Player signings around the Grounds

According to Ali's Latest Rumours lol

MASSIVE BULLDOGS NEWS!!
Sunday Morning Herald is reporting that 3 Bulldogs players Josh Reynolds, Sam Kasiano and Greg Eastwood have been given permission to negotiate with other rival clubs.

If this is true. I'd go hard for Kasiono I've always believed for the past 3-4 years we've lacked a Kasiano, a big boy who runs hard crates momentum for our halves to counter on. Plus he's got a good pair of hands on him and can play a first hand receiver role like ET. As for Reynolds and Eastwlod….. Pass

Kasiano would be an upgrade at halfback.

I'd take Reynolds. He's a grub, but sometimes it's good having a grub on your side.

Now that tripping is a fine only offence he'll be an absolute weapon in defence…If effort is what people want he gives about as much as Thurston (albeit with about 10% the talent).

I'd take Kasiano too but there will be a few clubs after him.

Why am I even talking about this on the basis of an Ali rumour...?

Funny isn't it last year Brooks was 21 and at the end of the year he had played 66 FG games. At the same age Josh Reynolds hadn't even made his FG debut. In fact he hadn't played a FG game in the halves until he was 23\. Brooks won't be 23 until next year. Despite all that last year Reynolds made 12 more errors then Brooks, gave away 4 more penalties, had less try assists and half as many line break assists and all that behind prob the best pack in the game and if we signed him next year he would be 29 a few weeks into the season - Now Brooks may not be perfect but he is still much better then Josh Reynolds every day of the week

All good points and I don't like Reynolds.
However, there is an intangible, immeasurable quality called "will to win". Reynolds has this, Brooks doesn't.

Money being equal, I'd take Brooks as a player, but I hardly think stats tell the whole story.

Not me. I'd take Reynolds.

Then again, neither of them are what we really need, i.e. a first grade halfback.

x2

The problem with Brooks is the rocks/diamonds thing, he does do good stuff but it's often on the back of the dominant team. He doesn't appear able to control or turn a tight match and he's not our go-to guy in clutch situations.

So people see the gap between really good and really quite bad on a regular basis. Everyone was quite pleased w Brooks last week.

So if we do let him go or drop him, I think the replacement is ready-made already - JLJ. He's cheap, he is a big enough frame in defence, he kicks quite well and he's got an all-around solid game. Not great, but decent and I think he knows it, I think he knows he's the clear next option after Brooks.

Then there's young Mapesone (what has happened to him, he's not named in ISP this week), I'd like to see a guy like that get a chance as well.

Reynolds does have great determination and will to win, but in all honesty, I reckon he is more detrimental to his team than he is an asset and we certainly don't need another bloke doing stupid things on the field costing his team field position and giving away penalties. Reynolds has too many brain explosions for my liking, he just can't help himself.

All this supposed need for flair, ad lib bs and mercurial playmaker halves is not working for us because Brooks & Moses just do not work well together. It's one or the other imo, and at this stage Moses has performed better and more consistently than Brooks has. Moses needs a stable halves partner to compliment his game. Cronulla won the comp last year with Chad Townsend at halfback for crying out loud! Has anyone ever heard Chad Townsend being touted as the 'next big thing' the way they talk about Brooks? No, Townsend just did his job as a good halfback should and was the perfect foil for their playmaking five eighth and skillfull fullback. Cronulla also have a great forward pack that helped make it all happen and this is where we lack most.

Fwiw, my opinion is let Brooks go, put Littlejohn with Moses in the halves and spend the money saved from Brooks' contract towards buying a decent marquee second rower and a defensively strong centre because it ain't working the way it is now and we will never be a contender until these glaring weaknesses in the team are rectified.

We've waited long enough for the potential of players in key positions to be realised, to the detriment of other positions in the team and to the team as a whole. Perhaps it's time for Wests Tigers (and us fans) to face the fact that some of these guys are just never going to become the 'great' players we all thought and hoped they would be and just make the necessary changes so we can finally move forward.

Jack Bird wants to play 5/8 or fullback. Would he be wanting more than Brooks?

Not sure if he wants more than Brooks, but one thing is for certain he will got offered more and by more clubs
