I doubt JAC was a Balmain fan. He was 5 years old when they played their last game.

Sorry, a meant a Tigers fan....but his family supported Balmain.

**"I've gone for the Tigers nearly my whole life," Addo-Carr said. "It was a great opportunity for me to come here and it was only a one-year deal, but I took it with both hands and have trained hard pre-season and it means the world to me.

"I never thought I would play for the team I've supported my whole life. We've got the team to make the top eight and we've just got to put it together.**

And JAC proved to everyone that "talk is cheap"

Ivan Cleary, Mitchell Pearce, Matty and Andrew Johns - all avid Balmain supporters as kids and it didn't mean anything when they became first-grade footballers. Then blokes like Moses who has very close family ties to Tigers but is in a hurry to leave when things aren't going quite his way.

Who you went for as a kid is meaningless, unless that club also happens to offer you a great deal. Then you can come out with the "oh always loved the Tigers" type comment.

Well, not really. He was told by Jason Taylor he was a fringe player and offered 140 000 to stay.
vs
Bellamy really wanted him.

Can you blame him???

What about the Sharks, who didn’t even debut him? Why do they always get a free pass with JAC. And his manager was told by Pascoe not to make any deals till he got back from a family holiday.

The Sharks had just won a comp with two wingers playing leading roles, carrying the ball back like freight trains as their first and second hit ups.

They get a pass.

VS

We decided Joran Rankin was a better winger...................................................................................................................................

WRONG. Tigers signed JAC in 2015, Sharks didn't win the premiership until 2016.

He's actually a Souths junior, so why do they get a pass as well? Sharks picked him up from Souths junior league, played him in NYC, let him go after NYC, Tigers took a 1-year option.

I won't cop the criticism - Jordan Rankin was considered a better winger for about 5 minutes, because JAC debuted in Round 7 for the Tigers. For a kid first year out of NYC, that's not so bad, and Rankin realistically had much better credentials.

JAC then played Rd 11-14, 18 and 24-26 - total 9 matches. He signed for Storm on 06/Jun/16, which was the day after our Rd 13 loss to Roosters. This means he played in 4 of the first 13 rounds of the season, but we all know he didn't negotiate and sign with Storm on the single day, so he had been negotiating with Storm for some time that season, at least within the first 12 rounds.

So you have a bloke who jumps ship within the first 12 rounds of his first year with a club who has already given him his first grade debut. That's not a reasonable amount of time to wait if you are actually a legitimate club fan and have ambitions of staying.

@Cultured_Bogan He trained at the Rooster's SG Ball team for a season before being cut. Moved to the Tigers and spent most of his junior years in our NYC team.

@Russell
Russell - Esan Marsters may not be a "local" junior but he played in our Holden Cup side 2015/16, and went on to Intrust Super Cup 2017 and NRL side in June 2017, so he has been around the place for a long while - and I think you'll find he debut at our club:relaxed:

@Russell He spent one junior year at the Roosters SG side, was cut, and then spent the rest of his junior years with our NYC team. I think you'll find he is our junior.

Thanks for the correction.

Well he is a nothing now - just another Cowgirl.

I'd like to wish him well personally, but a selfish part of me doesn't want him to go well because I'll have to read so much whining on here about it...

Meh, cant see this as player that leaves and comes back to haunt us. He can be NQ's rocks and diamonds journeyman.

I’m saddened to learn of this news. It must mean a new centre is on .....

Unlikely.

This paves way for Mbye.

An average centre on 900k?? Unless there is a long term plan to play him in the spine (and he is good) that is massive overs.

@Harvey

Totally agree.

I hope he is the man to help usher in the right culture.

This is the only way to turn the club around.

No surprises that Bellamy spent heaps of time with the New England patriots. They are all about the culture and the player comes second.

@THE_POM
Thanks for the info.
This fills me with confidence of the club as it sounds like we have right people approach in recruitment for once in these discussions.
As you said it was all mutual which is good and just, I’m happy that Esan got a good deal.
We’ll played.
If anyone remembers when Shannon Boyd signed with the titans it was a pretty similar approach. Was invited to ask around for long term contracts and once he got a good one from the titans, he went back to Ricky and tried to use that as a bargaining chip. Ricky apparently stood up and shook his hand and told him congratulations, take the deal, we can’t offer anything like that.

Having a player mutually leave a club to secure a bigger long term deal elsewhere is not the end of the world. Melbournes been doing it for years.
Bellamy has respectfully released, Blair, Proctor, Harris, McLean, Widdop to name a few and they were never found kicking stones.

Chins up those that are disappointed this is a good start to reshaping our roster with hopefully more news to come.
