V’landys says if you don’t listen to you customers you will lose them. Surveys said the fans wanted one ref. Simples. He personally read 3,000 of the 18,000 respondents.

Or if you start listening to fans ...you should be sitting with them

The real question in all of this is will Cameron Smith be forced into retirement due to his inability to clear the ruck meaning continuous 6 again calls against Melbourne, or will Melbourne rise to the top again due to Cameron Smiths inability to clear the ruck meaning obscenely slow play the balls for the opposition?

The coaches hate it, means it’s a good move.

V'landys is the best thing to happen to Rugby League. Imagine the mess we'd be in if Beattie or Grant were still running the show.

Can’t say making significant rule changes based off can voted surveys in the daily telegraph is a great idea ?

We'll have to see how it goes before we really know what to make of it. Ultimately the test will be to make it a comp where it's fair and even enough that any team has a chance at winning if that club is run well.

Hopefully a good start. Definitely trying times.

Better than taking suggestions from coaches and Club CEO’s/Chairmen who try and manipulate the rules to their advantage and who have a vested interest in rules that favour them.

Well, so do the Murdoch owned Daily Telegraph. Same owner as Storm and Broncos.
But yes, you are right. Coaches are much more likely to wrangle it to their favour.

Papers have the higher motive above their football interests to sell and get money.

Fans are the worst people to ask. Instead of asking the board specifically made for purposes such as this, or talking to the referees or coaches and players he’s decided to do it all himself.

Seems like the refs have a pretty good point about him breaching their agreement, so it could not happen at all still. That’s what happens when you don’t consult anyone and just do whatever you want

He is adamant that he hasn't breached their CBA and that it only requires consultation after the decision.

This season is as good of a time as any to go back to a Sunday arvo 3pm kick-off Grand Final (even just for this season as a gauge of fan support for day GF's). Most fans would love that IMO.

Expect a speedy resolution in the stoush between the NRL and the referees’ union; a Fair Work Commission hearing has been scheduled for Friday afternoon #NRL

I think the rule changes could benefit us.

I was watching NRL Live tonight and the general agreement was that the one ref/6 again would favour teams with quick dummy halves. Coming out of their own end a team will now focus their attack down the middle third, aiming to tire the middle forward defenders, causing them to infringe due to fatigue. They mentioned Damien Cook and Souths would benefit given his speed and their style of play... I think this highlights the importance of our Harry Grant acquisition. From what I’ve seen of him he plays very up tempo. Without a proper number 9, I think we would have struggled with the changes.

Another thing in our favour is we give away the 2nd least ruck penalties of any team. Only the Dragons give away fewer. If this remains the case then alongside the dragons we’ll give away the fewest 6 agains and therefore suffer less fatigue than other teams.

Also Fox reported that referee head (I can’t remember if it was Annesley or Sutton) has indicated that penalties and sin bins would come into play for repeated ruck infringements. This would prevent a situation where a team holds down excessively when defending their own line to protect a lead in the dying minutes of a match.

The Betoota Advocate are reporting that the Storm are requesting the NRL to cut both refs.

“The Storm believe that they have a perfectly suitable on-field referee in Cameron Smith who is capable of running the show on both the hooking and whistle-blowing fronts,” explained an NRL insider this afternoon.

“Cameron has agreed in principle to take up the slack, and believes it could be more efficient to have him steer the ship without having to confer with the other on-field referees.”

Toddy might have said there's a "ring" of truth in this.

In regards to your last question asking whether the ruck speed has improved with two refs - compared the grand final from last year to the international games from last year, the play the ball speed is about a second half and a half slower with one ref compared to having two. Definitely more wrestle with the one ref

How many games are you measuring this by, and you measured this yourself? Not criticising, just curious the data.

He pushed Greenberg's punchable head out the door.....I'm more than satisfied with that. If he manages to bring in a day GF he is a God.
