Pascoe sanctioned by the NRL

Didn't WT come out and say WT are behind the coach 100%? That means either we fight it if NRL are making a mountain out of a mole hill (which I still think they are- this happened years ago and was in the pbulic spotlight then, why bring it up now, dodgy as anything).

Or if we did screw it up, and do what they are accusing us of, all we have to do is to admit it, say it was an honest unintended mistake, ask for clemency, cop whatever we get, then come back hard.

Our squad has been screwed by dodgy coaching decisions and back-ended deals and paying players at other clubs for years, one more year with a restrained squad won't kill us, integrity in the club is what matters here.

What is it wasn't an honest unintended mistake?

So you're asking what if Pascoe deliberately tried to circumvent the cap and was trying to cheat? Wouldn't there be a lot better ways to do it? Anyway, if he was trying to cheat, cop the punishment, front the Board and WT public with hat in hand proclaiming their guilt and see if he still has a job. I think he probably would.

There is a reason the NRL has rules about post career employment and it is because it is an attractive way to circumvent the cap. If the situation is as speculated, then I don't really see any better ways than what has been accused?

Have you noticed no other clubs have taken the NRL to court over sanctions due to the cap?

Good point.

Those clubs you are referring to were red hot guilty, very much unlike Wests Tigers position. Personally I am very much looking forward to our club sticking up for what they believe in. By the way, clubs like Roosters and Broncos have been "somehow fortunate" to never have been through a sideshow such as that delivered by Greenburg on Wests tigers.

Of course. Everyone is guilty except us.

You need to know the facts before you condemn.

Take a.visit back to what he took on - that was a mess. At this point I am prepared to back him over anything the NRL stands for even if he was in the wrong.

Yes agreed …... I like him too and sorry this happened.
Probably well intentioned etc. etc. but in the end the NRL Board would not have agreed to the sanctions proposal put in front of them without a very good reason. And from what I hear and read they are valid accusations that the Club and particularly Pascoe need to defend.
Any public court action is just ridiculous until we get past the appeals process which is in place and which all Clubs (in similar situation) to date have adhered to.
So anyway, that’s my 10 cents worth on the subject

Spot on

Lets not kid ourselves that the NRL makes it very difficult for an individual to appeal anything when they are de -registered purely by the sanctions they place on that person in regard to communication.

Has he actually been told he cannot communicate with the club?

So what the NRL provided aren’t facts?

Didn't you know? The NRL has a vendetta against the Tigers and Greenburg has risked his career when he has no proof.

A bit sad in this day and age that the general consensus is that challenging the NRL is pointless. Says alot in itself about what is wrong about the game.

Pointless and Lots cheaper too. Particularly if someone failed to adhere to the Cap rules and telling blowies to the Cap auditors.
Wish you guys would get over it ….. we need to take our medicine here.
Stop feeling sorry for Pascoe .... he got us into this mess now he needs to get himself and the Club out of this ...... if he can.

Mate we are in a better position than we have ever been under Pascoe's leadership.

Absolutely - Take on the NRL.

The punishment is far to strong. The NRL are beating a snake with an RSJ.

Agreed. There are a few 'death riders' on this issue on the forum. People telling us to cop the punishment and move on. Just about every other poster agrees there is a level of misbehaviour in this but just want the punishment to fit the crime. Unless there is more to this issue than any of us know about I believe there's a fair chance the level of fine and Pascoe's deregistration will be reduced when we present our case. Why wouldn't we fight it?

I'm not death riding at all, I want us to present our case to the NRL and hopefully get a reduction in the penalty. In saying that I have been extremely critical of the level of punishment the NRL has given clubs in the past, I'm not hypercritical enough now that the NRL has said they are beefing up the consequences to complain just because it is my team getting hit.

The Tigers have breached the cap rules in a way that suggests it was an intentional attempt to rort the cap and the NRL has asked the club to show why they shouldn't be punished. If they can show they haven't broken the rules or it was unintentional them the consequences will be reduced or even removed. From what the NRL has said and what has been speculated I would think that is unlikely.

Mate, the death riding comment wasn't aimed at you. While your comments have been strong they're balanced. I'm still open to the possibility there wasn't a deliberate attempt to rort the cap and, if that's true, would expect a reduction in the penalty. But, if the facts back the NRL, the penalty will more than likely stand as is. My comments were more directed towards those posters suggesting we should just bend over and cop it.

No problem mate, I hope it wasn't intentional too but it's hard when unless there is no contract, which goes against what the NRL has said, then the club has broken the rules. That may be intentionally or it may be some kind of bad mistake but either way they have broken them and I would want to see other clubs hit hard in this situation.

Problem for me is that I don't trust Greenburg and the NRL at all. Whatever Pascoe may or may not have intentionally or inadvertently done, Greenburg has done worse whilst with the Dogs, and is doing worse now with the NRL.

The whole NRL is run by money, Fox, Politis, they are all corrupt and dirty as. So they come down 'hard' on salary cap cheating by finding something one of the little teams did, openly, four years ago, whilst holding 'testimonial games' with hundreds of thousands of dollars going to players salary-cap free??

It's utter rubbish. I'm not saying we definitely did nothing wrong, but the whole thing makes me sick.

I’m with you TT. I don’t know who’s in whose pocket, who the powerbrokers are or what the agenda is but it just seems like there is amazing inequity and a lot of turning a blind eye. To quote a great movie: “the whole thing stinks like yesterday’s diapers!!”

Taylor gets blamed for everything bar being on the grassy knowel on this forum. What’s one more thing to add to the list against the forums greatest scapegoat.

While not one person can be held responsible for all that is wrong or goes wrong with an organisation, JTs contribution is one our club could have well done without.

And how many players and officials could we add to that list

You need to look at the whole picture …...what about the potential damage Grant Mayer caused , Ivan Cleary caused ,.......................

Sheens who i think was great early on and the best coach we have had and Humpty with their perchant for back ended contracts screwed the pooch which started the slide…

It has been remarkable the way we have recovered

At least Sheens got us in the finals , every other WT's coach is a virgin in that aspect

I think factually we did the wrong thing. This though is a fair point. Other clubs play games like this all the time and get away with it. I just hope other clubs get caught out as well.

I don't care what other clubs have supposedly done, we broke the rules and got caught. The everybody else is doing it excuse is childish, especially when there is no proof of that. Though I donn't agree with the testimonial games the clubs involved sought and obtained permission for those games, we didn't do that and that is why we are in trouble.

The best way to approach it in my opinion is to accept it, try and get the least possible penalty possible and most importantly learn from it.

The facts though seem pretty clear cut to me. We tried to hide a payout. That is bad. It wasn't a huge rort but it's a clear cut case of rorting.

I do think other clubs though are clearly doing this. Look at Thurston being offered an on-going role at the club.

Is there any evidence that Thurston’s role isn’t above board?

If the club feels Pascoe and they have been unfairly treated and they can demonstrate why, then they must appeal the penalty.

The NRL is not immune to making incorrect decisions and to allow them to do so without question would be letting the club Pascoe and the fans down.
If they dont have a case - we already know what the outcome is.

what will be interesting will be the punishment handed to Cronulla for their salary cap cheating. By the time the NRL conclude the investigation ( if they ever do ) the Wests Tigers fiasco and appeal will have been dealt with. The NRL have set a precedent and if Cronulla aren't virtually wiped out with cap penalties and loss of points considering the severity of cheating compared to WT then it will show how biased the NRL are.

They've said they'll appeal the decision. What comes of it who knows. I'll guess a reduction in cap penalty at best. Not sure on pascoe though.
