OPEN LETTER TO FANS FROM SIMON DWYER
9/09/2011 6:12:43 PM

On the eve of tonight’s qualifying final, injured Wests Tigers injured second rower Simon Dwyer has penned an open letter to supporters.

Dwyer is waiting on surgery to his injured right arm and remains unsure whether the operation will take place in Australia or overseas.
Here is Simon’s letter.

“Whilst the medical opinions I have received are not very encouraging, I’m remaining very positive. I have undergone acupuncture and am still researching all of the doctors all over the world. If it is better for me to have surgery overseas, wherever that may be, we will go there. If not, then I will have the surgery here. Wests Tigers Club Doctor Donald Kuah has been a tremendous help in speaking to specialists who have experience with this kind of injury. All of the medical people I have seen have been very good.

“My team-mates, the coaching staff, and the management at Wests Tigers have been great. Every time I go to training, they want to know what is happening and what the best course of action is. The players have offered to do whatever they can to assist me. Plenty of the boys ring me during the week just to see how I am going. I never really knew how close they were to me until this actually happened. I didn’t know what extent they would go to help me. I feel that all the adversity the club has gone through this year has made the boys tighter as a group. Everyone wants to help each other out. Head Coach Tim Sheens has also been tremendous. He constantly rings me and offers his support. I can’t thank him enough.

“I must admit it was a bit of shock as to how many people actually cared what had happened to me. Every Wests Tigers game I have been too, plenty of fans come up and ask how I’m going. I can’t thank them enough for their support. It has been a real eye opener.

“I’ve started to practise writing with my left hand but the more I practice, the worse I get (laughing). I will just have to keep on trying. Like you all, I will be cheering the boys on very loudly. I know they can do it. I just would like to thank everyone again for their well wishes.”

Really hope Simon can get his arm / shoulder right. Sounds like is is as great on the field as he is off the field.

Champion bloke. Tragedy this happened when he had/has such a bright future. I guess it's a sign of how much these guys put their bodies on the line for our entertainment.

Too true. With the attitude he is displaying he is every chance to get back to 100% (or close to it) and hopefully even back on the field for us. :master:

That made me all teary. I really feel for him, especially everytime the boys run out onto that field :frowning:

Not sure Simon whether you believe in Jesus Christ but I do and I know there are a number of NRL Players who are Christians! I will ensure to request a healing for you not only through my own prayers but also through our Church!

Stay positive and know that life at times presents some curve balls to us all, but continue seek for truth in why you exist and what your future is not only in this life but also beyond the grave!Medical science has come along way and I hope that it can get you back on the field sooner rather than later but if there is a hiccup then know that you can tap into the supernatural!

I like a few others teared up in reading your open letter and so far you have displayed amazing talent and courage on the footy field and I am confident there are quite a few more chapters still to be written in your book of life. God Bless Ned

Too bad the all loving Jesus Christ can't prevent crap like this happening in the first place.

I wish Simon the best, and if he happens to read this, then my advice is this. I'm not a religious man, and I don't promote religion, and I am happy if that's what others want to do. My advice is more every day life advice.

It is not just the goal, it is the journey on the way…..

So, in his case the goal is to get better, get back on the paddock and play footy.

But on the way there, he will see, feel and have the love and support of family and friends every day. The help of professionals. The full support of us fans. Kindness from people that don't even know him but wish him well. He gets to learn more about his body and he may get to trudge all corners of the globe and meet new people on the way to his goal.

The journey will make him a better person and give him a richer life, and the goal will be far more enjoyable.

Good Luck Simon!

Simon, best of luck when you have your operation done.

don't become bitter or twisted if for some reason you are uable to play footy. ( this is out of any one control )

be grateful and proud of the opportunity you were given, and know you gave it your all :sign: .

I like how even though he's only a few games old, we're still attached to him (although granted he is a good prospect). I doubt he'd get the same kind of reception at say, Melbourne. It's great that everyone's backing him, makes me all warm n fuzzy inside :stuck_out_tongue:.

By the way, any updates on Daniela? Is he set to make next season?
