Player signings around the Grounds

Let's take the WTs glasses off for a moment,Ben Hunt is a very good half back, his position is sought after by some clubs because half backs are scarce at the moment..is he worth that much ? probably not,but the Dragoons seem to think so..if Hunt was to come to our club on the same money as Brooks is on at the moment, then I would take him without batting an eyelid…as for Moses,he is improving all the time and with another season where he shines as a playmaker then maybe he can command big money, but he has to be consistent and confident in his game all year, which I personally think he will be...Moses will leave Brooks in his wake if Luke doesn't start performing like an NRL halfback should..and that means leading the team and controlling the play for 80 mins, not go missing at times..he has had time now to adjust to the NRL game, its up to him to grab it by the throat..

I'm not bagging Hunt, but I would much prefer Moses.

Of course, Saints are looking for an organising half to give Widdop some room.

Ben Hunt signed with St George for a reported just under a million a season for 6 years.

Will Uncle Wayne send him to the Jets seeing he has the perfect replacement in Benji ?? :roll

Oh wait Benji's not a 7 is he ….or a 6 .....

Not saying Hunt is worth that sum or not, but he does have finals experience and is a decent footballer at a time where imo guenuine halfs are scarce.

I prefer Moses given what he should last year, but that's all he has so far. His value on paper would have to be bellow Hunts and clubs would only be signing Moses on his potential. Still clubs will be throwing cash at him.

Probably fair to say most judges believe Mitchell has a higher ceiling and will achieve it.

I agree, the same was said about brooks and he hasn't hit his ceiling. I hope we can secure Moses and I'm happy if he gets overs based on his form last season. Moses appears to be more of a confident person when compared to brooks. But mine is an assumption baised on what I've read.

six years is one hell of a punt, but desperate clubs have to make desperate calls to attract quality. Also really what is a contract these days, a few years down the track and they discover a better and cheaper option they just shop him around to another desperate club and pick up half the tab.

I hope he goes well for the Dragons, brave move to leave QLD and head south, but I get the feeling there was no love lost between Hunt and Uncle wayne

Thank God for the Dragons, they make our club look like it is run by geniuses in comparison. Over a mill a year for Ben bloody Hunt, talk about being hit in the arse by a rainbow. The "Oust Doust" banners will be brought out of storage and dusted off by about round 8 2018 IMO.

Well there will be 2 million dollar players in a couple years time so 1 mill isn't the worst deal

It's probably a little long though

Who do you think will be the first 2 million dollar player?

I think all of the following will come close to 2 mil sometime in their career:

Moylan, Tedesco, Moses, Shaun Johnson, Josh Hodgson, Jarryd Hayne, Anthony Milford, Jonathan Thurston, Cooper Cronk.

Hayne, Thurston and Cronk aren't likely to get contracts any bigger than what they're currently on given their ages (unless Hayne blows up this season and talks his way out of his Titans deal for an even bigger one elsewhere). Hodgson I don't see - a biggest contract in the game type outcome for a guy who isn't on the field 25% of the time is unlikely.

The others I guess I could see, but none of them yet have that absolute superstar, Origin game winner track record. Moylan needs to impose himself more, Tedesco needs to stay fit, Moses needs to prove a lot, Johnson needs to stay fit and be more consistent, Milford needs to be more consistent.

If I had to make a total guess I reckon start with the Panthers: one of Moylan, Cartwright or Cleary.

I think clubs will wait for the 2018 salary cap to be announced before any large sums of money are offered to players.

Obviously dragons are desperate for a quality halfback, and especially if Broncs are looking for Ash Taylor to come back

Don't look at it as salary look at it as percent of cap say Moses is on 650K of 7 million cap this year thats about 9.28 percent if my math is right on a 10 million cap that's 928K and if it's going to be a top 30 players on 10 million cap it's average wage is 333K

Say King Teddy 1 million Moses 928K that's only leaves just under 81 percent for 28 players that's an average of about 288K per player it's not going to be easy

Well summed up Regan.

It will be difficult but you never know with the NRL. :crazy

Let's just hope the Tigers can field the best possible 17 :sign:

Interesting Player who never seems to let anyone down… A good handy replacement for Hoffman!

I am waiting to see if either of Tohus Harris or The Proctortologist end up becoming the new Adam Blair at these clubs.

Will be interesting to see how the Warriors play this year under Kearney, but Proctor wont change much under Henry. He is another coach who wants his boys to do their 2-3 individual jobs each week very much like Bellamy.

When you compare Blair's form at WT to that before and after, it's pretty clear WT was the main issue rather than Blair himself.
