Don't worry Hastings doesn't miss out .....three forwards are trying to put the ballcarrier down in a tackle in the lead up ...Hastings is standing tell everyone to go right and left when he should have been tying up the ballcarriers hands .....get the pass away to half who then hits McQueen .....

We got some Pommie Duds everyone .....yayyyyy.....

But but Hastings is going to save us from Brooks....right?

Hastings = Cronk ,Sterling ,Langer and Mortimer in some eyes ...yet is playing as the leader in a Wigan side looking at having it worst season since the late 70's / early 80's

And Gildart is in the same side

I hope they are both tanking big time ......

They both took Wigan to the grand final last year, and Hastings took lowly Salford to the grand final the year before that. Wigan this year have been butchered by injuries, and players are out of position (including Hastings).

If they were high class NRL players ( as is being suggested by many on the Forum ) they would be carrying this side ...they aren't ...they will be lower tier NRL players ...exactly what we have already ....I did note in earlier posts that Wigan had injury issues ...Lam admitted himself the reason he didn't release Hastings this season was for that exact reason ...saw it in a post game interview .....from memory their forward pack was pretty injury free ......at that time

By that logic Tedesco is useless, because his team has been faring no better than Wigan lately.
The ONLY reason Hastings hasn't been playing NRL is he decked DCE.

This is some gold star posting. Hastings has been a star over there. Ben Barba was a star there but I think Bevan French is as well. We just got to wait and see. I think it's pretty clear they aren't as good as Tommy Turbo.

Of course they won't be as good as Tommy Turbo, and hence we won't be paying them as if they are as good as Tommy Turbo. Nonetheless Gildart will be an upgrade on Talau, and IMO Hastings will be an upgrade on Mbye, at a much better price.

He’s signing ESL players, while the Dogs are signing JAC, Burton, Dufty and TPJ. Fool seems like an appropriate word.

And in 2017-18 we signed Reynolds, Packer, Matulino, and Mbye. How did that go?

Not sure why there is a love affair with the dogs in this forum, they have more room in their salary cap because they have a roster who has won 2 games all season.

So because we have a bad experience, we should never go for big names again? Bold strategy Cotten.

Going after multiple big names at the peak of their career is not an effective way to manage your salary cap.

Need another example? Titans. 9th last year, signed big name players with reputations this year, and are currently 10th.

People just love to whinge because they don't get the Christmas toys they asked for. Time to toughen up.

After the crap we got from so called big names in the past, I'm going to wait and see how this new recruitment plan works out.

I'm fairly confident Hastings is going to be a massive upgrade on Mbye. I'm not sure about Gildart but our outside backs have been poor. At least he is another option for us.

I assume we haven't broken the bank or gone close to it in signing these guys as well.

Maybe the problem is the club, not the player. It’s easy to blame the players every time.

Our "big names" haven't actually been good players though. Packer, Reynolds, Mbye etc were never marquee signings despite the club parading them as such

If we could land a big name that's genuinely a current top 5 player in their position that's a different story.

BIG concerns when Chris McQueen overpowers you...

Gildart made McQueen look like Jason Taumololo.

I remember Gildart coming up against Taumololo in an international. Went well in that match, until he got injured (not by Taumololo).

He is / was pre injury very evasive and great on his feet...legit speed...

Defense is debatable.

The concern for us is that POST injury he has not shown much in attack...and his D is poor.

I'd be more confident if we were getting the bloke from 3 years ago who scored a great try v NZ in the game you mentioned.

But we are getting a bloke who has been injured 1.5 of the last 2 years...and lacked explosiveness since his return.

Next season is still 9 months away...hopefully he returns to his best, as he will need at his peak to handle the NRL.

Fair comment. I think given his age there's no reason he can't get back to his best, but we'll find out soon enough I guess.

