Pascoe sanctioned by the NRL

I still dont like it. Compared to the sharks the Tigers conduct was a pittance. The fact that has all cone about because we offered Robbie a post career job that he didnt sign is just nonsense.

This wont cost us Jennings but doubt we could register musgrove now even if we were allowed.
We need 1-2 front rowers..

Not trying to be a smart a… mate because we’ve crossed swords in the past but below is a direct quote in full from one of your earlier posts.

“A smart club would admit fault, cop the penalty and move on.”:

Go ahead and pull one line from one post from one conversation if it you makes you feel good. But Ive never said we shouldn't go through woth the appeal.
And now that the appeal has gone though, a smart club would admit fault, cop the penalty and move on.

The only conclusion you can come to for no fine is that the NRL may think that will bankrupt the club. The cap penalty doesn’t impact on the clubs ability to pay whereas a fine does. The NRL has already stated in the past that they will not bail clubs out anymore. So maybe Toddys idea of fairness is lets not hit Cronulla because they don’t have the means to pay but Wests are fair game because they can pay.

I think they are probably taking quantum into account in assessing the penalties. I don't know the total value of the Sharks breaches but they probably didn't add up to the amount of the Farah 'contract'. I don't think they've made an assessment on intent. Clearly the Sharks intended to breach the cap whereas the WT argument is that any breach was either unintentional or mismanagement.

Have to agree - the sharks get a tap on the wrist for systemic rorting to gain an advantage over its rivals and we get hit harder for failing to notify something that didn't happen and was to no advantage at all. I suppose this is why Toddy says he doesn't believe in consistency.

Why would you think it would make me feel good to call out hypocrisy. It wasn't just one quote, it was one of a few. Can't remember one quote where you supported an appeal. But, for once, I probably agree with you. If the penalties are reduced as rumoured, it's probably not worth their while to take it into the courts.

So if you deliberately cheat but then admit it, you get the same fine as if you are accused of cheating on technicality and don't realise there's anything to admit.

Righto

Seems all we need to do is cheat for a few years, win a comp, then admit the cheating and cop a few penalties. They seem loathe to take back or rescind premierships anymore.

Nah, just be happy with the original fines and move on… I mean who wouldn't want to see their club get totally dicked by the NRL for something they gained no advantage for?

It's a relief compared to the rumours that have led up to the announcement. Still ridiculous though - they were completely technical in their decision and I don't know if that quite suited this situation. Other situations they'll use more discretion.. Terrible judges.

Ok but I'm still outraged..we made a bo bo on a technicality so any fine or punishment is ridiculous..

See you in court..

The grey area is the possible deliberate deception in our case. The club or Pascoe could challenge to clear the record, but the NRL has painted us in that way with their subtle digs. This is probably why the penalty is relatively more severe than the gummies.

Personally I'm happy for Justin to come back in June, officially blast the NRL process and enjoy the footy.

Yeah the initial fines should not have been comparable considering what the Sharks are alleged to have done vs us, and then the 66% discount for self-reporting is just absurd. Self-reporting is just not something that needs to be that strongly encouraged because the only time it's going to happen is when a new administrator comes in and doesn't care about hanging the old administration out to dry i.e. in situations where the horse has well and truly bolted. These guys have no idea…

All good, I'll sit here and cop the pineapple leafy end first. Why bother appealing or putting up a fight, right?

Especially when the NRL are the true arbiters of fair and consistent judgement.

Yep it needs to be taken further..

As Nelson said, is there any real benefit for that? It'll drag out to the point where Pascoe's ban will likely end before the case is cleared, we'll be halfway through the season.

You'd only be challenging Pascoe's penalty and the salary cap penalty? A lot of effort to lessen our cap penalty for 2020.

OK, facetiousness aside now, the general consensus is that the NRL has met us halfway and judging by the reactions most of us feel that the reduced penalties are fair. Why wouldn't you put on a front to force the NRL to reduce the penalties?

But we did appeal and got concessions. If we didn't appeal we would not have received any concessions at all. I think that the NRL deserve to have Wests Tigers take this to court. Show the NRL up for what they truly are.
