Flanagan isn't that good of a coach. If anything he'd be up there with the worst and not enough for players to stay in my opinion. The bloke would be one of the dodgiest coaches and very lucky to be coaching again in the NRL with his history of cap rorting and drug scandals. The sharks did well to protect him for so long.

It’s kind of strange that wasn’t it McGuire that gave him a kiwi jersey? Injury or no injury he had a poor year and if it wasn’t for our lack of depth in outside backs, he would have been dropped. As somebody else pointed out the heat up in Townsville will make it tough off season for him. I guess we’ll find out come March next year how he has coped.

So our Centre stocks for next year are

Mbye
Momo
Talau
Jennings
Chee-kam as a backup

Hopefully Momo can continue to improve as with Talau.

I hope they look at another forward with Esan's money

Jennings is not centre stock.

He is a nothing.

Looks like the cafe a while ago and the chat recently with Zac Lomax could be the centre pairing with Momo. Luv it!!!!!

STGI would be mad to release Lomax. He’s a star in the making. Huge talent that would be a Wests Tigers move. I applaud the decision to let Martsers go he hasn’t earnt a massive upgrade he was signed on good money last time by Cleary who is t afraid of paying overs. Cowboys would have paid top dollar.

Yeah, but if we sign him for 2021, why would they spend money developing a player they won't keep?

I’m saddened to learn of this news. It must mean a new centre is on .....

Unlikely.

This paves way for Mbye.

And in any case momirovski is already a superior player in every way

Almost... when Esan was gong well he was a little harder to stop and had a decent offload.

Momo can certainly run and finish better. Plus he is a more reliable kicker.

Being one of the majority that voted for keeping Esan in the recent poll, I am disappointed in not having him next year and especially so after he played through the season with an ankle requiring surgery.

Still, if him leaving clears a little space to allow the club to get a bit more pace out wide, plus a player to meet the coach's structures, then I won't be too disappointed.

I personally think it's a bit rich of Esan to demand an upgrade from WTs after a year battling an injury and therefore being out of form. You want an upgrade, show us what you've got next year when you're back in form.

Not sure he demanded an upgrade did he? Didn't he just get an offer that we weren't prepared to match? I haven't been following that closely but that was the impression I got...

He still had a year to run on his contract so 'technically' the Cows couldn't have extended him an offer or even spoken to him without our permission. Sounds to me like he wanted to go and Madge was happy for him to go. Mutual decision.

Its all becoming a money chase for average players who know clubs are prepared to take risks with attractive contracts to lure players to their clubs - and managers will create any excuse to get players out of their current deals to get their commission.

Good luck to the kid and hope he lives up to his potential as he has bucket loads of it.

Unless we have someone coming in, looks like Mbye, Talau and Momo next year.

Hope we spend the cash on a quality forward. JWH would be awesome.

As Robinson said JWH is AGN.

Ain't Goin' Nowhere. (dream on MT)

The info i received on marsters from a cowboy rep was they are desperate for outside back help have liked him for a while. Threw decent money over a long time which we weren't prepared to match. He wouldn't give me exact info but hinted at 500k for 5 year type setup.
I think this is a mutual bust up. Money and security to good to give up. It does seem like madge likes 2 to 3 year contracts.

I think after the Cleary fiasco the club will be very hesitant to sign anyone on a 4+ year contract.

@hodgo that would be an incredibly risky contract for the cows. Someone who hasn't really established themselves in the NRL on a 5 year deal on decent money?

Esan & his management should be applauded for how this was handled.
His management approached the club about beginning discussions in relation to extending his contract prior to November 1 & the possibility of on upgrade for the year 2020. Madge/Club requested a couple weeks to look at things.
Decision was made that we wouldn't look at extending his deal till next year but gave him permission to see what was out there.
Only 2 clubs showed real interest & Cowboys offer blew everyone out of the water. When the final offer was submitted (last week) his management went back to the Tigers & both agreed it was too good an opportunity for Esan to pass up & secure his long term future. Madge & Esan are close & there's never been an issue between them, this is a coach doing what's best for his player under the right circumstances.
I personally wish Esan & his family all the best.

The dragons are well aware about Lomax being their best prospect for years and would not want to lose him,the only hope is that Lomax is unhappy being coached by Mary and wants to play under a good coach

Our moves will be November 1 onwards if we can sign players for 2021 teams will likely release players early to sign replacements or promote youth.

Of course we wish Esan Marsters the best for the future.:astonished:
What about the future of the Wests Tigers, he we go again letting another fantastic junior slip through our fingers to THRIVE at another club.:confounded:
I'm becoming more bewildered every day with this club:white_frowning_face: :white_frowning_face:

He is not one of our juniors Tigeress. So you buy 'em, you lose 'em.

Many thanks for the update - your insights are always appreciated.

It's all very noble for the coach to look after his player, but I do hope that this is a mutually beneficial arrangement: ie, that there is something in this for the club as well.
