He wouldn’t have been on more than about 300k. He signed this contract as a rookie. Doubt it’s freeing up much cash. Probably more of a case that he isn’t Madge’s type of player and they are doing him a favour by letting him take up a big offer elsewhere.

Yes it’s extremely rare that players leave the Tigers system to find success elsewhere.

I am happy with that. He would be on 400k easily. The wording of the article means we aren’t paying a dime. Matterson leaving as well frees up 350k.

Thats 750k free.

If Matulino retires, thats another 650k.

Interesting to note that Madge has left Esan out of the Kiwis test and 9s squad too.

This is really really tough and could go either way.

My initial thoughts are that he would get back to his best - but tbh even his best wasn't anything near the top centres in the game.

I can see Talau progressing to be just as good if not better than what Esan has delivered so far, and for less.

One thing is for sure, I hope this has nothing to do with fitting in the signings and re-signings we have made so far and that something bigger is to come.

He is a nothing.
