Packer & Reynolds

Do we go down this path ?? Harsh but might work

Advise both of them that we will not be using them at all next year regardless of what happens and will blood young players instead. Advise them they will not get the opportunity to show case there skills at all so clubs would be unlikely to pick them up the year after unless it's min wage.. I know it's harsh but they are giving us nothing so say to there manager if you can find a club for a longer term deal we will pay a fair share of the first year..

Don't get me wrong as its not there fault we paid overs for them and they derserve the money but could be an incentive. :man-shrugging:

I get the sentiment and wish both would leave sooner rather than later but I think this would harm the club more than it would benefit it.

Also Sends the wrong message to current players and the ones we are trying to sign.

I agree I was just throwing an idea out there... You have to give Madge credit as he talks them up in the media..

How bad is Reynolds? the guy has fallen off a cliff. Up there with our worst ever signings, and just the length of the contract means we get to continue to enjoy the fruits of it.

It's obvious Reynolds and Packer went home early together to work on that midfield play tonight, was spectacular.

I actually dont think he is any worse than when we signed him. I think he has always been about this standard. Maybe had one hot year when he made SOO but has never struck me as a talented player. Has made a career out of "effort' and really putting in and that is not a criticism. Good on him for that, he has made good cash playing footy out of that. But not what we need.

MEMO TO JREY AND RUSS
JAMES TAMOU put his had up at Pamfers to be released so their young guns can be resigned because he can see what the future holds for the Pamfers and he didn't want to be the one to cause a young gun to be lost to the club Come on guys move over or better still move on.Please.

There is a difference..Tamou had clubs interested, our two basically have zero interest from clubs in the NRL

The other MASSIVE difference is Tamou was off contract.

Phil Gould says in his podcast today that there's an unwritten expectation that you hang around after a game.

He also says this almost certainly came out in a leak - which for mine is a worrying sign that something's rotten at our club.

To me its a sign that what is rotten at our club is Packer & Reynolds.

This was just a symptom of the poor culture at the club.

That is your opinion Cochise. Lets flesh it out. Please point to anything that provides evidence that the rest of the players havent bought into Madges culture and that Packer and Reynolds are not the outliers?

Read todays coaching insider for this weeks game and what Madge has to say....pretty well answers your questions...

Actually TT, the Coaching Insider provides evidence ONLY of a great culture within the playing group. What is your point? Are you agreeing with my or trying to prove my point correct?

you said JR and Packer are rotten at the club,,,it may be your personal opinion, however Madge tends to support them and their ethics wholeheartedly with the playing group

Talking them up so another club takes them off our hands

I see them being permanent 18th & 19th man next year......

Reynolds -4 wins , 6 losses including our 2 best performances of the year v Raiders and Panthers
Benji - 5 wins, 10 losses
Brooks- 6 win, 10 losses

For all the critcism our best footy has been when Reynolds has been in the halves

If I were Grub and Packer I would be certainly taking any long term deals on the table now. They will largely spend next year in reserve grade both at 32 years of age.

They are of course entitled to stay and who knows they might be both happy to since Grub has found a hobby in property development and Packer has a uni degree. They'll take their last season on good coin and move into life after football.

Under current circumstances I think the latter is what they’ll do. Time will tell.

And I'm sure that strategy is forefront in their minds. Can almost guarrantee that Madge has told them both many times over they have no future with the WT beyond 2021 and they are not in his playing plans...They both probably realise they can no longer hack it in the NRL and are not wanting to go to ESL (Packer can't 'cause of his conviction), so take the $800k on offer in 2021 for not busting a nut then move into another life post NRL....

Reynolds hasn’t played well all year. We played well against Canberra and Penrith because our defence held up. He isn’t at NRL level.

I don't read into much of what is written by Reynolds haters, the real problem with this guy is he has a lacked strong athletic appearance eg. Legs like pins, but what he lacks in physical prowess he makes up with shear enthusiasm, I believe it's both the club's trainers and Reynolds fault for not getting his body right to dominate week after week of hard Yakka right from the start of his contract. I bet you if Melbourne or the chooks had him he would be bigger, stronger, faster, hot property. If we keep him, a full hard preseason will see him produce. I'm not saying our players don't train hard because I've watched them train so why don't they look athletic like the Panthers team??? Everyone the them look the goods and will go close to take out the title.

His problem is he’s just not a good player. He doesn’t have a good passing game, kicking game or running game and he’s a poor defender. He’s just hopeless.

Reynolds hasnt had a good season of footy for at least four years. He will be 32 next year - it's not going to get any better.

his only redeeming quality is his energy he brings and also he has a tiny bit of speed and stepping game

And some have been convinced that Hastings would be a star if he came back to the NRL. The ESL is so bad, it’s offensive. It’s on par with the NBL. Maybe worse.

I know the label gets thrown around a lot, but I’d say Reynolds is just about our all time worst signing. I think you need to take into account the price tag x what they deliver on the field x expectations when signed. It’s why I don’t think you can put that label on players who aren’t on much coin. In Reynolds case, I remember there being a buzz when he signed. We’d just lost Tedesco, Moses and Woods, and everyone was still in the midst of their love affair with Cleary, so they were backing anything he did 200%. I was excited. It was a surreal signing, cos his Dogs colours were so strong. But literally the week after we signed him, he did his hammy, and didn’t play again that year to the final round where he did the hammy again scoring a try. The signing was never meant to be for us.
