We should be looking at Faitala-Mariner and Josh Jackson. Would Mariner have been at the Warriors in Cleary's tenure? I like his size and off loading ability in traffic. Would be outstanding off the interchange.

Graham hasn't done anything since the Bulldogs played in the GF a few years back. He's been bog average since then. The only forward worth looking at would be Klemmer, though he'd be the last player they would want to let go.
And 800k for Mbye? Is that some kind of joke? Worth about 200k, imo.

They're a rabble. They're going terrible this year and they look like signing two guys for next year who will just replace equivalent standard players plus potentially they'll lose other first graders. They're already looking dodgy for 2018 but if Foran gets injured or whatever and can't play they look pretty weak in the halves.

This is all getting to ridiculous the NRL need to show some b**** and tell clubs from this day on no back ended contracts will be registered if you sign a player on $3 million 4 year deal its 750 K a year not 500 × 500 x 800× 1.200 this would control the spending of clubs and avert what has happened in the past and still happening today.

Back-ended contracts are only an issue because the NRL sets the salary cap a year before the season (actually it's less than a year!). If the NRL could set the cap 3-5 years in advance, then back ended contracts can be measured against the teams net value for future years. It's pretty poor to expect a club to manage a roster 3-6 years in advance without telling them what the cap is.

I'd watch Faitala-Mariner and Josh Jackson closely. Both seem to perform well in a pretty average team. I can imagine Faitala-Mariner causing carnage off the interchange with his second phase play offset by the workrate of Eisenhuth and Twal.

Media has reporting that the clubs were told by the NRL to budget on a $9.2 million salary cap (I think?)
Meaning if clubs have overspent on the expectation that the cap would be higher.. its their own fault, I would suggest..

It was a big plus the Big Three delayed signing until the new cap was announced so did not over commit.

We've been smart for once and locked in a team that is neither overpaid, nor bargain basement. The 2018 team should be pushing for the top 8, but if we can pick up a few more high quality players in the supposed fire sale, then we'll push top 6.
I know it looks like we are light on forwards next year, but we've been pretty competitive in the last 3-4 weeks due to our defence with the current group of players. Next year should be an upgrade on overall performance - i.e. a more balanced squad across the park.
If anything, I think our Achilles heel will be the Brooks/Reynolds combo unless Brooks finds a kicking game in the next 6 months of course…