This quote is my main worry:
**"It's something I'll have to deal with throughout my career now," he told Rugby League Live.**

I completely agree. Our big name signings have been duds. The thing is all those guys were stated as being good players.

I don't think Packer was that bad a player at his best. Reynolds wasn't a first grader. Mbye is barely a first grader.

If we could land a big name that's genuinely a current top 5 player in their position that's a different story.

Mbye was on massive money at the dogs when we signed him and at the time was considered a revelation at fullback. He's also probably the luckiest NRL player to earn the salary he has for so long but he was higher rated than Burton is now.

Packer was very popular in the market at the time we signed him (was starting prop for NZ).

Matulino, Mcqueen, Reynolds were good first graders but not considered "stars".

Something happens to players when they get here. The club needs to solve that.

They just get it wrong. The Dogs fans wanted Mbye gone. Reynolds was being told to go because he wasn't a first grader. Packer was a bench impact forward in a team that had great go forward.

They have to get the signing right. It's better not to sign players like this and just go for juniors and upgrade compared to getting it wrong.

Well, Ben Barba was a star here, Hastings was still only a kid when he left Australia and I don’t think French was considered a ‘star’ in England.
It’s all conjecture until Hastings and Gilbert lace up their boots for us… although the deathriders are already out reporting on every tackle they miss … as if no player ever misses a tackle (ours more than most).

Someone watched them for 10 minutes and has written them off. Better go and tell Hartigan he's a fool.

Every Tigers supporter should realize this. Big names have been our worst performers. I like the Dogs signings but wait and see what happens.

Our "big names" haven't actually been good players though. Packer, Reynolds, Mbye etc were never marquee signings despite the club parading them as such

If we could land a big name that's genuinely a current top 5 player in their position that's a different story.

And which team has recently?

Dogs got JAC, he's a top 5 winger and Broncs got Reynolds, he's a top 5 halfback

Interesting take, Reynolds debatable but Jac although he is probably the top winger is still a winger, hardly a Marquee position.

People also need to remember Gildart is coming back from a couple of serious injuries, hasn't played much over the past couple of years and needs to build confidence in his body and get match fitness up and running. Consider this him coming back via NSW Cup and getting some match fitness for next season and nothing more. It's the start of a very long preseason for him.

I'm not saying he's going to set the world on fire over here, but some of these extreme overreactions to a player just starting to play footy again are absurd. He'd be pretty cheap too i reckon.

Pommy backs (or any other backs doing well over) there do not excite me one bit.

The good Pommy finds are forwards.

Hanley, Currier, Sean Edwards, Gregory, Schofield, Offiah, Connolly, Widdop, Brian Carney, George Williams, Dave Bolton, Tommy Bishop.

Are you defining a particular era, or just a recent number of failed English backs in the NRL? Lots of successful UK-Irish backs in rugby league in Australia, just depends on who you get.

I watched about 10 minutes of the Huddersfield v Wigan game ..and his tackle attempt on McQueen when McQueen scores was pathetic ......

Mate it has to do with attitude ...9 minutes into a game and blokes aren't putting in .....Hastings is too busy worrying about other defnders when he was the solution ...tie the damn ball up .....Gildart doesn't even move off the try line in defence

No worries can't wait til these blokes come out and stink up Leichhardt and Campbelltown .....

If you don't like hearing the truth .....put me on foe ...and move on to your fairyland ...where the WT's go into every seasons as premiership favourites ......and then the press , the NRL , The refs , the rules are the problem .....

I should also add Gildart was on our Radar back when Cleary was coach, I remember a swap deal being discussed with Kevin Naquamia around the time we were playing Newcastle.

Can you please relax a bit Hap and wait and see what Madge will do with Hastings and Gildart first and foremost....these guys may surprise us and play good football...I think most are jumping the gun because of our poor results this year with heaps of young learners and the experienced guys waiting for their centrelink pension plan to evolve...

Grab a beer a slice of pizza and let things flow...it could be good for all of us...
