Further changes to the six-again rule.

“referees now allowed to restart the tackle count immediately if markers are not square as opposed to blowing a penalty”

I'm not a fan of changes to a rules system in the middle of a season. It's quite unfair to have rules for a part of the season and not another.

That said, this is an extension of a great rule. Anything to make the game faster.

Rugby League has always done it, some of our biggest changes were mid season changes.

Sure, I agree they've always done it, I just don't think that's the best way to approach it nor should it be a reason for it to be acceptable.

But as I've said, if it makes the game faster I'm all for it.

Then we would have had another season ruined by the wrestle, now we have a better game.

Again, if it makes the game faster I agree with it.

My greater point is that they have an entire season to determine issues and then an entire off-season to address them in advance of the future season. Yet for some reason they mostly introduce new interpretations a week or two out from a season or in the middle of it. Considering how much forecasting teams do, which is certainly based upon the rules and their interpretation, it seems amateur to change them with such little notice.

Anyway, again, if it makes the game faster I'm for it.

I don't see how a rule change that affects everyone is unfair.

It's more so how some teams who targeted this area and were allowed to get away with this before this round may have secured victories because of it.

But if the rule wasn't changed they'd probably be still winning games in the same manner. So I'd say it's a very fair alteration. As a matter of fact, slowing the play the ball was arguably the single biggest area of frustration for most fans of the game.

Cool

Completely get that point, though in saying that this season is a bit different and unique in everyway.

I actually believe that the issues with inconsistencies that we are seeing in decisions comes from the way this was implemented on the fly, the refs were no given a chance to practice this and trial it through the preseason. I still like what we have implemented just don't expect to see it work consistently until next year when the refs have had time to work out the kinks we are seeing at the moment.

These 6 again calls are getting worse every week. It’s either every set there’s a six again or one team will blatantly wrestle and the ref does nothing about. They’re blowing them far more often than penalties would be given and every week there’s more and more half the time for no reason. Too inconsistent for the most part and this new change will add to that

Yeah and I love it.

Players have been getting away with ruck infringements for ages because the penalty cost was too high for the game to tolerate. Six-again penalises these infringements without slowing the game down. The players and coaches will learn soon enough.

Its still too inconsistent. Some teams are getting pinged much quicker than others. Smith is still a master at slowing the play the ball and rarely gets pinged. Some refs call held quickly which is good, others allow teams to hold a player up in a 3 man tackle and the ref allows the tackle to go on while he is on his feet. Should be back to once momentum stopped call held and if players don't drop off then 6 again.

Just on the markers not square - it would be good to see a crackdown on the attacking player who deliberately moves off the mark to play the ball in the hope of milking a penalty.
