Very different things. Two hung juries meaning they couldn't come to a unanimous decision. He has not been found not guilty.

Yeah I get that, but still unless a court has found somebody guilty, then that person is innocent, i.e. not guilty.
(which is not to say he's not a grub)

Not guilty does not mean he is innocent at all. He was not found guilty. There is no “innocence “ in law.

We have a presumption of innocence until proven guilty, and he wasn't proven guilty.

But he's still a scum bag

but can he still play footy.....

Two hung juries.
Pretty rare to have a third crack.
He was lucky it wasn't just he said she said and there were two he saids.

He still has to live with never being found not guilty.

Not being found guilty is the same as being found not guilty. He is an innocent man in the eyes of the law.
And in terms of public opinion anyone who thinks he is guilty likely would have felt the same regardless of whether the jury was hung.

I wasn't really commenting on the legalities, it was a personal comment.
If it was me and I truly was innocent the notion of never being found not guilty of rape of all things, would be very hard to live with.
Of course if you're guilty you'd cop the non conviction no matter how it comes.
Only De Belin and the girl know.

I already know how this will play out. He will be intensely booed to start with. Over time, people will forget that he was never found "not guilty". The narrative will be spun so people feel he was never convicted by the judicial system, and that he should be allowed to move on with his life.

My only hope is that there are now more women in our game, amongst broadcasters, clubs and other areas. I hope they put pressure on their dumb-male-jock peers to not just let this slide and pretend it never happened.

Edit: Never mind. Turns out people are already misinformed and bigoted. Here are some :hankey: ? comments I read on the Fox League Facebook page. Don't read on if you still have your innocence and have any faith in humanity. I can't believe people attach their name and face to these comments.

Are you for real mate? The guy was innocent the entire time

So now we await the name of the “woman” that instigated this frivolous investigation. I hope he absolutely ‘hammers’ her and takes everything she has through defamation proceedings.

So 2 years sidelined and he is now free to play!! He can win his own court case just for that wasted his time being sidelined ....Welcome back Jack just what the dragons needed!! ?

Thank goodness sanity has prevailed, the poor bloke has lost the best years of his career!

I knew all along he didn't do it now his career is cut short by the NRL & THE Australian Justice System. Pretty sad what he & his family went through

The girl should be sued for defamation and damages done. For lagging his career by 3 years and all legal costs.

Thank the lord. This happens so much with females now in society where they regret there actions the next morning, then claim rape against innocent young men.
>
>Own up to your actions!!!
>
I’m sure he will be sueing for damages and legal expenses well done for fighting it mate!!!!

For the record, here are the facts.
- Jack de Belin had an affair while his partner was 8 months pregnant.
- The women whom he had the affair with accused him of rape.
- The case went to court twice, with the jury being hung both times. This means a unanimous verdict could not be reached. It means he is neither guilty or not guilty. He is afforded the presumption of innocence in the court of law only. What society makes of the matter is a different story.
- The Director of Public Prosecutions decided not to pursue a third trial. The result is the charges were dropped.

Im not sticking up for De Belin, however, even though he had an "affair" with the woman while his partner is 8 months pregnant, doesnt that smell of sour grapes on the accusers behalf....if she had an affair with him the traffic goes both ways...I cant judge.I dont know the complete truth, however his behaviour is pretty low for a high profile person in the spotlight 24/7 and absolutely isnt the decent human way of behaving...especially when kids look up to NRL players as heros....

They mentioned in MMM he could play tomorrow... 🤔🤔🤔

I find that hard to believe I don't think he's even been allowed to train with the team is that correct?

It is easy to forget De Belin's partner who from all accounts is an exceptional young woman. She is definitely too good for De Belin now facing her own trauma of dealing with the betrayal by her partner.

I hope people don't start accusing the alleged victim in all this. The Law may have said otherwise, but she may have felt there was an assault.

Also, a job of a RL player is to promote the game in different sections as well. I wonder how parents will feel when JDB makes an appearance in their kids' school, his face goes up in NRL promotions and Ch9 televises a Dragons game on FTA during Women's Round.

Do we get to know how many of the 12 jurors found him guilty/non-guilty? Hung jury is 10/12 found him guilty, is that right? Hard to believe I did legal studies in Year 10 :flushed:

Not guilty does not mean he is innocent at all. He was not found guilty. There is no “innocence “ in law.

We have a presumption of innocence until proven guilty, and he wasn't proven guilty.

You can presume all you like, but being "innocent" and "not guilty" are not the same thing.

In fact, two juries could not reach a determination that he was "not guilty". Hardly a conclusive outcome I would think. And, yes, the court of public opinion will have their say. Hopefully, respectfully.

In order of my empathy, I feel for the "alleged" victim, then Callan Sinclair, and a long way back to De Belin.

I get what you’re saying but to use your words....two juries could not reach a determination that he was “guilty” either.....?‍♂️
