Phil Gould is becoming a player agent.

be interesting to see if he pushes people towards panthers or roosters

I think Cleary made it quite clear, he wasn’t going back unless they got rid of Gould.
Don’t know about chooks? Think his relationship with sticky copped a beating at times. Coaches get that job partly from a desire for control.
I think he can be trusted to do what’s best for those who pay him.
Let’s see.?

No one person should have that much power in the game. If he controls the best in the game - coaches players - he effectively will be making everyone jump hoops. No player manager currently has the profile Gould has - recipe for disaster imo.

Interesting move.

The bloke has an ego as big as his head but I reckon he has a genuine love for footy and will want to do what's best for players.

Even if he scoops up a quarter of NRL contracts, that's a pretty sweet business to send him into retirement.

A quick calculation tells me it’s not a huge market at say $20m for top 30 nrl players with around 100 registered agents. I suppose this is why he will broaden his catchment area?

Not huge, but enough to run a relatively sustainable and stress free business.

Hed be a good one imo.

Most probably would he knows how things work in and out of club land, my concern would be he would screw us as club over royally and have his favoured clubs in his pocket ie Penrith Roosters and a few others no doubt.

Man Rugby league really is going to the wall
"Phil Gould" or "Fools Gold"
If he works fairly for all players I think he would do a good job
But who does his interest lay with
Helping players getting the most money they can or finding a club that best suits their needs

Or helping clubs in need of great players so they can become stronger clubs

It's very hard if not impossible to have it both ways
Not sure its a good idea with the ties to clubs that Goulds has

I think agents should be completely impartial

It's like a Judge ruling on a case of a friend or relative
It could be seen as bias

I think you have just discovered his motivation for taking this on.

Papa, not sure how much stress is involved, I imagine he’s talking about being a life coach for his clients, which sounds like a full time job with odd hours. Imagine if Josh Reynolds was his client during the last 3 years?

Was a bit of a rumour around a few years back where certain clubs made a pact not to recruit from each other. Instead they picked off the good players from clubs like our.

Not sure if true or not but Gould was heavily involved in that rumour. All in all id find the guy hard to trust.Seems he has agendas and if not agendas very good mates at clubs that are not ours.

This bloke is and always has been a massive TOOL.

Can you imagine how he is going to carry on when one of the players in his 'stable' might be dudded by the NRL. It will be a complete ****ening.

This guy has done more damage to the game than good. And it made me sick last year when Greenburg said something about meeting some trusted advisors....and Gould was one of them. FFS!

The CEO of the NRL is an extremely difficult bloke to trust, let alone some of the numerous other shady characters in powerful positions.
The game is going down the toilet due to incompetent fools, adding 1 more to the mix won't make much of a difference IMO.
Get rid of Greenberg first and foremost, followed by dodgy player agents second and we might have a slight hope of saving the game.

I dislike Gus, i think hes arrogant, rude, and agenda-driven. Hed make a perfect agent, if I was a player wanting a good deal (at the Roosters) Id go to him. Will be curious to see how he plays the teams.
