Pizza and beer on the menu for Tigers

A gluten free diet makes you feel like crap, honestly i would be surprised if the players actually stuck to it.

All the food is rubbish.

No Milky. Cutting out or even reducing wheat-grain from our diet, is a good thing. Do some research on it….

No it isn't, it's a completely unnecessary thing to do for 99% of the population. Wheat-based products have a whole lot of beneficial vitamins and minerals in them that their gluten-free equivalents tend not to have. Cutting them out is generally not a good idea unless you actually need to, and even then you have to be careful about doing it in order to maintain a balanced diet.

Nutritionists have been consistently saying over a long period of time that a balanced diet is best. The "health" industry, with the aim of making money, likes to periodically demonise certain products (fat, gluten, anything processed), and then sell overpriced "healthy" options to consumers. Don't fall too easily for it…

People are seriously going way overboard with this, JT for one isn't with the players 24/7 so players take control of there food intake when there in there own environment.
And 2 he can't force players to avoid Gluten free products.

He can advise them but the players make there own decisions in regards with food, unless it's in there Contracts that they can't have a beer or pizza? Well then this is a stupid discussion if you ask me.

Are they professional footballers or not?

Do they need to have everything written down? - maybe a note to go to the shops.

Beer and pizza is the way to go - you see so many professional athletes practicing this before and after their events. The Olympics is rife with it!

What does he know about modern coaching and fitness? - did he ask the S & C people before he implemented this scenario. I see it more as slap in the face for them rather than JT.

If this is O'Neil's type of football management - to come in and undermine the coach and the S & C team, then I wish he had stayed in the NRL management area with all the other losers.

Gluten free is typically a scam. It is only useful for a very small percentage of the population that have coeliac disease.

Wheat is a whole grain that is something that we should be eating more of.

In today's world though lots of people think that need gluten free when they don't.

I love how suddenly everyone on here has become nutritionists. The assumption being made is that they're being told to have pizza & beers every night, but the majority of this talk is completely missing the point.

As is stated specifically in the article, this is about treating men like men. Pizza & beer isn't a 'reward' that should only be there if they win, like some people are suggesting - that is treating men like kids. It's no secret that Taylor completely lost the respect of the playing group last year, so if having someone in there who makes decisions that bring some good morale to a young playing group, then that is surely a good thing.

As for 'undermining' Taylor - O'Neill is his boss. Buckets isn't there to coach the team, and he won't, but there's no doubt he was appointed to lift morale and reconnect with the players. This does that - so really he's just doing his job.

If it is this way GET ANOTHER COACH very tired of the lift morale and reconnect GET ANOTHER COACH FOR GOD SAKE!!!this club is a joke.

According to the article the diet hasn't been canned, it's been relaxed when the team has a long turn around. I can't believe is even a news story.
I'm liking Buckets getting former players involved.

I remember watching behind the scenes footage a while of North Melbourne in the AFL eating pizza in recovery sessions. Forget the reason why, but it had to do with their recovery. They didn't eat it cos they wanted to binge.

Nothing news item. Teams are constantly refining their approach to things like diet management.

Interesting how all the players were talking up the diet changes last year.

^Some carb loading thing, you often see them have plates of salad rolls sitting there as well.

If only WT had thought with an eye to the future when Sheensy was remodelling the gym…...we should of thrown a pizza oven in next to the rowing machine god damn it.

I own a pizza shop and one thing I can say is that gluten free customers are definately more annoying…..not sure it's correlated to their gluten intake or not

Great news boys chins up more beer and pizzas

Keep losing games and these blokes will have more chins than Hobbo and Happy combined

But as long as the payers are happy and content who cares , hey Buckets ??

Gluten free's a stupid fad. Unless you have a wheat allergy or you actually have celiac's disease then it serves no real purpose. You do have to keep an eye on your carbohydrate intake, and I personally don't eat a lot of bread for that reason but I'm also on a diet with no refined sugar. Blokes who are training as hard as professional footballers should be able to burn a few slices of pizza. So yes keeping the GI down in your carbs is good, and that often means cutting wheat, but Gluten free is a bollocks fad unless you have very specific dietry needs.

Nelson I'm not saying stop eating wheat and replace it with glutten free products.
I agree that gluten free products are high on carbohydrates and have zero nutrients. Any few nutrients they do contain have been added. (Fortified)
Modern wheat is not the same, as the wheat our grandparents and ancestors ate.
It's been genetically modified, ( dwarfed) so it's easier to harvest, more resistant to viruses, contains less nutrients and contain more gluten.
The phytates in the wheat are indigestible, making the trace vitamins present unusable.
If we reduce or cut out wheat, grains and sugar, we would definitely be much more healthier.
But who wants to do that right? They taste so yummy.
