I recently watched the Loudest Voice on Stan about Roger Ailes' sexual misconduct. What I find disturbing outside of his vile behaviour towards women was his complete disregard for Jounalistic ethics when establishing and running FOX News in the US. The bias reporting that has been allowed to flourish around the world in the chase of ratings is a poor reflection of the society we have created.
The largest fear I have for society moving forward is that FOX News etc are only the tip of the iceberg, more people source and consume their news through Facebook and Twitter etc. These organisations have no responsibilities to the accuracies of the information their sites are spreading, and actively target information to uses based on algorithms that create and echo chamber where people are only provided with stories that confirm their already held beliefs. In a large number of situations this information is just lies that then people believe and spread themselves.
An interesting speech to watch was Sasha Baron Cohens criticism of social media and the role it plays in distorting facts and spreading fake news!

I like how Sasha bent the knee to his masters. This is the guy that for 20 years made fun and got incredibly wealthy off those subjects one dare not speak of today. Good little Sasha, just read the script they prepared for you. Hypocrisy is thy name.

It is not about censorship though, its about companies like Facebook and Twitter taking responsibility for what they are publishing. If a major newspaper published stories denying the holocaust they would be lambasted world wide as it is an out and out lie! Facebook is allowing it's platform to be used to deny the holocaust daily!

Facebook, Twitter and Alphabet (Google, YouTube) will soon have to make a decision on whether they are publishers or platforms as they are currently enjoying a little from column A and a little from column B with zero consequences. However, they can't continue to have it both ways. As they are US companies the 1st amendment applies which is why there are so many law suits currently pending. If they are publishers they are responsible for what is published and all current publishing laws apply, or they are a platform and aren't responsible for any content and all speech is allowed, however they do heavily censor users and accounts that do not fit their left leaning or right leaning ideology thus they appear to be more of a publisher then a platform.
With the exception of a direct call to violence I'm an advocate of any and all speech. The answer to bad ideas and the curent it term "hate speech" isnt censorship and expulsion, it's more speech, better ideas and pointing out facts and evidence. Whats wrong with discussing abhorent ideas to point out the obvious flaws? To simply want to ban it elevates the idea to a taboo subject and gives it more appeal to some then to simply pick it apart piece by piece.
Nothing should be censored. I'm a firm believer in the marketplace of ideas.
